FujiCigarette Pretty much because of the "NDA" no one will ever truely know whats true and what is lies but if these brain dead fans would get there head outta their ass long enough to think about the situation unbiasedly they would realize that the whole damn situation having a verbal agreement with an NDA is shady as fuck on both sides, qidians for requiring it and RWX's for agreeing and signing it. As far as the novels go like I have stated I don't read translations on this site. For the ones that WW translates I read them over on WW. I could personaly care less about their fight as long as someone keeps translating the ones I read.

InfernalRhage I could personaly care less about their fight as long as someone keeps translating the ones I read.

    i concur....

now that weve gone terribly of topic.... lets go back to the topic and conclude these facts for others that will come here with the same opinions

    1. yes locked chapters are increasing and free chapters are getting rarer... what can you do? well a lot of things actually but making another thread like this is not one of them..
    2. yeah its shitty for the site to do this but hey... hate the site not the TLS and Authors... ok? for those that complain in the review/comment section blaming the ones that didnt implement the business models can go screw themselves another arsehole...cause really? out of all the things you do that is what you do?
    3. hope for the best and not the worst.. and if even the worst happens always look for a brightside..
    4. if you cant take it no more... feel free to leave and use other services say goodbye and then move on...
    5. thats all just wanted to add another number so that other people will hate me for not making an even number of well-----numbers.

Pretty much they can either suck it up and deal or go somewhere else for their novel fix because webnovel is not gonna change no matter how many people complain. For every user that leaves there are multiple who join. Readers are not special they are a dime a dozen. Hell even translators can be replaced which is why most of them hide under alt accounts when complaining about the company. This is not a hobby like some of the other translation sites it is a business, and the only thing any business cares about is profits. Yes the community got spoiled for years by sites like WW who post there translations for free at most asking for donations. Oh well Big Daddy Q finally realized how much money he was potentially losing by letting others do the English translations and decided he didn't like that. That is how we ended up here, unfortunatly money makes the world go round and the free ride is over. Shit happens get over it and move on while being thankful you got a few years of free translations.

Redzeth ehh thats not too bad. I mean some of these books are locked at around chapter 50. So having 350 free chapters is pretty cool. Honestly no use in complaining. these type of threads have been here since the start of premium, and they have not and will not make a difference. Only thing that means a damn to any company is the numbers, and clearly the numbers arent too bad.

some people do not seem to get it... With the price asked by Qdian some of these book even if you do not own a physical copy of it, can't really read everywhere you go (not every place has internet) cost a lot more than a physical book... A library card cost me nothing and i have access to more book than Qdian will probably ever have...

Also some people seem to think that that everyone live in the state and use the US dollar for currency. Sorry but it's not the case and that mean that i paid even more for the same fucking thing. If they used a more fair system i might be a little more ok but it's not the case.

For the people who still not get it... With the current system and the book i used to read it would cost me around 380$ us dollars or close to 500$ CAN for something i don't even own for a years... and yes that is after i have included the free stone you get everyday (being lucky i counted 20 a day for 365 when you ever rarely get that many and you have to visit the site each day and work for it)... It might be little for some but i hate throwing money for something i do not own and that is for only one years... but most book will take more than one year to be completed. For less than Qdian (that only me use) and for thing i do not own i can stack a full year membership for Netflix, Amazon Prime, CrunchyRoll and other which can be used by many at home... Some of those thing even include other benefice...

[unknown] It is not that no one gets it it is just that there is not anything anyone can do about it qidian is a business they do not care about anything but profits. Readers are replacable as messed up as that may sound it is true. Not to mention authors and translators need to be paid while still earning the company enough to make running this site worth while. While the pricing may not be fair I'm gonna tell you what my dad told me growing up, Suck it up buttercup life ain't fair and if you expect it to be your in for a life time of disappointment.

it's what i did... I am only reading one novel at the moment and once it's done and i have not any spirit stone left i will probably leave if they do not change...

          InfernalRhage
Sorry i started paying for the shit i wanted before i was 10 years old with the money i had earned myself that is why i hate throwing money on thing i do not own...
Sucking it up if for idiot who keep accepting it and keep paying for shit like that but sorry, not my case. I am only emptying what i have in stone and they will not get a penny more...

I laughed when someone hid my comment implying something that they dont like hearing without taking in what i wrote in the rest of the post.....
like really now? .... fair enough

Lobo Who do you think is paying for it because I sure as hell ain't. I stopped reading all translated novels once they started ad locking them and drop every original novel that gets picked up by the company once they start locking chapters. You only have two options deal with it or leave, throwing a fit about something because it is unfair just makes you seem childish. Like I said life ain't fair get the fuck over it.

Fyi markup on average word for qidan is almost 100%. .2 cents a word is overpriced when compared to books sold on amazon. I don't want a 1000 chapters for 10$. What I want is competitive price matching on $$$ per word in general.

Maybe we should change from reading novels on this site to reading forum post. So much more interesting and free.

WigglerGod if it's true it's no wonder some author like to repeat themself so many time in so many chapters...

Well i went to start advent of archmage today then i saw from 550 chapters 300 are locked .. So sad i wont read it ill have to finish the other novels to be able to afford this in 1+ year or more mby. I Liked the idea of some comment above to have ads for chapters and ss for the last 50chapter or smth sadly it wont happen and ill just have to pirate my way to read my novels on other sites ;(

                      WigglerGod

                      At least do correct math.

At the worst price value, 1$ = 50 ss.

                      1 ss = 200 words.

                      Therefore

                      $0.02 = 200 words

                      Therefore

                      $0.01 = 100 words

                      $0.0001 = 1 word.

AuthorWiz How does that compare to CN Qidian's prices? Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've heard others say, it's cheaper over there?

I think it's fine that there isn't a limit on the locked chapters, it's the author's hard work and we can't expect to be handed things for free. That said, it is only Webnovel that doesn't give out free daily chapters - this is the only thing that bothers me. I'm of the opinion that those who will pay, will pay, and those who won't, won't. So there shouldn't much of a loss in releasing free dailies, perhaps there would even be a gain?

Anyway, I think it's kind of like a slap in the face that Webnovel don't follow the rest of the community regarding this. And it's not like their premium novels are of a higher quality than other translated works, sure, some are good, but most are bad. And there are many excellent works available for free (or free dailies) on other sites.

In the end, though, it all comes down to communication. Webnovel don't say anything to us, they just make changes -> let us figure them out -> let us be angry -> wait for things to simmer down -> repeat. And it's disgusting.

AuthorWiz I find it difficult to understand why you keep defending this company at every turn. You're a good author with a good book, one that many enjoy, but surely even you can see that QI's practices have been less than satisfactory since their founding. This company is built on false promises, little communication, and pretty much no concern for their customers. In any case, that's another topic altogether. Now, regarding the discussion at hand, you keep saying word count this and word count that, but I think it is imperative (especially for these translated CN novels) to NOT be judged based on word count. That is an absolutely HORRIBLE idea for anyone who has read the majority of these novels out there. Why? Fillers. 70% of entire novels being fillers. In western practice, you usually judge a novel's price by its quality and/or popularity with word count being a relatively small factor (compared to the aforementioned criteria anyway). I have seen huge books for $10 and also fairly small books for $50. If I go to a publisher here with a novel equivalent to 1200 average CN novel chapters and 1000 of those chapters being absolute crap or fillers and tell them I wish to price the whole thing for $300, they might straight slap me across the face. I got nothing against you and I believe the quality of the novels you write is superb, but you should not speak up for bad businesses. Randomly locking previously unlocked chapters is not good business practice. I'm not here saying that these novels don't deserved to be priced. Certainly, they must be priced for the effort that went into them. I just think the current price is not fair. At least, not for most of them.

I feel that everyone is over aggressive about this issue. Online translations before QI arrived in the market were all free to read, half because translators just want to share, half because they legally can't paywall novels they don't hold the copyrights too. You can donate to surrport their "translation service" but that was all.

As a result, we all became used to this. When QI came along, the original copyright holders of these novels, they didn't immediately upset this trend but also released all chapters free, before moving step by step toward the business model they have always used.

It needs to be understood that QI are a company, and every decision made are done so in the company's best interests. A company runs to make profits, it is the sole reason for its creation. Most of the hate being directed at QI in quite uncalled for, some people purely complaining that they can't afford it, therefore the company should lower the price for them. From a business perspective, this is simply a joke and nobody who is in charge of pricing will ever take it seriously.

As for who complained that they are just profiteering off what they have previously profited off, this is an extremely distasteful way of putting it. What they are doing, is taking their product and expanding it to an international market. This is purely business development.

                          @WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL (I don't know if that works)
In regards to the current pricing of spirit stones, I would request that it is considered for a reevaluation.

The current price packets could be considered cheap at first, but not any longer. With the growing number of novels being added, and more and more chapters being premium, the average reader cannot financially support keeping up to date with more than a few novels. This will only become more severe as more novels are added.

I believe the current prices of the packages are perfectly fine, but the spirit stones are becoming more and more insufficient. Even from the business perspective, when consumers get more for their money, they are more willing to spend it.

                            You are mischaracterizing me.

I have written like 3 comments correcting misinformation about SS prices.

I have not "defended the company at every turn."

                            Also:

You seemed to have missed the point.

A 1200 chapter long CN title is not a single book.

It would be better viewed as 10-15 books in a series, each one costing ~$5-10.

No one is going to try and publish a 1,200,000 word length piece as a single book. That is longer than the entire Harry Potter series, which was 7 books, many of them considered very long.
