Stuff like bold and italics DO exist already in inkstone, the majority of special formatting options is however reserved for contracted authors.
Can you please add a few more tools to help Authors Write!
Pleasedeteme Why should we lack what others have?! One must always strive for the best! I think Webnovel must also get these and more if it wants to truly be a superior site!
Darth_Xiane I was thinking that they expand it for everyone! They should add things for us freelancer authors and put even greater stuff for the contracted ones. Why should we be limited? This site has to evolve.
Darth_Xiane Why? Aren’t those basic writing needs?
Pleasedeteme Only contracted novels get their chapters locked.
I believe that's part of the reasons for the author's survey
They are indeed but by the same token its incentive to get contracted so your work stands out even more is it not?
As above, it's not about site evolution it's about the fact webnovel is also a business, go figure some nicer features require them earning something too. Most online sites are the same, they give you the basic program, it works fine, but the higher end features require you to pay for them. In this case however it's just a matter of agreeing to make yourself and them money for those bells and whistles. Hardly unreasonable.

I didn't have these features in mind. Though being able to copy would be useful...
What I thought was to programm an AI that would allow you to easily edit your text. Right now I have to use grammarly for that purpouse and then copy the chapter in inkstone... There is not really a point in using inkstone directly for writting.... at least not for someone like me, who is not a native...
Another thing I thought was that it would be cool to be abe to create windows in your text. They just have to look like it. Here are so many system novels and most of them have status screens and skill lists... why not create a feature where you can make it look like a real system window in your text. right now you have to create the illusion using blankspace and that is not really cool and it is likely to be destroyed as soon as someone reads it in another format as you created it...
What I would really like to have is a pinwall, where I can write my thoughts about the novel and other people have the chance to react to those... If you want to discuss something with your readers it is hardly possible right now.
Darth_Xiane I’ll be honest with you. It takes a lot of effort to write without the use of italics when you have characters thinking. If I were to get contracted I wouldn’t want to go through the process of removing all the quotation marks to put in italics again. So there would be no difference.
Darth_Xiane That makes sense but there is just so much they could add that it's not even funny! They should at the very least add a few new features every few weeks. I am not saying they should give everything to everyone because I understand that wouldn't be profitable, I say if they add one feature for free, they add 2 for contracted authors. That way the Authors will feel the support and write better stories with the tools, eventually becoming contracted ones. The overall quality of Novels will go up and the number of good stories will also increase, everyone, wins. It's not wise for them to keep all the tools for contracted authors, for a business to advance one must first invest no?!
SuperSilentSin I love your idea!! Amazing!
Can't disagree, I'd love more options myself! But. I'd settle for existing inkstone bugs being squashed.
I understand that Webnovel is probably trying to copy as much code from Qidian as possible to make updates easier, which is why Inkstone lacks a lot of features, but they need to understand that while plain unformatted text is perfectly fine in Chinese but Anglophone readers and authors expect more.
TheCaffinated Yes, Exactly!
People have been asking for this for years. But did something happen?
No.
Don't expect too much on a clearly profit driven site, not when things are going smoothly for them. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
All of the features you want already exist in a popular writing forum that I won't name.
The fact that a forum has more powerful writing tools than a site purely dedicated to fiction is a hilarious travesty.
