As the subject title suggest, anyone know what's up with these chapters being split into parts, especially so for novels which don't have these splits in the original? I wonder whose "genius" idea this was.

I have no issues with the system itself, only that the ones hosting it are not credible. How am I to trust a company that has many books never on schedule? You can't expect people to buy a privilege, when your normal service is crap. Would I buy a first class ticket to an airplane where 80% of the flights are a few days late without warning? I don't think so.
I don't even have the energy for insults. I'm just sad, very sad.
Can someone PLEASE pick up and finish Shen Yin Wang Zuo? It's not too far from completion, and used to be a really popular novel. I'm sure there are quite a few like me who are eager to read it to the finish.

Tofu Regardless of the result, thank you for the attempt. Much appreciated. I know some people hating on the Thunder and saying he's lying, but please wish him the best with whatever he's dealing with. People (including myself) tend to get overexcited when it comes to the novels they love.

Tofu If the man is having personal issues then he should have given a statement to begin with, "I'm having huge personal problems. I won't be able to translate consistently for 3 months. I apologize, and promise to come back strong."
That's understandable since life happens, but instead we are promised "I'll catch up" or "extra chapters". This is not very professional. Besides, if a group is managing it, can't they temporarily switch translators until Thunder sorts out his problems? I guess I don't really know the size of the group so it's not a fair assumption, but this really risks losing fans for the novel.
AuthorWiz I find it difficult to understand why you keep defending this company at every turn. You're a good author with a good book, one that many enjoy, but surely even you can see that QI's practices have been less than satisfactory since their founding. This company is built on false promises, little communication, and pretty much no concern for their customers. In any case, that's another topic altogether. Now, regarding the discussion at hand, you keep saying word count this and word count that, but I think it is imperative (especially for these translated CN novels) to NOT be judged based on word count. That is an absolutely HORRIBLE idea for anyone who has read the majority of these novels out there. Why? Fillers. 70% of entire novels being fillers. In western practice, you usually judge a novel's price by its quality and/or popularity with word count being a relatively small factor (compared to the aforementioned criteria anyway). I have seen huge books for $10 and also fairly small books for $50. If I go to a publisher here with a novel equivalent to 1200 average CN novel chapters and 1000 of those chapters being absolute crap or fillers and tell them I wish to price the whole thing for $300, they might straight slap me across the face. I got nothing against you and I believe the quality of the novels you write is superb, but you should not speak up for bad businesses. Randomly locking previously unlocked chapters is not good business practice. I'm not here saying that these novels don't deserved to be priced. Certainly, they must be priced for the effort that went into them. I just think the current price is not fair. At least, not for most of them.
lazyDaoist Looks like I was a bit late.
In Different World with Naruto System. I read this one a while back. It's not exactly like the ones you've mentioned. The original characters of the show don't appear in it and it just has the MC use the Naruto ninja system in a typical CN novel world. It's not great and actually pretty ridiculous, but if you like Naruto, you'll probably be fine with some of the inconsistencies.
It's really tough since there are so many good ones. I won't mention any that have already been said.
So, almost any IET MC that hasn't been mentioned would work. Plus, Yan Zhaoge from HSSB.TargetPractice1 Hmm.. maybe you're right, but I think (could be wrong) that was right before it became premium so that was in preparation for it. I don't believe free users saw even one week of that release rate before it became premium.
Oxy I don't care much for this argument since I'm not sure if QI is bothering to listen to what people have to say, but I do have to make sure you understand that the premium system is NOT the same as Patreon. If you think that then either you have a misconception of Patreon or of the premium system. Suppose, a free translator posts 5 chapters a week and they open a Patreon account. Once they reach a certain goal, they release 14 chapters a week and give the Patreon subscribers 3-30 advanced chapter depending on amount pledged. However, aside from the advanced chapters, the free readers don't lose anything. In other words, the release rate is the SAME for both free readers and those who pledged. Furthermore, the difference of chapters between free readers and subscribers will always remain at most 30 unless a new tier is introduced which seldom happens. The most important thing is that the release rate does not change for the free users.
In the premium system though, the release rate does change. Free readers were getting around 14-18 chapters for Immortal Mortal (I can't recall exactly) a week before it became premium. Now, they get 7 free chapters a week. The idea that they decreased the release rate changes it quite a bit in comparison to Patreon. You can't decrease the release rate and expect users to not flip out. Now, Immortal Mortal's premium release rate is 25 ch/week. The difference between free and premium chapters is 18 chapters per week. That difference is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. If they gave us 14 chapters for free which they were doing before for free readers anyway and increased the release rate so that those extra chapter could be locked, I wouldn't mind. Even though the system is still garbage (I won't go into detail on other flaws of the system since there are plenty of threads for that), at least it would show QI is considerate of the poorer readers. One might argue that they give us free SS to make up a lot of the difference, but you have to consider that this is just ONE or the many novels on here. If they were all premium, then that would be ridiculous.
TearsOfRose I agree with you, but I also think Qidian's system with reviews is really bad. They should limit each account to one review per novel and this isn't super hard to implement either. While people could still create more accounts to give fake reviews, only hardcore trolls would really go that far. This would reduce the fake reviews by huge amount.
I'm fairly certain that locked chapters unlock at a rate of 1 chapter a day. Keep in mind though, if you unlock a chapter with SS, you'll have to wait an extra day for the free chapter to catch up. For example, if a novel has chapter 350 and up locked. Then, chapter 350 will be unlocked the next day. However, if you unlock chapter 350 with SS, then you won't get it for free the next day. In other words, you will NOT get chapter 351. You will have to wait for the day after the next.

Miya I do think that it's alright to strive to be better (for controllable things); however, we often focus on those things far too much and lose sight of what we have. As you said, it's in our nature to always want to be more. Someone might wish to be kinder, someone else may wish to be more intelligent, another may want to be fitter thus I believe that being content with oneself does not just mean to accept who you are today, but also accepting who you could or wish to be tomorrow. It's accepting your life, whether good or bad and understanding that you are unique at every stage of your life.
Miya I may not agree on some topics, but I must say that I couldn't agree more on this one. Truly a great view on life. To be content within oneself is one of the best state of mind.
Velixar "What’s even better is that all the premium chapter money goes directly to Qidian and translators don’t see a cent."
I hope you don't mind me asking, where did you find this information from? :oGibbs RIP coffee shop examples.
