I do not look anymore. Chinese novels are racist, and there is nothing to discuss. If you are one of the people who does not believe in it or does not think it is possible then you are blind or innocent or have never been part of a group of minorities who suffer in hegemony. So do yourself a favor and understand what racism is and what patriotism is, especially what culture is, before someone says some shit like "This is Chinese patriotism, killing hundreds of Japanese or Americans" / "This is culture from there kill blabla ... "/

I do not support genocide, racism, rape, domestic violence .... Anything that will hurt human integrity. (Not to mention that I also do not support the mistreatment of any animal). I am not saying that these things will not exist in the novels, but that it has moderation and that it makes some sense. Not only to exalt that the Chinese MC is superior to other ethnicities then he goes there to do a genocide in another ethnicity!

If you use racism, homophobia, this kind of thing to "enrich" history, how to give some characterization there is some villain, is normal and makes sense, but leave randomly killing other ethnicities to show that the Chinese are superior?

If you think this is normal, then do not even answer my item.

Good night

TheMDmaster11 I'm okay with chinese apocalypse novel portraying china as no.1 or whatever as that is also how hollywood portray americans as saviour of the earth, but IRAS is a different case. That novel is just way too racist for me to bear.

    Reinesse
I do not expect French people in cultivation novels. Nor any ethnicity, because it does not make sense.
Anyway, what is unbearable is gratuitous racism and gratuitous genocide, like, "I'm going to kill these people because I'm Chinese and so I'm superior" >>>> that kind of thinking.

I do not care about "racism" if it is to give emphasis and there is some degrading characteristic to some character, but racism, which I spoke in this case and that I am against, is usually when the novel is in the modern world or in a world that has multicultures and ethnicities.

In novels of cultivation the major problem lies in chauvinism, rape as a normal thing, pedophilia and random murders, without cause or reason.

In this case this is for another discussion.

I do not know if I say this topic has to die, or if it grows up again.

Take_the_Moon The arrogance of the Chinese I summed up the following reasons.
      1. Usually the nationalism in mainland China is far better than Hong Kong and Taiwan because of the propaganda of the Communist Party.
      2. Overseas Chinese have made great achievements. Most of the economies of almost all countries in Southeast Asia are in the hands of a few Chinese. Indonesia's 2-3 percent of Chinese immigrants control more than 70 percent of listed companies. The Chinese who accounted for 5 percent of the total population of Vietnam before 1975 controlled the economy of 70-80 percent in Vietnam. These things also happen in all Southeast Asian countries in Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia.
      3. The area controlled by the Chinese is always rich. If you know the story about the four little dragons in Asia. In just a few decades, they have changed from a third world to a first world. Hong Kong Singapore Taiwan South Korea, three of which are mainly Chinese-controlled areas. In addition, you will find that the more Chinese people in Southeast Asia, the more developed the economy of this country.
      4. The rapid development of the Chinese economy. The stereotype of most people is still that the Chinese are very poor and eat garbage on the street. However, in 2018 China's per capita GDP exceeded Brazil, Turkey and Mexico. More worthy of attention is that China's GDP growth rate is still maintained at more than 6 percent.
Other developing countries have fallen into the middle income trap. For example, Brazil's annual GDP growth is only about 1 percent or even no growth. As long as there is no civil strife in China, it is only a matter of time for a developed country. It took only 40 years for China to transform from communism to a capitalist country. 40 years ago, China’s per capita GDP was only one-third of that of the Philippines. China’s per capita GDP is now more than three times that of the Philippines.40 years ago, Brazil’s per capita GDP was six times that of China. China’s per capita GDP has now surpassed Brazil. https://www.imf.org/external/datamapper/NGDPDPC@WEO/OEMDC/ADVEC/WEOWORLD

Some of this information is new to me, I say I've never been interested in researching some of these subjects. Others I already knew.
        Thanks for the information.

All nationality thinks they are the schiznit. It's not surprising.

Not intending to generalize, but like many cultures and nations there is prejudice, discrimination and stigma of many things including nationality .... It isn't too nice (sometimes outright ridiculous) but no longer surprises me since I have seen/heard/felt the racism/prejudice by various Asian persons towards other asian/south asian/any other countryman. As viet (but born in Canada), I have been both welcomed or given courtesy by Chinese/other asian people here and also rebuffed/disdained by chinese/other asian for being viet (let alone from caucasian or other races). So, culturally there is some and then having a country like China which has long promoted its national pride & patriotism, it isn't surprising to find elements of such attitudes in fiction writing (perhaps editors may have even influenced writers to add/include due to political pressure or censorship) .....

A lot of Chinese novels, especially those set in modern times, contain overt racism and nationalism. It's part of the national education system in China. Teachers would instill patriotism in students by reminding them of the evils of Japan, Korea and Vietnam and the rest of the world. Remember also that China is under one-party rule. Unlike the USA, they do not have liberal politicians to balance out the overt nationalism of the conservatives there.

I remember several incidents where ramen shops in China were attacked simply because the nationalists didn't want Japanese culture to take root in China. Even though the owners of the ramen shops were Chinese nationals themselves.

Anyway, since you asked for it, I have compiled a list of Chinese novels that DO NOT contain racism or nationalism. However, because I don't want to exclude 99.99% of Chinese novels out there, let's have a few guidelines in place. So if the majority of the novel's super-powered families or characters all have Chinese names, let's live with that. If the protagonist happens to think that Chinese cuisine is far more delicious than French food, let's live with that. And I am also fine with novels where the few foreigners who appear all play supporting roles.

What I want to exclude from this list are novels where almost all the Japanese/Korean/American characters are evil bastards out to destroy Chinese civilization. Or where they appear for no good reason other than to give a hate speech about the Chinese. Or where women of a particular race (Japanese) somehow deserve to be raped just because of what happened during WW2.

Please continue to offer your recommendations for this list. I will keep updating the list here based on the recommendations coming in, and categorize them according to their genres.

I kinda agree I just drop divine beast adventures at chapter 340 cause of how racist it was. Like there was always racism in it but in chapter 340 the mc actually say everyone who isn't one of his people (chinese) can't be considered human so killing them is no big. Also throughout the novel the women of other countries are basically whores and prostitutes. And I mean I get in like American writing we make America look good and all but we don't make everyone from other places fucking subhuman.

                7 months later

LordSu I agree with your point that, however some novels are borderline, stretching what could be called patriotism and nationalism, in many novels on webnovel the MC often confronts foreigners and always expresses his disdain against them and their countries, these countries include America and Japan. The author always creates and excuse for the MC to insult them with many slurs like "evil capitalists" "japanese dogs" "mentally retarded koreans" under the premise of that it wasn't the MC's fault. This is stupid, its just racism and there are worst things that could happen, i've seen a literal novel titled "Killing japanese devils with an arsenal system" serialized in china. If webnovel is gonna cater to foreign audiences it needs to make sure that the novel they choose doesn't have borderline racism everywhere in the novel it makes people uncomfortable.

Kurottan You can find serialized chinese novels in china called "Killing Japanese Devils with an Arsenal System".
Other racist novels often are "Special forces novels or super soldier" novels where the MC has an excuse to slaughter foreigners .
Some novels straight up make the MC slaughter other countries because they "Stupidly" provoked the MC in some way.
Even in some webnovels is a theme of racism.

                  MrDaemonaux

Especially since this is webnovel, these novels are suppose to be catered to foreign audiences but then they straight up are full of nationalism to china which we don't give a single shit about, if their gonna choose a novel then choose a good novel without poisonous borderline racism everywhere.

                  SnoozySloth
This would be fine if it was in china. The problem is webnovel is catered to FOREIGN audiences, we don't need borderline racism for every chapter we read.

                    yaoyueyi
You see... This is actually a problem. Foreign books and Chinese novels are very very different. Lets take an example shall we? Harry Potter. You don't see the MC flaunting how Britain is the best, in fact in many European books writers almost never take a political stance at all, if they do, their entire career could be at risk. Chinese novels however, thats a whole different story, you see the author could straight up insult an entire country and just shrug it off as patriotism, the author could use "culture" as an excuse to insult foreign countries, a good example of this is when some MC gains the ability to do traditional chinese medicine and then somehow beats every western doctor forcing the western doctor to do some derogatory thing or flaunt that traditional chinese medicine is the best or some stupid shit like that. In European novels, all that you see at most is some weird dish or habit that you never heard of so you search it up on google, thats how you add culture to your novel. Like wth I don't see chinese novels talking about the dragon boat festival or any holidays other than Chinese New Year, if they wanted to add culture to their novel then just talk about Chinese holidays or traditional dishes like Zongzi or something idk.

                      Eishun
                      Gourmet Food Supplier
Gourmet Food supplier is a problem, it also has racism within it, I distinctly remember giving up the novel due to blatant racism against americans, I also remember that the MC forced americans to pay the same price in USD, for example if a dish was 15 yuan aka like 2 usd, the MC would force the american to pay 15 usd because he's american, the MC basically said the reason for this was because americans are evil capitalists.
