  • KingDerp Someone should sue. Start a class action suit.

Webnovel will probably try to run by removing services from the countries with angry customers.

I recently privileged on a novel out of desperation for chapters and I feel absolutely taken advantage of. I payed for the right to purchase advance chapters, but now if I stop giving Webnovel my money, starting next month I wont have access to any chapters I haven't already read for up two months.

It's completely predatory. I warned so many people and in the end I still get preyed on as well.

    • CKtalon I disagree. No party in this deal is replaceable. Neither author, copyright holder, or the translator. The translator is just as vital as the author for implementation of a consistent standard or quality of translation... as well as other factors such as release rate. Not every translator is equal for every novel.

Customers are not necessarily replaceable either. Each stakeholder needs to be held to the highest standard, equivalently when WN is making it's decisions.

Otherwise, this outrage will repeat in a different form. Instead of readers WN will lose translators or contracts with authors or supporters that provide vital income to the company.

Any changes, even such as privilege needs to be executed with the most optimal amount of care relative to its effect on the company's bottomline.

Throwing out an arbitrarily bad system such as this one and enraging all these stakeholders is not the way to go.

      • SneakyMinx I can afford it, but I won't buy it. Why? Because it is a blatant and obvious ripoff. Even if you purchase WN's most expensive spirit stone package, it is still not enough to afford the 50 chapter privilege.

        That's how expensive it is.

Webnovel is owned by a legitimately decent parent company. I don't understand why this place has such nonsensical financial issues. Hire a manager or something.

This place can sustain itself without such high upfront costs by your customers. Don't say it's not possible.

        • Dante_The_Immortal The authors should get a 65-85% share of the profits and webnovel needs to take the back seat with less than 50%.

Greed needs to stop. Fix your overhead costs and stop overcharging your customers and underpaying our authors and translators.

          • BreeTG. What kind of book would you buy for $100? What kind of books do anyone buy that cost that much? That's the price of American educational material for universities and those pursuing doctorates.

Webnovel expects us to pay this monthly just to read individual chapters of Chinese novels! We dont even get a whole, completed book! It's ridiculous!!!

I would like the rate to display the expected or agreed upon amount of chapters that a translator is (hopefully contractually) obligated to provide. I saw someone request this in another thread. I would like for the rate to be directly adjustable by the translator. We could keep the average number as well, but it should be labled or titled as an average, directly on the webapge is clear writing to avoid misunderstandings.

Release rates are a touchy topic. I understand the reasoning that a translator is free to adjust release rates as they like. However, as a reader I feel a translator who releases chapters as they like or how often as they like is abusive to me. As a reader I have come to expect a certain level of quality and consistency from the novels which I read.

Having to pay soul stones (or subscribing on Patreon) is similar to a monthly subscription where I pay for a premium level of quality that is otherwise not available online for free. I do not think it is too much to expect these things in exchange for brand loyalty as a patron of our favorite novels.
