  • Webnovel sent me a contract offer, should I sign it?

I am sure you would hear various opinions but you should not let others influence you easily. It doesn't matter whether the opinions would be negative or positive. Take into consideration several things. First, make sure to read the contract and understand the responsibilities - yours and these of your employer. Once you are clear with what is written - assess it. Cons and pros?

Second, evaluate your current situation. Are you unemployed? Do you consider taking novel writing as a part-time job or making it full-time? The additional cache is good but you should be sure that you can fulfill your responsibilities. Imagine you have to juggle with several things at once and feel the pressure of the quota you should be writing if you want to keep up. It can easily turn from pleasure to hell.

Third, do some research in the field. (:

What I am trying to say is, given your circumstances, supposedly you lean more to signing the contract, can you make it? Is it worth it? What can it possibly cost you?

I might make it sound a big deal but do not jump something that you are not completely clear about. Therefore, the first step is understanding the contract to its devil details.

Lucian_Valroy It depends on you. What is your goal? If you just want to be an online writer, then Webnovel is as good a place as anywhere else (provided you can maintain the daily output). However if you intend/hope to publish your story in a book format (self-publishing isn't that difficult nowadays), then don't. Webnovel would want exclusive rights to the story. Also, there might also be issues if you have a Patre*n account.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Lucian_Valroy Up to you. There have been other recent threads asking this question that might give you context. If you have questions reach out to your assigned editor.

    Agreed that there's been a lot of these lately. While WN has regularly sent out offers I suspect they've been assigned to up the quota as of late.

    Even my own novel that received a contract offer months ago, that I declined, is suddenly getting offers from WN again. From emails to Inkstone, the notification and reminder to "sign" is rather constant. For the last couple of months, I heard nothing after that first round of declination.

    I also noticed that the editors who messaged me both times are different.

    It's up you, and there's plenty of other thread/opinions. I'd just like to say watch out.
    They seem to be mass collecting contracts again and it might be easier to get lost in the influx.

    Up to yourself.

    Read it thoroughly, if needs be hop on discord and ask your assigned content editor (or any available one) for clarifications.

    Then decide what you want to do.

    Take your time, they won't withdraw the contract if you dont sign immediately. Dwell on it, ask questions on what you're not sure of then decide what's best for your situation.

        So I was writing on an app called wattpad just for fun, it was a continuation of someone else’s book(yes I had permision) and I got a messeges saying the wanted to sign a Non-exclusive contract with me? For Webnovel......does this just happen? They said they read the first few chapter I had posted and they said they like it. Should I sign it? Should I ask for a royalty contract? How big of a deal is this? I would like to stay anonymous and I don’t really care for getting paid......I don’t think I’m understanding how big of a deal this is.......how many people get offered a contract with a company!?!?!?!?

          Dear Olivia it happened to me too, I've been writing some peotry and other unfinished books yet they said they liked my style that I quite find rather lousy and lacking. And now they are asking for me to sign a contract with them, the problem is that there is no limitation date in the contract and what creeped me more is that any book I would write after this one (Rmina the one I'm writing currently) will be theirs by law

          Olivia_Tippit I know what you mean I'm 14 and was also on wattpad and they offered me the exact same thing you don't have to sign but if it means pay I can sponsor my friends up and coming company and I generally need money anyway so I'm gonna take it

            Hi! I'm thirteen and have been writing a story on Wattpad for a while. I was sent a message saying that they wanted to offer a
            non-exclusive contract for my novels currently on the site. I was wondering if that meant that they owned the book that I had written and the ones I want to write in the future. Also, how would I sign a contract? I've read a bunch of things saying that you need a contract to get payed. Would I get payed if I sign a non-exclusive contract? Again, I'm only thirteen, so I don't really need money, but I wouldn't mind it. My mom also knows that I've been writing a book for a while, but I never told her what it was called. So, I hope that I don't have to get her involved. I doubt this is that big of a deal, but I just want to make sure I know before I sign it.

              Kat_Rat I'm 12, but I have been writing a book called Angel in Love(It's about rape), and my parents don't even know I am, but my sister does know, so a couple months ago I had signed the Royal contact, and had been writing ever since I had signed it

                Ofure

                Been over a year since they offered me a contract for my book, still get a new extension of the contract every so often even though when I first refused I made my stance of non acceptance pretty clear. Starting to think like most official processes, the contract extention process is automated and very little of it is touched by human hands.

                If work_onsite == requirements
                {
                Extend offer
                Then
                Hand to editors
                }
                If contract_offer refused
                {
                Wait six months
                Then
                Return to start
                }

                😎
