  • Questions for webnovel from a paying reader

@ReachZhaiTW @dapenggaofei

I don't know if you are the people in charge of this, if not please send my message to the person in charge.

  • What is the reason for removing the 30% bonus coins on purchases? And why some people have a 100% bonus on purchase while I have 0%?
  • What is the reason for not allowing to use fast passes on privileged chapters since you already need to pay a huge amount of coins to get privilege anyway, why hurting your paying readers?
  • Can we still expect to receive the 35% rebate from premium expenditures?

Overall, why are you damaging the paying readers experience? I was spending 50€ a month to follow 3 novels, I had premium on all 3, and now with all the changes you made I won't be able to get what I was getting before for 50€, so I'm considering not paying at all anymore. You'll have to explain to the authors and translators why their incomes are decreasing because I won't be the only one you can be sure of that.

Khana I hate to break it to you
But those bonus SS they gave during purchase SS never gave anything to the author. They were considered free SS. 😅 So the reason why it was removed was normal.

XOMatsumaeohana But they'll stop paying for spirit stones all together, I think you're the one who got the wrong picture.

In my understanding to this, Newly created accounts either you registered with Facebook/Google/Webnovel Regestration Gives a One-Time Bonus Coins with a purchase; which is 100%! 2x you would receive of the amount given. Sometimes Webnovel host an event that gives extra purchased coins which is for a limited time. this can range from any percentage, decided by Webnovel.

Regarding bullet points 1&2, it's honestly a tricky situation. IMHO, they have been giving too much free SS from which a lot of readers had exhaustively benefitted. One could just stock up free SS to "purchase" Privilege (up to 1300 SS, no problem), which was really at cross purposes with the initial point of the service.

And to put it really bluntly, and I know I may sound snooty and get flamed by saying this, but anyway, here goes...

Privilege, as the name suggests, has always been aimed for the privileged ones, or as per everyone else's term here; the whales. If one is privileged enough to be able to purchase the service, then one is privileged enough to afford the coins in order to unlock those chapters.

But, in a way, I think that the removal of bonus coins is a good thing for paying readers. Most paying readers will have to decrease the amount of novels that they can follow per month. Sucks? Maybe. A bit. But it also means paying readers would become even more selective with the novels they're picking up, which will lead to a competition (a healthy one I hope?) between the contracted authors (maybe translators too? not sure), which would only mean better quality reads for paying readers. After all, who would want to spend their purchased coins on mediocre quality novels? I certainly wouldn't. So, authors couldn't afford spewing mediocre quality novels like before anymore.

          Just my 2 cents.

Except bonus coins from purchase are not for free readers, since they come from, well, a purchase.
And privilege is now truly limited to paying readers as you cannot get coins for free anymore.
And no it won't lead to a more healthy competition, it will lead to the end of the less "hype" novels to the profit of the more "hyped" ones, which might be a good thing for originals, but is a disaster to the translated ones as some novels have few readers and really depend on premium to keep the translation going.
And as I said, I paid 50€ a month for 3 novels privilege, if 50€ per month is still not enough for greedian then I might as well make 3 accounts and read everything for free, why paying 50€ a month if I get no advantages compared to plebians using fast passes?
Overall why would they make coins even more expensive than they already were? The goal is to convert free readers into paying ones, not the opposite, so make it more attractive to pay otherwise that won't happen.

              Khana

              1. I didn't say only free readers benefitted from the free SS
              2. Did you know that the privilege service fees are not set up by WN but by authors/translators themselves?

                Cantiara
I asked starvecleric about it a few days ago (translator of LoHP) he said that it's qidian who chose the price for the privilege.
So it might be the case for originals but I don't think it's the case for translated novels

                  Khana

                  Ok, my bad, I wasn't up-to-date.

I just found out that it was changed. Content contributors used to set the price, but WN actually lowered the prices and dropped the max amount of chapters that a content contributor can put up in the highest tier of the privilege service (from 50 to 20). So, in a way, WN actually helps lower the privilege prices. If it was up to the content contributors they would offer a max amount of 100 chapters for a much higher price.

But anyway, I get your point for translated novels.

Khana he said that it's qidian who chose the price for the privilege.

TIL. How much (coins) LoHP’s highest privilege costs?

Khana Depends which novels. Romance novels don't cost that much. Average 5-7 coins.

I'm talking about LoHP, I'm also premium for super Gene and chapters are usually ~6ss each

                        Cantiara yes thanks

Khana And those chapters are 12/16ss each. But they are long and well translated so it's all good on that.

Well that’s what I call cheap. With that average chapter length and base on it’s popularity here in WN, I expect at least a 2000+ for that 20chs
