BookGuardian excuse me, you reading translation story or original story?
If you read original story, the author is coming from many different part of this world and you can't expect they have same English knowledge
Quality control of Original and Professional Novels
BookGuardian About cliches, try to read Book of Author in this site. You will know why.
About cliche, well... This is webnovel, and here I always wonder why everyone seems to like cliche plot. I want to shamelessly promote my original, but I'm shy. Though, I guarantee the originality of the plot.
I agree with you on the quality, cliches and tropes are fine, when done correctly. Every source of media uses them, it's pretty clear to the trained eye when a cliche or trope is used badly. The problem that I see is that for one, amongst the Chinese novels, original content is rare. The market supports middlechool level writing quality, it supports the blanket plagiarism of ideas and concepts. Second, correct me if I'm wrong but the novels, especially webnovels do not have set standards and guidelines for what is permissible, authors are just writing whatever. There is no checks on quality, no system that effectively edits or allows authors to better themselves. If this keeps up poor quality novels and amateur authors will continue being the norm as they are now.
In my experience, the main problem is that most readers actually want to read exactly that kind of story. So the rest of the readers will just have to look a little closer to find the other novels that stand out. Reviews aren't really a good way to do that but that isn't only a problem here on webnovel. You'll find the same problems on Amazon, for example, just that it's not so obvious because there are just much more people reviewing so it tends to be a little better.
Total agreement there. I've scrolled through the top ranking original novels and saw about a third of them being system novels with the same cliche setting. And if it's not system novels, it's wish granting novels that top the board even if it's writing is bad. We really need more variety here. I actually suggest that we make a discussion where we can give ideas for stories and other authors can pick it up.

Eh, would you like to spend a long ass time coming up with creative ideas or use ones that are already there for you?
I personally tried to come up with a new and creative idea but there's nothing I could think of that hasn't already been used and I spent literal months just thinking(I'm not a good author but I have an amazing Imagination, it's just that I don't know how to put it in a way that works(or I forget)) about what I should do.
So I decided to take things slowly and used an idea other novels have used, tweaked it a little, and inputted into my story.
When I feel like I'm ready to come up with a new Idea, I'll try. If It doesn't work, I'll stick with the previous idea until I come up with a creative idea.
Or..some crap like that :D
SweetsTomato I read both. I'm Asian American, part Vietnamese (Although I can only speak and not write or read it, and even that is only on an average conversation level) so I understand if the grammar is off or it isn't as well constructed. I even understand some things just don't translate well, but I feel like it falls on the hands of the translate to not translate word for word, but also its feelings and flow. I don't expect master pieces, just some time killers, but having an editor run through some of these would be nice. Maybe we can have a discussion group where everyone just helps peer review or edit works together for free? Nothing professional, but its better than nothing at least.
DeJeL Can't say all of my reviews or comments have been, but theres been a number I've done here and on another account I use on my phone. I'm not really trying to crack down or oppress new authors or people writing for fun who's English isn't their strong point, I just feel like this is something people should be more conscious of, and if we could get a discussion group with people will to offer a bit of their free time every now and then to review and go over chapters and discuss with authors to make edits then we could get a lot done and help the community as a whole.
Misguided_Rooster I feel like theres still a line between cliche and classic, almost every idea has probably been done, but how you do it and the twists you put in matters, and execution is key (Also tbh I look for mindless reading every now and then, sometimes just plain fluff when I feel down, systems or reincarnation trope still hypes me up)
Eh, after a few days of cooling off, maybe I've been too harsh? I've just been irritated and frustrated with a couple novels and other stuff these days. Anyways if anyone is interested in making a group leisurely editing discussion group where everyone just tries to contribute as much as they want for new authors please let me know so we can set it up! It should be a friendly safe space for just getting help fleshing out ideas without judgement and getting help making cool new stories for everyones enjoyment.
BookGuardian nah not at all. Although for me its not a source of rage, I find it hilarious how theres absolutely no way of telling how good the original fictions are from the reviews.
Like i hazard 1 in 20 are readable. Aside from that, i have the biggest suspicion that the lowest rating allowed(not removed) is a 4. Kinda like how MAL only allows 5/10 as their lowest.
BookGuardian also message me later. Im currently on nightshift and think an editor group would be cool
SmoothBuns Please edit my book. Gwahahaha.
Hahaha, your post screams I need to be an editor. XD
SweetsTomato When authors do not know the difference between "he" or "she", I will refrain to comment...
SweetsTomato If they release something in English the least they could do is read it over and put it through grammarly or something, the quality of original novels is absolute shit.
FilledWithHope Oh, I hope you can write what you just said above on 'Last Wish System' review :)
It seems like the quality is just getting worse with time. Hell, not even the translations for a lot of novels are good.

BookGuardian Hi I'm very interested in your offer. I planned on creating a story for my sister and I know that writing is not my forte.
Here, you can read my first story, if you have any suggestions. I'm open to them. Thank you
