Addressing Your Complaints (Coins, Fast Passes, etc.)
DevilsMocktail I'm not bored enough to look 3 years back in financials (if they even exist that far back) to see whether this is true or not, but I believe the royalty structure for Chinese authors was 50/50. I suppose if you plot the revenue stream that most of the growth post 2016 should be due to the international segment. If you do look into it, let me know what you find. I know that they use(d) a similar SS/coin scheme on their Chinese platform, but the price after currency conversion is about 10-20x less. I'm absolutely certain you can find every novel in Chinese free quite easily, but are you sure they're not pirated versions? Also, the majority of novels on Webnovel are currently free as well; most aren't very popular (or readable in some cases).
KoraL i'm taking about official qidian, the Chinese version of this site, - most of the novels are free there
DevilsMocktail and with mtl you can read them with nearly the same quality wn translates them.
What nonsense. Some translated novels here may have a way below par translation quality, but to generalize, stating that they all have the same quality as MTL is a libel against all the other hardworking translators/editors who produce decent works here.
Yeah, a lot of their end products may still be subpar compared to traditionally published books that have gone through several phases of rigorous editing before they are put on the market. But which web novels' translators/editors could afford the same kind of luxury when most of their readers demand that they work as fast as lightning, the faster, the better, because readers want an average release rate of at least two chapters a day plus a mass release every weekend? In a sense, they are expected to work like a machine, and hence the subpar quality.
But as I said before, to say that their works are at the same level as MTL isn't true. Maybe a few, but definitely not enough to generalize. And there are even a select few that have excellent translation quality that are just a little under par to the level of traditionally published books which, again, have gone through several rounds of quality check.
Cantiara for this reason, I do have a few translation groups that I notice. I think Atlas Studios is near the top of my list while EFT sits close to the bottom. For many, I won't even bother to remember who is responsible for butchering language. Although if they do produce excessive amounts of garbage, I may take care to remember to avoid them.
I purchase the membership that gives me 10coins a day but why is it I only received 5coins instead of 10coins???

Unstickied (for now). If mass complaints rise up again, will sticky once more.
yaoyueyi Question. The free coins for reading have been replaced by free points gor reading. These points are to be exchanged for passes in the store. The store has been out of stock of about everything at least days before the new update. So is it a bug or not that the new feature actually reduces the free coins yet gives nothing but pretty words in exchange.
When will the stock be renewed? Bug or not this is a real comlpain that needs to be adressed.
MotivatedSloth Because quality matters more than quantity. It always has and always will. The primary reason your average web novel chapter is so wordy is useless filler. I do not need a summary every other paragraph nor does adding status updates aidbrhe story. If you must add a status update, then only add what changed rather than a full status screen.

Cantiara Don't know MTL, but MOST translations on WN are horrid. It isn't an exaggeration and even those go premium.
If you din't want readers clamorimg for faster chapters, then publish by the book not the chapter.

The OP I responded to claimed that all WN's translation works have the same level as MTL. Which is not true. You said yourself you don't know MTL. So, what's your point?
News flash, that's the very concept of web novels. Serialization. It is designed for authors to publish their stories per chapter. It's like a long-running soap opera on TV or a long-running anime/manga series. They're bound to have fillers. The point is, web novels are not the same as traditionally published books. If you don't like the idea of paying per chapter, then this is not the kind of entertainment for you. By all means, go buy a complete book. There are enough of those at your local book stores.
NightGale35 I can't answer your question. I am not a part of WN staff, so I have no knowledge or influence over their decisions. It's not a bug though. I am only a programmed robot moderator. :robot: beep bop
Cantiara My point was that there is zero quality control. If I am expected to pay, I expect to be able to READ the content I am paying for. It does not matter if some of the content is readable, it all should be.
Please note that I am referring to translation quality only. Writing quality depends on personal and cultural tastes.
As for web novel serialization...it is designed to bring steady income to the writer over the course of the novel. That is it. It has always cost morenin the long run, but not until 3rd parties get involved (i.e. Qidian) did it become exorbitantly so. As for fillers...there is never a good excuse for filler chapters.

My problem with this is the constant direction this system is moving towards. if the last system was the first system this would be so bad but webnovel is constantly getting rid of systems that helped readers save money.
- They got rid of the system were only the latest chapters cost ss.
- They got rid of the ability to watch ads for chapters. It was slightly inconvenient but it allowed you to provide for authors by watching afew ads and still got to enjoy the content.
- They got rid of the first memberships. I realise this system was unrealistic but I was still sad to see it go.
- They got rid of coin/ss rewards with fast expiring fp. I am not so sure about your comment about getting more reading but why should I be happy about the reward I was guaranteed to have being replaced with a quickly expiring lesser version of itself that if I want to binge a significant number of chapters requires a significant amount of planning.
- replaced reading rewards with essentially unspendable points. This is the most annoying and insulting example in the bunch. This was a reward for literally spending up to 16 hours a week on this app and presumably spending significant amount of time and money on this app. It was nice to see my loyalty rewarded with more content but it was replaced with such an unusable system it was insulting. It seems like you are getting a lot of stuff because they give you a significant amount of points until you realize that the cheapest item is like 500 points and then to make matters worse the made what you can purchase with it limited commodities. This is an app that deals with data not physical objects that you have to produce so the limited supply of purchasable products is just insulting. They are just trying to make artificial demand. Finally with the price of the things they are selling, even if I did manage to get their limited stock I am still down like half a dozen chapters a week.
Also I would like to bring up that how you refer to readers is also a little insulting. For many people on this website reading is their primary hobby and it is not unusual for them to read for hours at a time if they are free. On a free Saturday with nothing to I can read a couple dozen chapters in a day. For us it is not unlike bingeing a TV show on Netflix. We are purchasing a product it is kind of bad for someone who supports a system to blatently insult their most loyal customers(the most prolific readers).
As a final point I would like to talk a little about the communities use of free sites. Most of the people using this app are not using it out of convience, we are going out of our way to use an app that we know can give support to the authors we love to read. But from the perspective of the online community it was kinda like getting convinced to buy bottled water after years of going to a free water fountains. Sure the water fountain probably had some hygiene issue but we were used to it after many years but after we switched to bottled water the salesman kept making negative changes. The bottle kept getting smaller for the same price (slowly phasing out anything free), the "buy 10 get 1 free" became "buy 20 get 1 free" (reading rewards), and they had sales but they were only for 5 customers at some unspecified time of day (points). There are even people out their saying the water in the water bottles is from the water fountain (multiple free translations have accused webnovel of just copying their translation word for word) and some people saying that the water is even worse (many have complained about low quality translations). When the business keeps treating the customer worse and worse you can't just yell at them for looking at the water fountain by telling them it will make them unhygienic (immoral) if they drink from it. Today society is filled with such immorality in the forms of pirated music, TV show, and movies. Society has gotten used to finding all of this stuff on YouTube and other less reputable sites and I am sure you are no exception. For us readers just being on this site is a good deed stop punishing us for it and then standing on your high horse to lecture us when we miss the free sites.
dragonkil331 I barely get on here anymore to read since I can only read like a chapter a day for a single novel. I've actually gone back to my old reading sites. I'd rather use the web browser on my phone to read than this app, as I can read more on other sites. The stories tend to have better grammar also, with decent and helpful reviews.
It's funny that you say you get more chapters with the fast passes but that is just incorrect, you get 50% less with the fast passes, one because you no longer give extra regards for watching the ad after you claim your fast pass each day as you did with stones/coins which on average would give you 8 stones/coins extra. Second, you decided that all chapters have equal value under a fast pass, now the novels that I had read for 8 stones/coins when they came out became even shorter but cost as much as a 15-20 stone/coins chapter stone chapter. If anything 50% less is generous its more like 80% less in most scenarios.
Biting the hand that feeds you web novel is not the correct choice, you will regret these anti-consumer actions, starting with me, I will no longer support you, the 27 people I have told to sign up for your website because they like novels and like supporting authors will no longer support you and the almost 100 friends they told will no longer support you. Goodbye web novel, I hope your company finds that the pit they have dug themselves into is big enough to be your companies tomb.
For any readers that have read up to this point and assuming this isn't taken down for libel like every review 3 stars and below-
Do Not Watch The Bonus Ad, web novel makes a shit ton of money off you watching those ads and you don't even get anything from watching them anymore, you get literally NOTHING from watching them, Do NOT Waste YOUR Time.
yaoyueyi I didn't really use it before it changed but my major complaint t is the filler. Lost count how many supposedly new novels are released and dropped with under a dozen chapters. That is not a fucking novel. Also how many are getting 5 stars even if when you read the novel and or reviews it's clear that its shit and wouldn't get 5 stars
