Chryiss I can't actually think of a novel where a review or handful of bad or critical reviews really affected the rating.

I have. It was beyond brutal to the point of declaring ,"the Exp Sect has claimed this book".

As I've said before, I think the system needs proper content control checks (must be Level 3, read 80% of the book, not flagged for reported content...). I know it'll cost them to put something like this in place, and would require some ongoing support.

But this site really needs to showcase their quality more and reader verbatim is the way to do it without having to spend bucket loads on other qualitative measures.

In all honesty, the Webnovel brand needs to improve. It's still immature and being overshadowed by Wattpad. I guess that's why I'm here. I want to see this site and brand go the distance and have my fingers crossed they don't keel over.

Having a crappy review system is a ticket to an untimely grave. Who's to say Tencent doesn't pull the plug on this site because it's not attracting enough reader revenue to justify the cost of running it? All because the review system was crap. It will be a shame if that were to happen.

A proper review system is critical to the catalog, and a way to ensure there's a chance this doesn't happen.

Veronica8 You need a filter to cut off at the initial stage reviews that violate the rules for using the information platform. Secondly, we need a function to make a comment for other users except the author and to whom this review was sent (if it does not violate the rules) is hidden. Thirdly it would be great if you could remove the novel. I have one.
Fourthly, it would be nice if the staffs promptly respond to the authors' letters, if suddenly a novel without a reason becomes suddenly banned.

Veronica8 Then should remove the task of gaining experience in writing reviews ... reviews of any ... maybe it makes sense to specify the requirements for writing reviews ... and not to miss the alphabetic characters and just the repetition of the same words from the very beginning, when publishing reviews ????

Tim_ It works both ways. If the horrid translations/novels delete reviews it tricks people into reading garbage due to inflated good reviews. Honestly though, I can't imagine wasting SS to troll a novel I dislike.

Woebegone Who actually cares about the experience. Levelling up gives me nothing I cannot do without. I like having extra power stones to vote on multiple novels, but I only NEED one per day. Energy stones I only use one per day anyway.

I wonder if there is a level 7 in reality? What is the difference between level 6 and 5? What do experience points give? More stones?

Maekellen I care for a bit, Even a pitiful amount of experience gathered for a day will become big if you repeat doing that. But It doesn't really matter, I don't always read anyway.

Woebegone And what do experience points give? Can I read more chapters without paying stones? More stones? What is the general meaning of these experience points and banners? Do they allow you to enter some other level of access to closed chapters? Are there any practical benefits from them?

Gourmet_DAO I see your opinion, and I will tell you: there simply is not enough time (which I at least consider valuable) to read all books and form an opinion on them by myself. That is the reason why I reach for reviews.

Thus, as an author myself, I can see how aggravating it can be to see a 1 star review as it brings down your score, making you receive less viewers and generally makes your book less read. However, every time someone brings that topic up (1 star reviews ruin the review section), they will have to deal with people commenting “hurr dur, what about nonsensical 5 star reviews then”, so I believe if getting rid of nonsensical 5 star reviews will also get rid of 1 star reviews, then I think it is a necessary evil (or good, for that matter).

Also, as to how all reviews are subjective: we all know, some reviews are better than others. Theres no need to pretend this isn’t the case. Not all reviews are equal. There is no slippery slope in which deleting one review may lead to deleting other reviews. It is like saying, “I don’t give my child candy, because what if he one day starts to do crack?”

The boundaries are well established. If you don’t understand, here’s an example=

“I hate this I hate this I hate this. 1 star.” Is spam.

“I believe this novel is not up to par because of […]” Is a constructive review. The difference is night and day.

Reviews are too unreliable. One likes to troll, others get reviews on the principle you write to me and I tell you. No one reads. Therefore, I have stopped reading reviews of the last three months.

1 star and 5 star .. this is from the fact that the system of writing reviews is not perfect. This review is work. And not just blah blah blah.

In literature, there are always forphiles and contentfiles ...

One does not like the form and bad English, others do not like good English and empty content. Well, all the markers have a different color.

You can blame the work, but do not have to go over the personality of the author, while respecting network ethics. And so it is your right to put 1,2,3,4,5 stars

Gourmet_DAO None, but collecting experience is fun. I want to see my level slowly going up until the very peak or Max level as they says. I do it for self-satisfaction and not for benefits.

Gourmet_DAO I definitely agree with separating an author from his work. Unfortunately, not everyone manages to do that. You are right, as said before, reviews are subjective, just like the works they are reviewing. However, that subjectiveness counts only if there is a valid example+explanation. A review (or anything really) without proper explanation for why it is the way it ism is simply not qualified for a review. That is what I believe. You will also see people defending theirs nonsensical reviews by saying “it is just my opinion” but having an opinion does not make you immune to criticism.

Just as a book can be critized so can a review. And thankfully, we all are human, and should have respectable mods which can separate spam from constructive criticism. And then maybe we can also have people seeing reviews and scores as a legitimate source for recommendations,
