The amount of revenue brought by the ads is not nearly enough to pay down the costs of maintaining the site, paying the wages of the official employes nor the fair share for the authors.

No, the past system of free ss was too generous and was changed to the current one. But we don't know what future might bring so just stay tuned and watch for the news from webnovel. We, the authors, are just as clueless about the future as everyone else.

Bonus coins do expire 30 days after acquiring them, the ones you get from pucharse do so in 90 days I recall, but head to Yueyi posts for confirmation. Coins directly bought with money never expire. I guess the coints that expired were the bonus one you obtained about a month ago.
Lower price for the coins as long as you log in daily to get the daily rewards.

MotivatedSloth I've been following up with you and @ace_cap conversation and I get why you're pained, you're an author but you also have to look at it from the angle of those who don't have the money or the means to keep up with the recent demands made by webnovel. I admit to being a part of the "freeloaders" but it isn't by choice as everyone wants to support their favorite author(s) if possible. Just calm down

the upgrade is so buggy. In ss i can open many chapters in a day. In fast pass i only get a few so my reading time reduces. Its really annoying plus the bonus videos doesnt load most of the time. I guess thats one of the bugs. I dont like it

No. They are not giving it as a reward. Bonus coins always had an expiration date. Don't ask me why, thats how they worked so far and they just keep the system.

Ah, as you might see from my recent posts, I managed to calm myself down. I'm not going to put up with their obnoxious attitude.
As for the problem at hand, I'm a free reader as well. Never bought a single coin, even though I can afford it. Do you know what I'm doing? I'm enjoying all the reading I can with free passess. Maybe if I will have enough free time on hand to read something else outside those few novels that I follow, I might consider buying. Thats how real life works.
As an author, I simply preffered to spedn 100$ on mechanical keyboard that will enable me to write even more with less pain, as speedwriting for 8 hours straight can get your hands quite a bit.

You should ask some better versed in this, but I myself I'm sure that all the spirit stones that I got as a free user were expiring. It's just that I was using them faster than they could expire.
But as I said, it's better ask someone else on this point. I can only say from the limited perspective of someone who was here for like two years in total. (If you can check exactly when did RtW migrate here, you can get the exact date when I joined)

MotivatedSloth i am not doubting on you... But this new thing about expiring coins was definitely not there before this fast pass system... I also have been using this for very long time time not 2 years but a year I guess and I have been saving my SS/coins for very long time and I did even saved them up to the last month but not anymore... So this expire thing is definitely from the new version ... Well we can't do anything about though.. and also there no use to ask someone about it as no one is going to get me back my coins now...

Jeshmin It's not new. I've been here since July 2018, and they have always expired for me b/c I never used them. Whatever SS/coins you claim that have never expired for you can't be real. (It could be as a result of your usage of them despite saving them up so that the ones who are about to expire get used, since each one expires in 30 days, unless you don't read weekly/monthly)
Here is an entire thread of proof that SS expired since a long time ago (I'm pretty sure since the start of this currency). This thread has proof from all the way in February 2018. Expiry notifications may be a new thing (but not too new either, they have been there months before the current update) -- I can't recall if they used to have them in 2018 or not-- but SS/coins have always expired.
