The problem (at least for me) is not that they stopped free chapters for premium novels, as it was blatant that they came to the international market because there saw that there was money to make here and publishing is a business.
The problem is that it is only the last of a long string of unanounced policy change, each more and more inconvenient to the casual reader, who what they will do next. That's not the behavior of a company that want to create a respected brand in a new market, building trust in its new consumer base.
One of their big argument when they started this website was that they are professionals and will bring better standards. But their "standards" seems to be acting like those greedy and overbearing "young masters" that you can find in nearly all of their novels, and there only so much slaps in the face this reader will accept, so goodbye I no longer have any trust in Quidan and their webnovel.com website.

    Was wondering why novels were not updating. Seems i need to do a mass culling of premium books out my library. Refuse to pay more than a normal book would cost just for a few chapters.

      Won't this removal of advanced chapters just ruin everyone's argument that the cost of patreon is more expensive when looking at advanced chapters? We don't get any more advanced chapters meaning that patreon has officially become cheaper. Because now we have to pay for every single chapter.

      The entire Harry Potter saga contains 1 084 180 words. At 10-12ss/2000 words that's 5420-6505 ss to unlock the entire harry potter saga. The best price you can get is $1 for 65 ss. So the entire Harry Potter saga would cost $83.38-$100.07.

      Getting the entire saga on kindle would cost me $66.09

      I'll let people judge if SS are actually worth their price.

      Also I've been seeing some novel that you can unlock by watching ads which I prefer by a long shot to being forced to pay ss to unlock stuff.

        ReganDryke To be honest, the price for harry potter was higher than 100 dollar when it was introduced. Given that a lot of these novels are being translated as week speak. I think we can see them as really new and thus get a higher price.

          ReganDryke The add-watching is only available for the first year that a webnovel is being translated on this site. If they don't finish within that timeframe, you're screwed.

              First they don't give me my stones for a contest and now no free chapters :/ Anyone wants to like form a discord/line group or even a google drive folder so we can unlock different novels and share the chapters? Not sure if this is allowed but it should be fine if its private I guess?

              Honestly I’m so triggered now.

              I’ve been saving up my ss, as I wanted to binge read a novel titled “It’s not easy to be a man after travelling to the future”. I have saved up almost 200ss, because as soon as I heard that the novel is done, i would splurge and unlock the remaining chapters.

              I’m tilted. This novel is not the only novel I read. Currently I’m reading about 20 webnovels on Qidian alone, and this shit comes up? When they first put up a use ad to unlock chapter, I grumbled a bit but I adapted, and I thought, well isn’t it just a short 8 seconds for each chapter?

              When they set up a premium system for some popular novels, I was infuriated. But wait, I calmed down as they said they would still unlock a chapter a day for readers. Not too bad, and also not all novels were under this system.

              Then this, this shit happens?

              Qidian, I’m sorely dissapointed. Your readers are not wads of cash, we are actual human beings. Work is hard, and salaries are limited.

              Even if the ads are not bringing in enough money, there is no need to block every reader behind a paywall. Wuxiaworld did not resort to such measures and they are still alive. Volarenovels too and many other translator sites. So what’s so special about you guys?

              Have you ever thought about the students or the unemployed? Do you not want to share to the world and spread the love for webnovels everywhere? To do this, you have to remember, not everyone has hundreds of dollars they are willing to spend on reading.

              Reading is a great hobby made horrible by people like you.

                TypeFantasyHeart all these shenanigans, will just make members migrate to other sites. I’ve been a reader since 2017 and still reading on Webnovel. I hope it stays that way but please Webnovel/QI, Get your act together!
