Cantiara That's pirate app who steals our novels. How would you feel if you did a project which you worked hundreds of hours on and want to earn from and suddenly someone steals it from you, starting to earn from it? (Yes, those sites earn even if its free to read. They earn with ads) If you promote that then you are not better than everything you are trying to fight against.

ThyUnknownSaint I read that interview. It only proves that the customers are the ones that make the final decision, doesn't it? As far as I know that particular author hasn't even taken part in this new privilege system and she is still able to make that kind of money. That's because readers like the story she is writing. As long as a lot of customers like your product, they will make the sale. As simple as that. Other authors here that don't earn that much and go around supporting the Privilege system because they want instant profit should probably need to focus on honing their own skills instead of baiting whales.

Piokilek So? I'm also against greedy companies that are purely profit focused that they hurt their customers in the process.

I said I still support several translators and authors here by reading their works here and pay the SS as well as sending them gifts. I have no interest in supporting the greedy ones that only focus on instant profit with little care for their readers.

      Piokilek
Some of your novels are translated, are those translators paying royalties to the authors? otherwise it’s a pot calling kettle black.

Piokilek Oh and believe it or not, just about 1,5 weeks ago I was still reprimanding people who chose to read the novels on those other free sites and I was still encouraging them to support the authors/translators by using this app/site. But the way WN responds to their customers in this forum, including this thread, and how you as an author keep defending their shady practices, I lost my respect. So why should I still show my support?

My biggest issue with this is that you can't see on your book list which chapters are privileged and which are basic unlock. I don't typically go on the forum I just like to read my stories and go about my day. When I saw what I thought was a massive release of several of my faves I was really happy and impressed only to find this bs. I get paying authors and translaters but paying twice for something doesn't seem right to me and they could put a seperate chapters available list on the books unread chapters. That would give you a heads up which chapters are privileged and which are easy unlock.

Xenamurai I think you don't understand the meaning behind the word "Professional". Who do you consider a professional writer? Someone, who earn a lot by writing? Or does all authors who earn millions from their books need to pass a writing test to be considered one and get a professional writer license? Or maybe someone who writes for years and only after 10-20 years he can be considered pro. You are completely wrong. For me, a professional author is someone who can earn a living through full-time writing. Doesn't matter if its web or normal paperback book. You accuse me of being bad at words but it's you who don't know basic terminology. It's useless to argue with someone who doesn't even respect authors. Are we supposed to write 10h a day for the whole month and earn only 200$??? That's 1,5$ per hour. Who would work for 1,5$ an hour???? Maybe you work like that? Or maybe you want authors to write for free? Honestly, the words you said were really retarded.

Piokilek I can understand that you want to make more profit but defending a system which's hurting his customers won't do good. I'm not saying that the Privilege system is a bad one, but it is clearly flawed. I'm pretty sure that the main reason for such high price to access to those stockpiled chapters is because the translators/writers want to get something more substantial than what they've been given so far. Don't you think that WN taking 50% of the paid SS is the issue that must be addressed first so you writers/translators can get what you deserve for the work you are doing?

I mean, we obviously don't know how high are the cost of WN to maintain the service & all, but I'm pretty sure that they get a huge profit every month.

healiha No, the concept is good but it needs some polishing. Not defending everything bad that happened. I also think the prices were too high. Also, translators don't earn anything from those advance chapters. Everything goes to the Chinese author. Translators are paid per chapter, flat fee.

meh best way is to just read normally released chapters n ignore the privileged chapters. Unless one day all chapters go behind the pay wall -____-

Piokilek Translators don't get anything from the Privilege fees and everything goes to the Chinese author? That's even worse and you're still supporting this?

The original Chinese novels that are being translated here are either already completed or at least hundreds of chapters ahead from the translated versions. These are the so-called "stockpiled" chapters. It's not like the authors have to do some special efforts in making them available, because they've already written them, and I'm assuming, they're also paid the royalty fees. The ones that still have to work hard to provide these -stockpiled- chapters to the international audience are the translators. So why aren't they getting a cut as well, and only the authors? And you're saying this is not a bad system?

Dudu_the_3rd This "feature" has actually been requested by several others already. Let's see if WN accepts that feedback and implements it for the sake of their esteemed customers.

                CKtalon
If the privilege is purchased, let’s say the 50chapters ahead, does that mean I do not get anymore new chapters til a month later?

Also, does privilege mean that readers of translated novels do not get mass releases for novels anymore, so only original contracted novels get mass releases every TGIF?

man oh man..... i only seem to keep coming back here whenever something happens.... its usually something that sparks some serious debates... at this point im just here to learn how many different ways that QI will use to milk money off this site... heck im not even here to read anymore, its becoming something to learn from at this point

                  I Will copy this here...

Why webnovel simply implements a system that the author or translator has the ability to put their novels blocked but must meet certain requirements. Obviously author/translator will get 50% of the profit.

This system can have various option:
                  1) Continue with the current system using spirit stones to read chapters; (if you want to buy SS when you don't have it)
                  2) The other would be to use the current system of privileges to read advanced chapters but not with the current price they are offering; (but most guaranty that every month translator/author will have stockpiled. I don't like this system but there are crazy readers that like to read ahead)
                  3) The other system would be elite paying a monthly to read for a whole month or even year;
                  4) The other option would be that webnovel sell to users the book in paper but by volume.(I mean like those in Amason)

We know that some novels here have more than 1000+ chapters(translate novel) and are divided into volumes.
Why not divide the stories into books and sell them with covers at a comfortable price. Of course, all these systems must guarantee the quality of the service; as the quality of the novel.

The author and translator can benefit with those option I think...

I listed those systems but to be integrated with one whole system and you choose the option you want.

                  Sorry for the bad English.

Piokilek Well... actually you did defend it. Even saying as a professional author that your readers would gladly pay for this privilege besides the gifts you recieve and the price of your normal chapters. So I ask you. As a contracted author to webnovel. Would you withhold 50+ chapters instead of releasing them for your readers in order to stockpile enough chapters to participate in the privilege system if given the opportunity? Of given that opportunity would it not interfere in your release rate or bonus chapters? As an author contracted to webnovel do you believe is really a privilege to the readers to pay 10x the value of a normal chapter to know the title and have the possibility to unlock a chapter? Are you defending this system because you think it is not a scam or because as a contracted author you hope one day get to this system and have the opportunity to earn the equivalent of 10x the actual price of your novel chapters since as a author and not a translator part of that would go to you?

CKtalon does this point #4 mean if i am currently on ch 50 and the novel has already released 1006ch out of which premium starts at 150. And previlage shows 50 stockpiled ch max and 5 minimum. So if i choose the one with minimum and then unlock 1 ch then the ch from 150 to 1006 will also be unlocked freely as they were a part of regularly scheduled chapters?

krustynobb with that much ss, u shouldn't pay again to unlock. i guess it's better to wait. this idea was kinda great but turned stupid after seeing this.

And now regular daily chapter for Supreme Uprising is still behind privilege.
