Ever since I started writing I've started to read very little. Granted, part of why I started writing was because I exhausted literally almost all of the good translated books first. Now whenever I try to read I usually end up losing interest quickly because I would rather work on my own story. Go figure, lol. That being said, I do think it's important to read other books to improve your writing. I notice things now I never did previously, which is both good and bad. The good is that other novels help me make big leaps of improvement in my own book. The bad is that I've become far more nit-picky about bad grammar, sentence structure, and story ideas. I can no longer sit down and enjoy a 'bad' book like I used to due to my now higher standards.
My suggestion for you would be to set aside some specific time for reading. When you start writing, reading becomes part of your work/research. So I think it's fine to distract yourself from writing a bit, as it will likely improve your novel in the long run. That being said, you should also branch out and try reading a variety of books. I try to look at some from all genres (even ones I don't like) and read at least a few chapters while examining it to improve my writing style/flow.
You may also want to try improving your writing time. I used to take 4-5 hours per chapter written. Now I usually only take 2-3 hours. How? First, I keep an outline. Writing is much faster when you know most of what's going to happen for at least the next few chapters. Second, I set a specific block of time down for writing. I force myself to write during that time whether I want to or not. All without taking breaks. This has allowed me to drastically reduce my writing time.
