I've been an avid reader of translated works for years now. I started with Anime, eventually finding myself into Manga, then reading the translated novels to continue those mangas, eventually finding webnovel/qidian's works. Back then, what we hated was monetization. Us readers thought it was ridiculously expensive (still is) but we paid. Because we paid for professional work. Fast forward to now. Summer of 2021.

What went wrong? I just went through the newest reviews on many popular translations that are ongoing. Example being 'My Senior Brother is Too Steady', 'Warrior's Promise' and other long standing works. All of the newest reviews are the same. 'After chapter ___ the translation quality took a deep dive. Genders are he/she on every character, names are messed up, etc.'

All of these reviews started coming in around September of 2020. If anyone remembers, back then, they just swapped from 60 chapter trial reads to 40 chapter trial reads. Which brings me to trial reads. Oh my, the beauties we see in trial reads now a days. They are MTLed, and edited in an attempt to westernize them. No fixes to translation, all that is changed is names, looks, places, and other common terms. Half the terms get missed anyway, making a jumbled mess of translation. I can find better quality on MACHINE TRANSLATION SITES. Webnovel, are you for real? Your 'professional' translators, are being outdone by MTL sites. And they have more chapters! At least they are consistent! Has anyone read the live streaming dragon novel in trial read this week? It's a mess! The entire thing looks like a robot verification test! Did Webnovel lay off its entire staff? What is going on??

They've done a lot of changes that I'm almost ready to leave the platform over. The dropping of the daily site-wide fast pass, the change in buying coins from PayPal and dropping the 15% bonus to just 10%, the "glitches" that happen at least once a week causing you to lose your weekly check-in bonus. It's getting to be really shady.

Xhaare I've read many translated novels here in the past. Now I'm following only two, the other few are from WW. It's better to invest in your Chinese - starting from HSK-4 you can slowly build up your vocabulary, reading some simple novels (modern) with mtl, side by side with the raw text.

It got worse look at the pilot read, lol almost all the mc name is RON, the release of the trial read got messed too it was monday first, goin longer till Thursday night, soon its gonna go to friday lol, the master works got buried too somehow i dont even know what happens anymore, i mean its ok if we need to pay but why is the quality got worse overtime?

They're secretly trying to drive us all into the arms of wux1@w0rld, which has impeccable translations and does a much better job of choosing novels. If ww can make money and provide quality translations, I don't see why wn, which has Qidian behind it, can't get their act together except for them not giving two fs and being entirely all about maximizing the coins they extract from their readers.

It's because those at the bottom of the chain care but can't do anything about it while those at the top don't give a crap as long as money keeps rolling in.

Just did a quick google search, apparently, Qidian has its HQ in China, now, I don't want to make any wild speculations, but it is possible that...

Honestly, I've been reading most Chinese novels as comedy (even if it isn't a comedy), so if it starts making even less sense, I'm probably going to enjoy it a lot more, sorry.

I agree that translations are getting worse and worse, and what's more, shorter... sure, I managed to find a couple of ok new novels, but I get ZERO happiness from reading 0.5sec the daily chapters, and a TON on irritation and frustration from waiting on something to happen only to read but a few words and no development.. I'm sick and tired of having to pause for a week or two to get enough material to read for a couple of minutes -.-

I just joined via wecomics, found a novel I like and it littered with mistakes. Oh no, this is beyond simple typo mistake (those are aplenty) rather a whole sentence is missing. How do I know this? It's because the sentence just stop half way ex: go to (and then next paragraph).

I wanted to report, but I saw there are many reports here in the forum that were just left un-reply by the staff.

I'm not sure how good this site was but as new user, the first impression ain't good. The sad thing is the story is good. I guess I'll stick around at least for this novel.

Thats how we all started too.

There's mistakes, horrible mtl, lousy customer service but we'll stick around for this book...

              ... then its that book...

... then there's one like the first...

Then three years are gone and you realize webnovel is a complete crapfest but you've invested too much to leave now...

                Darth_Xiane

i guess I have to strengthen my resolve.

Honestly it really grating, because when you pay for something you would expect certain standard of quality. In WN case you got the apposite. I never read official translation this awful. I read stuff from radish, tappy, tapas.

                  DaoistUihwDj

Over the years my standards have dropped. Sad as it is to say. I want my reads so I'll put up with the absolute horrendous quality webnovel supports. Mostly cause I'm firmly against supporting pirate sites.

I could possibly get better quality elsewhere but it wouldn't strictly be legal... tough choice. Adhere to moral standards and let quality standards drop.... or be a rat bastard and enjoy translations not scraped off the translators arse... decisions decisions...
