First of all, I can't really say that I'm a writer, or at least I'm not like any other typical writers you can find in this society, I'm very different from them, in which sometimes people will say that I'm not qualified as a writer.

At here, I'm going to clarify a few points of me that is different from other writers.

  1. I can't and would not write more than two chapters in a week.

I need more times to think of ideas and plots for a chapter, one day is certainly not enough. It's not like I can't figure out anything in short time, just those rushed ideas will be quite plain, messy and sometimes not making any sense. I need time to process those ideas in my brain and did research if those settings make sense or not, historical, scientifically, logically, I will try to make things fit in well although the ideas for fantasy itself is out of common logic.

Another thing is that, I need time to write. In order to convert my ideas nicely into words, I take times to write it, read it, delete it and write it again, this process continues until I'm satisfied with the results.

And then I need to read the whole thing again to make sure no major mistakes.

So, one day is not enough for me to write a chapter, which is why I only update once a week.

  1. Short chapter.

A lot of people complaining about the length of my chapter and I feels that I need to improve that as well. But there is some special condition where I purposely write it as short chapter.

Most of the time, I can actually extend my chapter 1k+ words but I didn't, because I feels that if I forcibly extended it, that chapter would not looks alright. For example, I was going write a cliffhanger at the end of a chapter, but that chapter only has 700+ words, I could extend it but if I do so, the effect will be different, which is why I choose to keep it short. And of course, I could add in 'extra words' in the middle of it which I found very easy to do, but, let me ask you a question.

Would you rather read a short chapter with sufficient of contents or a super long chapter, with wall of words but just a few of unimportant content, where all the other words are just to extend the length and quite meaningless?

  1. I like to use simple and common words

I read a lot of novels. Most of them like to a lot of flowery and deep words, which makes their works looks more 'classy' . I don't like that.

First, it will makes the readers hard to understand what you are trying to tell them. Not all of the readers are expert in language.

Second, I always believed that reading novels should be something light and fun instead of something professional and heavy. If you want to makes your readers to read such a deep content, you should just write classic literature instead.

And here is something I want to Diss about some writers. Novel aside, fanfiction. Especially fanfiction for anime and manga. Anime and manga are supposed to be fun and entertaining for different stages of age. While you are writing fanfiction for it, what is your mind when you makes it heavy and deep? The purpose of it had lost, the fun and entertaining had decreased greatly due to the deep and literature like words.

  1. My grammar is not perfect.

Yes, I always know my grammar is bad and I would not give excuses like English is not my primary language or such a thing.

Actually I had tried my best to improve it from time to time, so please bear with me.

If not... Is there anyone out there willing to be my editor for free? Haha.

That's all I guess.

    1. Take your time, as much as you need. But I would recommend a rough, very rough, draft as well (it's a draft. Put on Hemingway mode and write away. No one is gonna look at it beside you).

    2. I prefer short chapters when reading. And I prefer to keep stuff on point when writing. If something can be done in 500 words, writing 2500 words to do the same thing is a waste of time and the source of fillers.

    3. Simple is best. I can't comprehend people who use big words in their novels either. Having to search google for meaning breaks immersion. There shouldn't be a need to use a big word if there's an alternative, even if it takes a few more words. And if it is absolutely necessary to use such words, put the meaning at the end of the paragraph. But I have learned to understand through context most of the time now, so that's a plus (rolls eyes).

3.1. This is one of the major reason I avoid fan fictions altogether.

    1. As long as it isn't horrendous enough to trigger my inner editor, it's good. looking glaring at that certain book I wrote 2 years ago

being different isn't the problem but the solution, it's often a pledge of originality...

    1) everybody has his own way to work. many things will influence your publishing rate. the first is the time you can spend writing each day. if it's not a full time job, it's normal not writing thousands of words everyday. the most important factor is the number of steps you need between your first draft and the final version. i also need many steps, so 1,000 words for me is around 10 hours of hard work, with a natural "incubation time" between each step so that those 1,000 words won't be finished before days or weeks. many people can't be as productive as writing 1,500 words everyday, they just send drafts, you can see it often. your rhythm is the rhythm that fits you. if your not a professional writer under contract with the site, you just don't have to care.

    2) someone said me once, "i prefer reading 10 pages of clever content than 100 pages of bullshit". forceful addition of words in a chapter isn't interesting for the reader.

    3) your writing style is yours. like a forceful addition of content, a forceful change in the style won't be good, you can only obtain a paradic content. if the story, the general style etc. don't fit "classic literature" style, it's better to have simple and common words (mine is the opposite, but it's a constraint of my style for comedic propose).

i've never written a fanfic and don't read this kind of stories.

    4) this can be a problem, especially if english is your primary language. it's harder to read something with bad grammar and syntax, especially for people who aren't native speakers. you can ask your readers for pointers if it's really a problem. i can't help you, english isn't my primary language and too many shades in this language escape my abilities.

forthemore, i've tried to look in the search-bar with your pseudo to find your work but there are more than 2,000 answers; so it's virtually impossible to find it. if you need a feedback, can you give us the name of the book or say if you already answered to the thread about promotion.

ludo2776 His/Her pseudo is A of Artificial and I of Intelligence. AI380. The book is WAR-Destiny of future with a cover that has two stick figures. One saying huggu, the other saying nope.

AI380 one of the best authors on here uses homedrawn stickmen for his cover, so no need to feel embarrassed. Back in the day, I also used stickmen for cover. And there are many others as well. Tbh, I would prefer a book with a stickman cover over some lecherous or bland cover. Also, your cover look pretty good. Shows you are a person of culture as well.

        ( ´◡‿ゝ◡`) ( ´◡‿ゝ◡`) ( ´◡‿ゝ◡`)

Hey, we've all got different writing style. That's what makes reading more interesting.

AI380 It's okay no need to sweat it, there are authors in here just like you, including me who only finds inspiration in the writing shorter chapters, the use of less complex term and expression that are not considered deep enough. Don't let what others say pressure you, continue to do what makes you happy👌❤

Everyone has their own of writing, there's no need to do what others do. As long as it works for you and you know you create a good story, you shouldnt worry too much about others.
I just bullshit my way through my chapters and have a weird writing style but i dont mind so lol

But i think in your case a beatsheet or stepoutline would help especially when you need a lot of time to write two short chapters

          What’s a writing style? ∠( ᐛ > ∠)_

I just write whatever’s in my head. Who cares about the readers! As long as you’re satisfied with what you wrote, it’s all fine and dandy~ ╮(╯▽╰)╭

AI380 damn i relate so much in everything you just said. I feel kinda bad though because I tend to miss updates but for the life of me i can't write as fast or produce chapters as fast as a normal writer. Though, I made it a goal to write at least 1k words per chapter since thats an acceptable length for me (not too short and not too long) and the way i write is the way it flows in my mind so it's pretty much free writing with a little editing from grammarly.... 😅

I can't and would not write more than two chapters in a week.

Speaking honestly, you CAN, but you have to want to, and it takes practice and discipline, as well as proper planning. Writing is a skill that develops with effort. The harder you push yourself, the more you will progress.

Now, it sounds like you are also including editing and re-writing as part of this process as well. Personally, I recommend keeping the writing and revising processes entirely separate, and only revise once you're completely finished with a work. Not only does this save you from a lot of unneeded edits, but switching between writing and editing over and over as you work on a chapter actually severely hampers your ability to produce work quickly. Its better to write out an entire draft, then do all revisions, rather than tweak as you go.

              Short Chapters

Chapter length on here is not the same as chapter length in a real book. Having written in multiple formats, I personally find it much more efficient to break large chapters into 600-800 word chunks for chapters on here because that generates more exposure. There is nothing wrong with shorter chapters, so long as the frequency is high.

Now, you said you can only do 1-2 chapters a week. Are these chapters 700 words long? Because if so, that's 1400 words a week. That is, and I mean absolutely no offense by this, not a good writing speed. You should easily be able to hit 3500 words a week, if you write every day. If you don't mind me asking, what is your typical writing procedure? I might be able to help you find out how to improve your output.

I like to use simple and common words

Having a simple style is fine. Plenty of successful authors have done well with simple writing. Denigrating authors who use more complex language, however, is not cool.

Classic literature books are novels. Modern novels are novels. Web serials are novels. There is no difference, aside from personal taste. Hell, the classic literature of today was sometimes considered the simple, light writing of yesterday.

              My grammar is not perfect.

No one is expecting it to be. However, it is expected of a writer that they are perpetually trying to improve their grasp on it, especially if English is not their first language.

Clowniac I think you are having some misunderstanding here. I have absolutely no problem to write fast and long, my best record is 5k+ in 3 days, including re reading, correction, picture illustrations (which is not required here). So I don't think that's the major problem. And I think my example above is somewhat misleading, I usually try to maintain it at at least 1k words if possible. Although some of my chapters are quite short that I wouldn't really call it as a chapter.

Why can't I write everyday? I blame my brain, it refused to give out fresh new ideas every single day, even with a whole list of draft, it will be like. "What should I do with this?".

As for grammar, I always realised that is my biggest problem and is working hard to improve it.

While for the common/complex words, everyone have their own preferences. I don't like it doesn't mean you'll not like it as well right?

I apologise if anything in my first post sounds offensive to you. And thanks for your suggestion.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, DO I GET PAID? NO! So why should I force myself to write every day? I have my own life instead of just writing. Writing is my hobby instead carrier. Like even if your hobby is play sports, will you do it every day, every hour?

AI380 Wow, your novel shows 46 chaps a week. if you can't write fast, you should really hold the chapters and release steadily. As you said, you're not a profession and aren't getting paid. There's no need to hurry. Steady release will give you more exposure.

Demonic_angel actually I regret about that as well, I'm quite new to this place, so I have no ideas how things work. I never thought about that before until I realised some people here actually release new chapter everyday.

But since I already released it, there's no turning back. The only thing I can do is to release chapter every week on a fixed time, which I have been doing for a long time.

                    5 months later

                    AI380
                    3. Nah, although some of the authors try to be classy and go over the top, I think you might confuse authors using rare words and those authors who uses them because its the most precise word they can give. It would take about several common words to describe one rare word, its quite common on new authors actually, and reading those would only turn the narrative flat and weightless. I actually prefer the author has a writing style that is reflexive, those that uses imagery, it might be read as over the top but I think its better than flat lines that were only as dry as brick wall. Well everyone has their own writing style but Im just pointing out my preference, reading a novel that was written dryly will get boring over several pages.
