I don't know why they just don't go for a subscription base model where authors get paid by views. They could add tiers, one that grants access to basic chapters and a more expensive tier that includes premium chapters, then for authors they could add the function to gift money directly to the author with webnovel not taking a cut from the gifted money.
Half the reason people don't engage monetarily with Webnovel is because of how insanely overpriced it is, like no offense to the authors but most of these novels are not worth even a fraction of what you'll end up paying for the entire thing. If it was more reasonable more people would engage and then you'd have the benefit of a larger paying audience. As it is currently, most of Webnovels income relies on cash cows, when they could be making more from average viewers.
