    Hello! Please don't cry! 😭

It's best to edit your book on the official website on a computer or laptop to make sure the web service can function fluently.

If you aren't seeing the image when it's ready to upload, it probably is a PNG file. Make sure the image is a JPG or JPEG file as those are the only ones allowed.

The last thing is the file must be at least 600 pixels in width and 800 pixels in height.

If you have done all of this and are still having problems please let me know. If you're in the WN discord we could probably talk it through further there. 😃

    Hope this helps!

    • It's above you on the dashboard. If you're on mobile here's a link. If you're looking for writing communities there may be some smaller discords on the forums you'd just have to search for them.

I'm not gonna be a douche and post a link and actually answer your question.

Every author comes to a point where they believe they lack the skill or proficiency that other writers do, especially if you're writing your first book.

In my case, the more I learned about writing, took criticism, and talked to other authors also just starting out gave me confidence. One of the most important things is continuing to read books that have a similar genre or style to yours so you can get new ideas.

And I'm talking books outside of WebNovel, especially translations from overseas, as it's hard to find a decent book on here that doesn't have atrocious grammar or a decent plot without the smut.

Hope this helps, and good luck. If you need an in-depth review, I'm glad to provide one. Just drop a link. 😄

        • Favyhm23 Make sure that your design is a .jpg file or it won't show up. The best dimensions for this site are 600 x 800, for reference as well.

        • You've pretty much answered your question in your initial statement. The reason novels on platforms like WebNovel don't get adapted is because they will always have the same writing quality of that which they already are, a web novel.

I'm pretty sure WebNovel's marketing teams knows this, and thus won't waste any time or expenses to cover printing, editing, etc. because simply put, web novels will never be able to compete in the mass-market especially in the US.

The reason you see a lot of Korean or Chinese novella getting adaptions is that in their markets it's enthused to try new tropes and/or put a spin on things (but if it works too well there are going to be copies, obviously. However, WN deliberately enthuses it through contests like WPC And WSA making new pieces unable to stand out). Another point is that the same companies that look for talent host web novel sites and hook you up with editors for improvements and send your work off to contests and talent agencies if they see you've got some decent work.

WebNovel, Qidian, is based in Singapore, so there's a disconnect between the platform and its authors since most of these guys can't speak Mandarin Chinese. 🤣 And, honestly, if you've ever seen the exclusive contract you'd know these guys don't give a dam about their writers or promoting their work. They only care about turning a profit.

Maybe there are some decent novels on this platform, but since WN-exclusive books can only be read and viewed on the site, they can't gain any data or stats on how relatively good the book is. Most of the readers on this platform have only read web novels, aren't English natives, and have a westernized POV (lack of cultural understanding) so their understanding of certain subjects and criticism isn't all that great.

e.g. Complaining reader because a certain character didn't fall in love with her own brother, argued that loving your relative uncontrollably apparently equals inc***?... I really don't understand WN readers. 🤮

In conclusion, web novels, especially ones curated in the US will stay web novels because they lack what the mass-targeted audience wants. And just because they're popular on WebNovel doesn't mean they'd be popular in the world market or in their specific genre. Lack of diversity and mindsets on this cesspool of a platform. 🤷

        • Space Patroller Miya: A girl with a lack of empathy lashes out at acquittances and her space crew due to her stubbornness and cold attitude. To make it even worse, the vast universe she traverses is filled with seemingly no positive outlooks whatsoever so she's probably destined to be a bi*** forever. 🤷

Akutoku: Wrath, Deceit, and Blood: Lady void of emotions and detached from the world, wields a cursed sword and goes on a killing spree for no reason. Gets manipulated by a young girl belonging to a noble clan and does some even nastier deeds, justifying her crude actions with 'they were going to die anyway.' 🙄

Space Patroller Miya (Science Fiction, Space, Psychological Horror) - https://www.webnovel.com/book/space-patroller-miya_23911581306503505

Both have equally intelligent and fearsome female leads. If you can handle some depictions of cruelty, however, I believe you'll find these books worth your while.

            • Never heard of this individual. However, you're better off just reading their books off WN if you don't feel comfortable buying anything from them yet.

You could look at his number of patrons, the most recent chapter posts on his wall, etc. for validation of whether he's actually posting stuff; But from just a quick search, I'm pretty sure 100+ patrons wouldn't be subscribed for unfinished content.

It's illegal to profit off fan-fics, since the original content is not yours, to begin with; So if that's another reason to not buy it, there you go I guess...?

              • Derrrorr Your rights are only given to WebNovel, or any writing platform for that matter, when you have signed an exclusive contract with them. If you decide to continue to write on this website without a paywall, you will keep all rights relating to your work.

              • If you've ever joined any of the open discussions on the WebNovel discord, the CEs themselves disclose that when picking a genre, that the 'Female Lead' and 'Male Lead' are just guidelines and nothing more. If your book has a female lead, but no romance takes place in the story it'll be better displayed in a genre that's under Male Lead. Same for any male lead books that have romance or BL, it's best to place them under the 'Romance' genre under Female Lead.

For instance, my book has a female lead with no romance whatsoever in a Fantasy-like world, so I was advised by my CE to switch over to the Fantasy genre under ML for better commerciality.

It's just a China novel site thing that they aren't willing to change because of customs and their culture's norms.

                • Empe_ror99 You can't really gauge such a question without actually writing a novel on the site. However, it really depends on your genre, writing quality, and update stability. If you're writing your first book, don't expect to hit the $200 USD threshold in the few first few months (or sometimes a year) unless you signed an exclusive contract. You've got to gain a following of readers that are willing to pay for your work and that could take time.

Writing a story in WPC or WSA could escalate your story to interested readers, and even signing an exclusive contract could bolster your views as they give free recognition on the front page if you're willing to post frequently. It really just depends on your drive, motivation, and writing skill level (but not most of the time) to succeed on WebNovel.

                  Hope this helps!

Let's say after you finish your book you'd want to post it on some other sites for a bigger audience pull.

Or perhaps you'd even thought, hey, maybe I could start a Patreon/Ko-Fi so fans could pay to read a few chapters ahead.

Maybe even, you're a bigger-picture sort of person and think, 'Woah, what if once I'm done, I can get an editor to polish up my book and I ship this to a publishing company for a paper edition, or post it on Amazon Kindle as an e-book.

Those ideas are pretty cool, right? Any author would want to see their book go to the next level.

Unfortunately, as soon as you sign an exclusive contract, all forms of marketing for yourself and your work belong to WebNovel. And with this site's biggest marketing scheme being, spend X amount of coins for some crummy badge, you aren't going to draw big unless you write for a popular trope for which the WN masses come here to read (e.g. Overpowered, CEO, System, Romance).

In a word, you won't be able to do anything outside of WebNovel for your book without a CEs permission. And if you read your contract, most of your inquiries will be answered with a simple, No.

Truthfully, the exclusive contract holds you back and is of no value to the writer. They only use it as a tool to guarantee that all books written by amateur writers, if for whatever reason they blow up, can only be milked by them and them alone. To rich and powerful to do their own research on marketable books I suppose, why not 'Catch em' all.'
