Looking at the current translation scene, if you go outside of Qidian, with the exception of Wuxiaworld, everything else is terrible. I do think Qidian has spoiled us way too much that all of you have forgotten our roots.

A few years back, only Wuxiaworld and Translation nation were providing stable releases. It was the rivalry of Coiling Dragon and Stellar Translation where you see fans arguing which novel is better. Outside those novels, there are only only a select few which barely has 5 chapters a week, and that even depends on how much those translators receive.

Now, let’s head to 2 years back. It was the blooming of the translation scene. I remember the first massive release of 50 chapters (?) from deceptioning of Chaotic Sword God. That’s when I got addicted to novels. At that time, we have new translators dreaming big, saying they want to practice their Chinese, saying they want to provide fan translation for everyone, and saying they want to earn money. A lot of novels acquired a regular release rate, but very few have ever passed the 10 a week. Peerless Martial God did, but eventually, totally insane burned out, causing an outrage after a few months of unstable releases.

Anyways, at that time, Qidian wasn’t here at all. And you know what, less than 10 percent of the novels have an actual consistent release rate. Do you know what that means? Among the majority of novels, most of the novels go less than 7 a week, and they will only provide more chapters if you donate with sky high price with a minimum of 50 usd. Really? And you say QI is greedy?

Anyways, back to today. When Qidian arrived, the novel pool gradually increased. QI now have more than 100+ novels, and majority of them with a consistent release rate. (RIP trafford, village girl, and a sorceror’s journey). But then in this majority with consistent release rate, you get 10s of novels that does 10+ a week. Now, if you look outside of QI, will you see anything like that other than Wuxiaworld? Heck, not even all of wuxiaworld novels have “consistent release”. And you have to pay what, 70 usd for a bonus chapter? FFS.

Now, QI is asking for like >10 usd a month to read more than 7 a week, and you can even get some for free. You get like 100+ chapters for 10 usd, but you get one fucking chapter for 50 usd or more in other sites. Are you guys serious?

Qidian’s a failure in PR, but data don’t lie. Facts don’t lie. What you see in the entire translation scene don’t lie. Qidian gave us way too much chapters, and now they demand something back for a meager amount, and you guys go ape shit and say “what the fuck qidian!”

It’s tiring to see you guys being haters. I love the translation scene, I’m addicted to KR novels in wuxiaworld, I read most of the novels in Volare and gravity in my free time, but dude, you can’t deny Qidian is giving out the most content for an almost nonexistent amount, and you can even get them for free as long as you wait!

I’m not saying Qidian is the almighty, but please do some comparisons and do some research. Look at what the industry is practicing and ask yourselves whether Qidian is as bad as what you guys say.

    +2
Yep, consistent release. Nice n easy app/web. Good translation.
I think its quite cheap (i havent pay any to Qi, but i still can read the other).
If u use patreon, thats even more expensive. But yeah, no pa(y)in no gain

Why are you caring about past? Live in present. I respect Qidan however by just releasing new novels every month with somewhat good quality if Qidan thinks it's doing a good job I don't think so. The reasons are many but best reason will be not willing to complete any novels. There are novels over 2000 however with 2 or 3 years which novel Qidan hasnot finished not even novels with less than 1k chapters.

NewCultivator We care about the past because we want to go back on our roots. We want to see what improved, and what is positive in all these negative. With QI's release rate, most of their novels will be completed within the next 5 years. Also, if you go over the forums, one of their staff members talked about "Qidian not forcing new translators to specific novels". New translators are hard to come by, and what's even harder are translators willing to work on dropped projects. They are making a move, translators are not cabbages. In the entire translation scene, how many are the translators who has a consistent daily release and don't drop their novels if it isn't popular? Please, broaden your horizons. We already have lots of novels, and given time, all of these will eventually be finished. As for those dropped or on hiatus, maybe one day, translators will be find the desire to work on them. As long as QI don't put the slave treatment to their tls and force them to specific series, then all is good. Of course, I'd love if translators confirm me whether they are given a choice though

+3 so meaning, among the comparison of the others, qidian gives more lets say it is more reliable and more convenient to those who appreciate its changes and updates. Well, as for now, lets wait more for the outcome.

Darnsky I just want to point out that other translators want 50$ from everybody collectively, while at QI you pay on an individual basis. So your math doesn't really work until we know how much people are actually spending here.

Klepar In Patreon, translators always give readers few more tiers which decides how many advanced chapters could be read. If u want 100 chs in advance, I guess you need to get top tier which is normally around 150-200 USD. Frankly, our model is way cheaper than what Patreon model provided.

WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL I'm not complaining or anything, just pointing out that OP's claims were unsupported.
I think when he was talking about 50$, it was for releasing a bonus chapter for everyone, not only for Patreon readers, like Starve currently does with The Records of the Human Emperor.

Klepar That's direct donation, that's like what's being done in Wuxiaworld before patreon existed. Now, those same donators are in patreon, spending 50+ bucks for less than 50 chapters in advance. That's what I think op is talking about.

                Arch He specifically stated:

Darnsky 70 usd for a bonus chapter

Note the singular "chapter", so I'm pretty sure he is not talking about being ahead on patreon, but specifically about public releases.

Darnsky Well I wouldn't say there absolutely no other companies that are good besides ww and webnovel.com in the translation scene. I like Yen Press as a translator quite a bit. J Novel Club isn't so bad either mostly the content is kinda niche haha. Seven seas dies a nice job of it and so does viz media.

shelwyn Yenpress are assholes through and through. "Quit or we sue." Then proceeds to block everything unless you pay. Once there was a time when JP was more popular than CN, but what now...

Darnsky Yes, we are given a list to choose from. We are not forced to take on certain titles because they are dropped. Our boss understand that we have our preference and allow us to pick a title we like within a specific list.
