The amount of toxicity that many readers have is disgusting. Authors should NOT be forced to deal with it. A way to ban someone from commenting is a necessity. It's insane that this isn't already implemented.

What’s insane is the fact that authors can already delete comments and reviews. Either learn to take criticism or don’t post shit for others to judge.

As a reader, I’m sick and tired of picking up highly rated books only to find out that they were written by an illiterate 8 year old. And now such “authors” are clamoring for a right to outright ban readers that dare to criticize their “books”? Fuck that lol

Sythcake Some scumbags take advantage of this and delete every criticism that is remotely negative. Others plagiarize from others and delete every comment calling them out.

SwayStar If many readers are agreeing with the negativity, then maybe the problem lies with your work and not the readers.

SythCake I feel like @SwayStar has a point through. Yes taking criticism is an important part of being a published writer (I can agree with that completely).

However, I think what SwayStar is trying to say here is more about readers trolling their book than actually giving proper criticism. Saying a book is complete trash and that the author shouldn't be writing is trolling and I think the author should be allowed to delete a comment like that.

All the reader is doing is giving their opinion and hating on the author who has worked hard to create that book. Books don't just magical get written in a day. It takes a lot of effect from the author to create it and to have someone troll on them (especially as a new writer) can really hurt their motivation to continue writing.

However if the reader was to say why the book was trash to them (eg. it had a boring plot, characters were copy/paste etc.), then yes your point is valid. Authors should keep that comment up and instead use that comment as a way to improve their story.

I feel this whole thing is a delicate balance in which readers have to understand the difference between trolling and giving criticism and authors have to learn how to take that criticism to improve themselves. Because as an author you may think that your book is great when in actually fact it might not be the best.

Banning them might be too harsh. A way to implement a credit score system that deletes the reader's past comments and reviews once their credit score has fallen from 100% to 80%.

To get it done, at least 20 authors and other readers can dislike or report the comment.

It's useless to discuss any of this. Any additions regarding this topic are open to be exploitation, which makes it infinitely more difficult to implement in any way, shape, or form.

I don't think Webnovel has the manpower to do so without reducing it's efficiency and standard in other areas.
