      Gotta keep in mind that these are web novels. Those types of stories are easy to digest and popular for readers. It's like a nice helping of junk food when you're not in the mood for a full-course meal. Just as satisfying, but a completely different taste depending on what you're in the mood for.

        Though there are plenty of popular non-generic stories here.

        A solid non-generic on this site is Release the Witch. Protagonist is transmigrated to medieval world where magical witches are oppressed by the Church and uses his knowledge of science to help them.
        Stuff you might not like: Protagonist's knowledge base is a little too much to be taken seriously and he has no powers.

        The King's Avatar is a e-sports genre story where MC is a veteran player of a MMO.
        Stuff you might not like: E-sports mean current age e-sports, MC sits with a keyboard and computer and so does everyone else important in the story...

        I am Really a Superstar: MC is reincarnated in a alternate modern world where most of modern cultural media (radio, TV, theatre, etc.) doesn't exist. With the goal of rising to the apex of stardom, he does what the Chinese do best: plagiarizing!
        Stuff you might not like: MC plagiarizes EVERYTHING.

                Some of them are just bad but some of them are written like that intentionally. You are supposed to read them 1 or 2 chapters a day and feel good about how the mc slapped faces/ got his revenge/ got the 234535236th member of his harem etc. It's called wish fulfillment and lots of people find it enjoyable.

                        1st. From selling point of view. Read Book of Author. This makes self-substitution easy for readers.

                        2nd. From storytelling. Reincarnation allow the readers to discover the world step by step together with MC. For example Harry Potter is a story of common young man who learned about a hidden mystical wizarding world. Reincarnation allow you ti give that experience. My MC didn't reincarnate so I have to 'explain' some of his thinking. This cut the enjoyment of the readers.

                            ad 2 you have a dozen other possibilities to obtain such results. You can sand a hero to faraway land.
