One advice from your older sis, when you review your novel (and surely you'll review it many times), try to pick a tense and unify the whole novel with it.
e.g.
(Don't do this): She walks out of the door, she went to the party.
(Do this): She walks out of the door then goes to the party.
(Or this): She walked out of the door and went to the party.
I'm not a native speaker so please don't think I'm flexing -not that native speaker flex LOL- I can't make everyone happy here. Just a friendly advice, take it or leave it.
