You do not get instant pay.

What happens is that when you have signed the non-exclusive contract, your novels will have to be uploaded to the website that the companies use to sync with Webnovel and other platforms.

When you upload the novel on this website, then you have to decide whether or not the chapter should be free or paywalled. When you have decided on either free or paywalled, then you cannot change it in the future.

I personally have decided that all the novels I have released through the non-exclusive contract begins the paywall at chapter 51. Some of these novels have 2000 word chapters, others have 1000 word chapters, but even so, I have stuck to chapter 51 paywall.

The reason I personally prefer chapter 51 is due to the fact that your readers will have enough time to realize if they wish to continue reading the novel, or give up. Many more free chapters and you will lose money, but less, and people will not continue as they will not be too deeply immersed in the story. (this is purely my thoughts)

When it is uploaded, then you wait for it to be released on the platform, which can take up to a month or two, depending on the number of people who have signed contracts recently, and the platform's speed.
When the novel is uploaded, then people will be able to read.

You will be paid by the number of readers that unlock your chapters, and the cost for each chapter unlocked.

200 words = 1 coin, so 201-400 words = 2 coins and so on, the more coins used, the higher your income.

I am not sure what the revenue sharing of Webnovel and the non-exclusive contract owner is, so I cannot help you calculate exactly how much you will be paid for the coins in the non-exclusive contract.

And when do you get paid? Well if your novel were to be released in December, and it had premium (paywalled) chapters, then you would be paid in late January or early February for what you earned in December.

I hope this helped

Thank you all very much for explaining. I just signed a nonexclusive contract and wasn't sure how it worked. Now I feel like I do. Some people are saying that ShareStory is not affiliated with WebNovel and that it is a scam, but you're saying it's just taking time to get it to post once you've uploaded to ShareStory and eventually, it is posting to WebNovel, correct? Thanks so much for our help!

Sharestory is the website where you have to upload your story when you have signed a non-exclusive contract.
It is a website that is being used by EMP Publishing, and AnD Publishing, which are the two companies that make the non-exclusive contract.
EMP and AnD are not Webnovel. They are different companies, however, they have an agreement/contract with Webnovel, which allows for the novels to be hosted on Webnovel in exchange for royalty share.
They are not only working with Webnovel but also other platforms.
It is not a scam. While it is up to the individual whether or not they are willing to sign the contract, they do honor their part of the agreement. It is a legally binding document after all, so just make sure to read and understand what you sign, then it should be fine.
I just want to point out, I have been paid in a timely manner from my non-exclusive contract, and they have always been extremely polite and helpful. I would not consider it a scam.

Tinalynge Hi, You said you have been paid from your non exclusive contract so I wanna ask.
Does your novel have to earn up to $200 before you get paid?

        Whendhie1

I am not sure about that, I have not had a month where the pay was below $200. But I assume that the contract should explain how long they can hold out for, in case the transfer is too low.

Anyone knows why A&D entertainment require authors to grant them the power of attorney? What do they mean by that tho?

            5 months later

Linda_Lsc They do? Recently I just filled the form with A&D and I am currently waiting for the said Invitation via DocuSign through email. I'm just not sure how long will they take to send me the email or sumn.

Anyhow, has anyone here had done and signed a contract with A&D? (I choose Non-exclusive btw),what happens after you agree with the terms and conditions?Did you start immediately on Publishing new chapters? More importantly for Non-exclusive,is it required to out a chapter with a minimum of 1,500 words? . May I ask the possible income you get? I just need some few money for a self support for.

If anyone will respond this could be a great help for me :) thank you in advance.

I have the same question. Right now I'm uploading everyday and it is now reaching the point where I want the chapters paywalled. They keep telling me to upload to sharestory which I am, but as insurance I'm still uploading to inkstory, just so the story goes on. Thing is though I do not think the chapters are getting uploaded from sharestory. What do we do with that?

Do I need to finish the whole book before they publish it?
I am asking here as nobody is answering any of my questions.

                a year later

orphinx No. You do not need to finish the while book before they publish it. You need to upload the chapters you have accordingly to sharestory and save it first. Then if there is nothing to edit you can confirm your content and publish it. I'm not sure how long they take to publish the content on webnovel. But as I noticed it didn't take that long. Everytime I upload a new chapter to sharestory I check webnovel to see if the story is updated and it is. Make sure you 'publish' the chapters from sharestory.

I suppose I at least cleared something for you...

Lullabybao No, there are a handful of companies partnered with WebNovel for non-exclusive contracts. Webnovel even directed me to one of them when I declined an exclusive contract. I've worked with two different companies like this, and both are legitimate.

You submit your chapters through the company's Content/Copyright Management System, and after a delay, they publish those chapters. They appear under your name on Webnovel, but they aren't actually attached to your Inkstone account and you can't access any author tools for the story.

It's a giant inconvenience in many ways, such as having to pay coins for your own chapters if you want to be able to interact with comments on locked chapters.

EDIT: LOL, sorry for responding to your post. I saw this was an updated topic and didn't realize it had been necro'd. I'll leave my comment up since it's good information for new writers, though.
