WB fakes the number of views

Of course, you've probably already noticed this.

Qidian shamelessly inflates the views. For example, I found it rather suspicious when I realized that the number of "readings" indicated was more wrong than a pair of a porn actress's breasts.
If I open a chapter in a new tab, or simply update it, and check the view counter on the novel's home page, the novel gains about 20 views each time.
(Yet this figure seems rather approximate, since by opening 8 chapters of a lesbian novel, it gained +390 views).

Seriously... what kind of joke is that? A strategy so that new authors aren't discouraged and think "great! I have so many readers".
The truth? Sorry, but it's not true.

Ok guys, it's time to stop counting your dollars and start doing good things just right now. Maybe indicating the number of actual views would be a good start?

CamilleDirithyl you do realise that all stories posted here are accessible to everyone who frequent the site. So, you are not the only one who clicks a certain book. If a chapter is updated, it shows up in updates. Considering WN's traffic, there are bound to be a lot who would click the book.

Unless it is not to their preference, they will not read it and just exit from taking a glance at the cover/title/synopsis. Look at the valid reads (if you are an author). they show the people who read the story and not click it and exit.

Also, the views are only updated after certain intervals. Meaning, if you were to click a story 100x times in that window, it would only equal a single click. Stop accusing WN of something before you learn the mechanism behind it.

Also, you are not paid by views but through royalties. So, the number of views don't even matter tbh

This has always been a debated issue. However, they have tried to solve it by adding Valid Reads to Inkstone. Here you can see how many have spent more than 60 seconds reading the series.

Someone is having a problem with differentiating VIEWS from READS.
If I spot a book cover through the window of a bookstore, when I'm strolling with my fiancé, it doesn't mean I read a single page of it.
If I enter into the bookstore and touch the book, it doesn't mean I read it either.
If I open this book and glance at the first page, it doesn't even count as a read.
      These are views.
Consider the numbers of VIEWS as VIEWS. Your books reached a lot of clicks, from cats, dogs, bots, trackers, alien ghosts, mechas, and real people, too.
Go look for the VALID READS into your Inkstone for a more accurate account of actual Reads for more than 60 seconds.

Everything has been said. I would just add that a view is counted each time a chapter is opened and it can be done repeatedly (for example, if I read a story I like a second time, I'm still adding views to the total number.). Basically, it works like youtube.

As said above as well, it doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things. I would rather have them revamp their rating/reviewing system so that the authors that don't delete review and have good rating can have the attention they deserve instead of having their novel drowned amongst the trash with absurdly high rating. I've never seen a place where every content is between 4.4 and 4.9 except here. I guess we're all genius authors 🤷‍♂️
