  • The troll that attacked me today was trying to convince me that due to there not being comments on my work that must mean that they're terrible. I've been in the writing game long enough to know that few people leave comments or reviews and the few that do are often trolls unfortunately. Lack of comments doesn't mean that one's writing is "bad." It's the same on other sites as well. Lots of people read things but few bother to take a minute or two to comment which I think is sad. Someone has put so much thought, time and effort into writing something for your enjoyment and you can't even take a minute to show your appreciation? Readers seem to forget that writers are people, that stories are not created by machines. To me to read something someone wrote and not leave a comment or review if you liked it is something like stealing...someone provided you with a service and you gave them nothing in return. I think of movies and television programs too...everyone loves and talks about the actors, but no one ever mentions the writers. If there were no writers, the actors would have no story to act out, no lines to read. Without writers, actors would have nothing to perform.

    • Not sure what settings you're referring to. When I posted mine there were only a couple that needed to be marked...I had to mark it as fanfic and then what category it would go under (mine was movies.) Other than that, it showed up just fine when I looked for it under fanfiction and the category.

      • My understanding is that you can't sell fanfiction of any franchise when you don't have the rights or permission from whoever owns it to do so. That's why all fanfiction sites are free because the authors are not allowed to make money from it. There are established authors that do get permission or contracted to write novels based in different franchise universes. For example, there are many authors that have written Star Trek books that you can find in the bookstore and books from other TV series and movies like Star Wars, but again, they have a contract with those who hold the rights to the franchise.

      • itsmeTuba I couldn't find a way to delete chapter comments. All I saw was a thumbs up option, a reply option, and a report option. Maybe I missed it. I'm new to this particular site.

        • It would be nice if writers were able to delete comments made on their works. I know that would mean that they could delete legitimate criticism as well, but I think it would make writers feel better if they were able to instantly get rid of troll comments. I just had a troll comment on two of my works and there's no way for me to delete their comment like I can on other sites where I've posted my works. When I can instantly delete such comments I can also pretty easily forget about them and not let them get to me as much since they're gone. When you can't delete them and they're still there, it's more difficult because you're reminded of them.

Sequel to Loki: For All That Is Lost which can also be found on this site https://www.webnovel.com/book/loki%3A-for-all-that-is-lost_17949089305678505. If you haven't read it, you should read that one first.

Loki and his new queen, on a quest to preempt any threat from the foes who escaped after the Battle of New Asgard and secure their future, find themselves stranded in a horrifying new realm.

            • This is something that I struggle with. I know many people dislike "fanfiction" and think it's all crap (I admit, a good amount is, but there ARE good writers of it out there and some professional authors also write it in their spare time for fun. I was just reading an article about this yesterday), but recently that's what I've been in the mood to write and since March I've written a trilogy based on the Loki character from Marvel...three novels and also a novel length story that takes place before the first Thor movie. I've gotten "ok" numbers of readers on the sites I've posted it on but nothing spectacular. The thing is, I've been writing for over 30 years (yeah, giving away my age here lol) and I've won a few awards over the years so I'm not a hack. The people who actually bother to read the novels I'm talking about love them, but I just can't get many people to get past the "fanfiction is all crap' mindset in order to read them. Another thing that bothers me is that of those that DO read fanfiction, it seems that the stuff that truly IS crap is the stuff many of them like LOL I was joking with my son the other day that no one pays any attention to the stuff written by a good writer but someone writes about Naruto or Pokemon using the bathroom and boom! five stars and 50 glowing reviews LOL The thing is, I've been playing with some original story ideas lately but due to the weak response to my other stuff I've spent 6 months writing and poring over and putting so much work and thought into, I'm feeling a bit too depressed and unmotivated to write them.
