Not a lot, at least starting out. Then you need to drag the story out to meet the chapter release rates.
It's okay for a hobby, I guess. The benefits is exposure and fanbase.
Alaheeza honestly Idk. there are a lot of variables.
First: how good are you with english? cuz if your grammar is bad or you do not find it easy to write fluently in english, being recognized is quite difficult. Also it will take a lot of time for you to write a single chapter.
So far, in my experience, unless you take it as a hobby, it takes much more than it gives. as VeronicaP3 said, is good if you want to establish a fanbase/exposure. Otherwise....
[unknown] Well, i am a student so i need to pay my student loans. I am working 5-6 hours for my webnovel and if doesnt pay me accordingly, then i would rather look for a part time job to support myself.
If it's just paying student loans, then with some significant effort, I think writing on here could help that burden somewhat. But living off of it is probably not feasible unless you get millions of views and thousands of gifts. I imagine that the translations are the ones that rake in the most money from people who buy/gift SS. Of course, these are all just suppositions. I don't know anything for sure at all. But considering that authors on other sites who don't get their profits halved by Webnovel sharing them, and they can't live off the thousands of dollars per month, then it's just a source of side income while doing something enjoyable aka writing. With that said, it also depends on where and how you live, so someone probably could live off five thousand a month.
This is all from what I calculated in my head based on the numbers and the popularity of original authors and their works. You'd have to constantly pump up content to get any decent return for the hours put in. For instance:
If a 1200 word chapter takes one hour to write and edit, then 1200 words = 6 SS to unlock if it's a premium chapter. If the 6 SS are paid SS and not free ones from mission rewards, and 200 words = 1 SS which is 0.02 USD, then you're effectively getting 0.12/2 = 0.06 USD for one chapter. If 100 readers all unlock that chapter with paid SS, then one hour of work equates to 0.06 x 100 = $6 an hour.
A lot of variables have to be checked off to get this amount of money. It's highly likely that 1.2k words might not take an hour and possibly more based off another thread that discussed how long a chapter takes to write.
So yes, it can be good source of income, but the question is how many people use paid SS to unlock chapters of original novels which don't output hundreds of chapters like translations; thus, readers have more time stocking up on free SS to use on original premium novels.
Huuu, I think my data analytics side is getting to me again. Now I'm curious about WN's site and book stats. >x<''
Legion20 ya ya... I'm a native jap speaker so English is not my forte as reflected in my novel. But I try to make it understandable to most readers
Just make sure your novel was not pirated by many sites or else, you will get less income for sure..
