I've wanted to write a story for a while now, however, I'm at a loss for what genre to write about. If somebody has something they want to see then just go ahead and say it. It's much easier for me to have something to work off of and that I'll know people will like rather than taking a shot in the dark. I'd like to produce something people will care enough about to criticize.

Oh yeah, before I go. If there's anything important that people tend to miss out on while writing these stories feel free to inform me. :)

DarkSideOfTheSpoon It's pointless to ask for such a thing. A small number of peoples opinions on the forum is pretty much insignificant. Just check the top 20 novels and you will have your answer about what the general public likes. But here is an advice, if you are solely writing to please the masses and compromise too much from your own enjoyment of creating your own story, then that story won't turn out good. And even if it does somehow turn out good and you succeed, it will always be a burden on you. You may one day be sick of it. Try not to turn writing into a chore.

Write about a prince who is unwilling to ascend the throne because......

For me it is easier to pick a story that you would like to put your own spin to it, making the story your own. Kind of like a fanfic, but different story and better direction. Better, in your point of view because you are the one who direct the story now XD

DarkSideOfTheSpoon It depends on what you like. Let's say you like Easter Fantasy, you could do a spin. Instead of some random upper realm OP guy getting reincarnated into the body of a peasant, you could swap it around. The noble pig farmer transmigrated into the body of the child of a great sect master. Also to stop the trope getting boring 40 chapters in you show the child original child (perhaps genius) life now that he has no cultivation, and can't cultivate, he doesn't retrain or become powerful, perhaps he finds love and lives a mortal's life etc etc.

find a novel or something like that you like think about the flaws of it and put your own spin on it i usually feel that takes me in decent direction
