For me this novel is very good. Good world building, MC has a very interesting way of thinking as an anti-hero MC, MC does every action in reasonable way and solid prologue. I wonder why this novel doesn't get the same attention and popularity like Warlock of the Magus World? And, is it because this novel not so popular that the translation & release speed slow?

Wojtczak Warlock of the Magus World can't even be compared to this one, it's just that it got translated before this one so it's popular. WoMW may well have been 'inspired' by Daoist Gu as the author of WoMW is called 'the plagiarist' and you see references to coiling dragon, shounen manga, etc in the novel.

Also WoMW has insane release rate so it quickly rose up in popularity.

Wojtczak I agree, i found myself liking this guy more and more as i read! a

I can't stand Leylin from WoMW.. The character is just a total Mary Sue with no redeeming qualities at all. The character of Fang Yuan at least seems to have some sense of conscience so you can at least relate to him a bit.

Eukro At some point you just continue reading it because you started at some point. The whole story is really not that good. I'm still hoping that Leylin will fail in the end.

Ananya Yeah WoMW started to be trasnlated before Daoist Gu and it was quite different the part of the Ai chip, i have not saw in other novels before this one but now we have Age of Adepts and Wizard world that to have a AI chip or something similiar. But Fang Yuan mindset and choses makes me like him to the extreme. but the popularity to the WoMW may be duo to having more chapter and more and more people comenting abou it. Or is simply because a grand part of reader find weird the part about Gus, I in the start was feelling that I would not like the novel but I continued duo to the name being Reverend Insanity(i prefer this translation of the title).

The biggest appeal of WotMW is the OP MC that always gets what he wants in the end, (not) because of some strange coincidences, but because he planned for it to happen. Kind of.

              Also:
              1) Warlock is set in a Western-like world, compared to Gu Daoist.
              2) Warlock has magic, a much more familiar concept than the usage of Gu.
              3) Warlock has a lot more chapters out, and releases a lot more.
              4) Before QI picked it up, the translator released a lot less. Like a lot less.

I feel Daoist Gu is a very well written novel as compared to WoMW, it's more gripping and Fang Yuan is a more well defined character than Leylin.

                  7 days later

Well....I haven't read WoMW and that is plainly due to the shabby job on the Synopsis especially the Translators "fan" desc as I would call it. Though I would like to say Gu Doaist has this like lure going on or....should I say like a folktale theme . At least in the 58 chapters I have read that has been the case.

The MC tends to tell tales to describe history or the use of Gu which to me is akin to a scene where onlookers are watching a fight and start explaining what moves are and how much cooler they are than other moves. This may not be the same for everyone but I'm sure some will not like the certain style taken for those especially since they are so long(that's most of my problem with it in actuality). Within the 58 chapters I have read there is more Gu stories than there are for actually story progression.

I feel like this kind of thing won't be for everyone, it is certainly my first time seeing this in a novel, I once read Aisopos the webcomic but the main character was actually known for story telling and the like so it made more sense to me lol. Maybe that might be a factor why it does not have the appearance of flies flocking to honey for this book.

can anyone tell me what the hell is happening with GU Daoist releases? there is meant to be 7 chapters a week yet in the last 3 weeks theirs been what 5 chapters ...

Long since bored by WoMW, but after starting GDM a few days ago, I have binged over 400 chapters. To me GDM is much better written and holds my interest way better than WoMW. I really like how the gu (and character's abilitys) can evolve after a breakthrough. Also, the way the MC plans ahead and schemes really pleases my "inner intellectual"! Interested in how his actions change the future that he formerly knew.

SilentByakko As @Klepar reminded me MC was reincarnated as a baby to the gu master world. Wouldn't it be exciting to see his first time in the continent play out!?!

I have only read 50 or so chapters but around chapter 200 if it permits I would like a prequel like flashback. When this became clear to something like a prequel to his story is possible I'm like dying to see it all!! We saw his perfect so now lets see how badly he screwed up before...or didn't screw up? Huh?

SilentByakko I totally agree with u, sometimes I have skimmed through WoMW because it was too boring, sequences where he schemes against OP characters don't come too often.

But in Reverend Insanity, even trivial characters scheme against the MC, it's like every step the MC takes is a difficult one and the MC over here doesn't have any AI chip and instead only has a time travelling bug in hibernation.

Flaffy I don't think we will see flashback, we will only be allowed some glimpses from his past life I suppose. Author is not going for character development, he's going for a 'pure race to the stop sans morality route' filled with endless obstacles.

Ananya Honestly, I just wanna see his second life not 1st. MC is reincarnated to gu world or whatever then he F's up, dies and goes back in time and this was where story begins. I wanna see how he did it the first time he entered gu world before he went back in time. Like what he was thinking when he was a baby and reincarnated, how he became so cold...you know? That would be a great prequel!!! Or when the story gets dry which it probably will if he's going for 500+ chapters maybe we have like this emotional flashback of the time when he was naive and how became cold to survive... it would be cool regardless what authors goals are he has set the scene in such a way that he has different routes he could take... and i am interested more in that alternate route now lol.

Please, update? I will not be able to access the Internet for 6 months after this Friday. I want to read some GDM chapters before my internet is disconnected. :(

As someone who read the raws I can say that Daoist Gu is certainly in my TOP5 of all novels I read before. And after the MC reaches Rank 6 the plot gets even better. I just hope one day this novel can get a super-fast release rate like many others here in QI.

                                2 years later

Eukro lol im not going to spoil u but ill say this he is evil, but he aint mary sue or anything, he knows he is evil and accept it with pride
