Si es cierto que varias de las personas de la app son usuarios que utilizaban las ss gratos para leer (yo incluido), y nunca he pagado por las ss porque primero no hay plata 
, y segundo el cambio de moneda es 1=7, si ya de por si hay gente quejándose por lo que hay que pagar, imagínense a las personas que en el país de donde viven el cambio es igual o peor al que tengo yo....
No se que tan grande es la comunidad de lectores latinoamericanos en la aplicación pero probablemente varias se empiecen a ir, obviamente dejando de lado las que si pueden pagar

Vjum that’s actually how I found webnovel. I was binge reading multiple novels a couple years ago, then a lot of translators put up notices that they are getting threatened with dmca or got offered ‘partnership’ with webnovel.

Vinicius_Almeida it's just that we (many of us) aren't happy with new change .. everyone want the old game back. I do read 4 novels's chapters every day as it release and bcz I had 15-20 days break from Webnovel I had some savings of spirit stones. And also they are giving 60% off in stones charge to unlock the chapters. But now bcz it changed I won't be able to read my regular novels

MummyMumh I don’t think they have any gimmicks to earn free reading on their original reading sites in China. I think it’s completely pay to read.
If you’re using their app daily sign in gives you 50”ss” and multiplier gives you additional 20ss, continuous 7 days sign in give you 50-70? I’m not sure. Ss is super cheap too, $0.99= 600ss and premium chapters costing average 7-16ss, of course it depends on word count. VIP membership per month barely cost $1.99. And yeah they have a lot of features that screams “money” but you could chose not to unless you really want to support the author but you would still get to read.
That’s why I’m shock how much pricey WN is compared to Qidian.

This free you claim users get is actually their share of ad revenues generated from ads so be real when you talk about the "favors" Webnovel is providing.
On the other hand, having little to no consideration for its users is what Qidian, and by default Webnovel, is known for so I am not sure why users end up so shocked to find it is run by liars who think nothing of honoring anything they promise.

Another problem with no more free SS/coins is the gift system. This is also a bit of a hit at authors too as they will get a lot less gifts. Don't think many of you have thought of this.

Free SS didn't generate any revenues for them anyway. Only paid SS counted.
The gifts they received, if you sent those gifts to them by means of free SS, well, sorry to break it to you, but they didn't get anything from those free gifts. The only ones benefitting from the free gifts were the free readers themselves, as at least they were getting more free SS from sending gifts with free SS. But the authors/translators didn't get anything. Nada.
So the new coins system, as well as fast pass, don't really make any difference to them. In a way, it can even be considered better for them because now they at least know for sure that the gifts that they will be receiving come from paid coins, which means real income for them.
Sucks for those who only rely on freebies to read, but as far as I can see, this is actually an improvement for the content contributors.

Ad revenue. Everyone was watching at least 2 videos a day. And add the banner ads we get while reading yhansk to that golden sack thing. Also,. I'm sure just having a lot of readers was profitable for the company.
And you know, you can find this stuff somewhere or the other on the net. These guys are pushing the non-paying readers to those sources.

Change can be for good and for evil. Change like this, whilst sad for poor peeps like me, is a good sign of growth.
As I've said somewhere else. I'm actually relieved WN is taking a chance to better themselves (to the best of their abilities at the given moment) and evolve from being a story sharing user site to a fiction/book provider.
Still... my coins. They go so quickly... :crying_cat_face:

The ads didn't generate them enough money to sustain their business.
CKtalon Ads do not generate 5 SS worth of revenue. They generate about 0.25-0.5 SS each. Before Premium was introduced, it was using ads for revenue, and it was sorely insufficient to pay authors, translators, editors, and the publisher.
Cantiara I wasn't around when they first introduced premium chapters, so I can't say much about their reasoning behind it. And I didn't mean to barge in your convo, but I couldn't help but say something when I read the part of your post about WN renegotiating with advertisers because they should be paid more for those ads. Yeah, sorry, I could be meddlesome like that.
Well, the thing is, what you wrote, it doesn't work like that. WN, in this case, is just one of the many host partners of Google Adsense service. How it works is basically, advertisers pay Google to run ads on the Adsense network, then WN applied to become a part of that network (which is not a simple thing, you need to be eligible and approved by Google first), and then once they became a part of Google Adsense network, they get an ad code from Google and place it on their site/app. Then Google pays WN when those ads appear on their site/app.
So WN can't renegotiate with those advertisers directly, there were never any initial negotiations with them, to begin with. And no, they can't negotiate with Google either, because, well, I'm not gonna call Google a tyrant, because tyrant is a strong word, and we all do benefit from a lot of things that Google gives us, but they are one of the biggest players in the tech world, and so, if you're using their service, instead of negotiating with Google, you'll have to conform with their standards instead.
As far as I know, if you're a host partner, how much revenue generated by these ads depends on two things. Per Click and Per Action. Per Click is the most common type, WN gets paid every time we, readers, click and view the ads they're showing on their site/app. But this doesn't really generate a significant amount of money. The other type, Per Action is the one that generates more money. WN gets paid when we actually perform an action after viewing those videos, like downloading those games advertised in the multiplier videos, etc, because the action provides a direct benefit to the advertiser. But not many people do that if any at all. Well, I, at least, don't.
So, just like CKtalon said, and he must have calculated those numbers or gotten the data from a reliable source, the ads don't generate sufficient revenues to pay the content contributors here. I think the premium chapters would generate enough income if the ratio of paying readers is greater to non-paying readers, and I'm assuming it isn't. That's why they introduced Privilege to give their content contributors more incentives to do their work well.
So, the revenue that WN gets from a user clicking an advertisement and watching it is much much less than the cost of a chapter, which costs 4-7 SS/Coins on average.

Reinesse I think it's not applicable to novels under privilege w/c is the one I'm reading now. So this fast pass is not good. I have to let go of this app

I absolutely agree. I saved up a month for 250 priviledge and it's wasting because the fast passes DON'T FCKING WORK ON THEM AT ALL! I HAVE 23 DAYS OF PRIVILEGE WASTING AWAY FOR NOTHING. I have no coins left and there's no way to earn them. I'm so angry, it's a waste of my time to even bother with the app now. At this rate it'll take me almost 2 years just to finish one novel. What kind of bullsht is that?! It's even more annoying that they removed the cheaper options for paying for ss. The £0.89 and £2.59 are gone. I could afford this because it was easy to save up for them, but now they've taken that away and now they are trying to rip you off by making you pay £5.00 for 250 ss + 15, that is literal daylight robbery. I think webnovel has served its purpose for now, the new system sucks a**.
I am so disappointed. The new app is worse.

I’ve been buying spirit stones and I will complain about the new iodate too, plus reading qidian has become more and more expensive. Maybe I should just join the pirates sites and read there instead.
They want us to pay and that is fair. However it is too expensive 4/5 chapters of some novels is the price off a book a book that i take 5h to read intead of 4/5 chapters that takes me 45min.
So i use my money in books not here because it isn't worthwhile. Ss coin and any change they make that doesn't make me think spending here is worth won't increase profits.

Veronica8 I'd probably accept it a little more, if they didn't do this right after adding premium chapters, not being able to use fast pass means unless i pay more; the 20$ usd that it cost me is kind of wasted. 
PapaReaper Yeah. Their timing sucks. It didn't allow us to sink in changes. It was like, bang-bang, here you go now deal with it. It's good they're aware that they suck at communicating their changes.
I think if they were going to do something like Fast Pass. As I've said somewhere else. It would've gone better if they dropped the coin prices on some of their popular premium books. At least for a grace period to allow the Fast Pass system and all new freebie rules to settle in.

Not only were the coins decreased/replaced in the rewards with fast pass, you also limited the amount of novels we can read by relying on free coins/stones 
What really disappoints me about these new updates is that WN didn't even consider their more younger users who are still in school and can't earn any noticable amount of money like me. I'm 15 and obviously still in school so I can't just drop out and start working just so that I can pay for more coins, of course I could get a part time job but how much would a student earn a month? Not very much. They didn't even think about us whilst making all these updates and only cared about the profit, not if whether or not these updates would/could be used by users of all ages. They can't really expect students to be able to afford monthly/weekly purchases if coins did they?

Rei_00 Yeah, Webnovel is very pricey compared to Qidian in China. I think it’s because they have a huge market, like China’s population is the largest in world like 1 billion plus, so the SS would be a lot cheaper. So it’s very affordable for their population and so the people don’t mind paying for it. Most of their profits are from probably from the latest chapters which would be exclusive to their site until it gets pirated, then physically published books for devoted fans. I think these IP businesses in Asia almost factor in loss to piracy. Secondly, the cost of labour in China is much cheaper than what they would be paying for hiring translators from the western world.
