  • Why is webnovel locking up previously free chapters?

It looks like some free chapters of lohp suddenly become paid chapters. dont know for what reason. any one experiencing this? There are also cases where i already bought the chapter but for some reason is locked up again. what are your insights?

Don't know what is happening almost all e translated novel becoming premium and locking the already free chapters. So sad.

update. it looks like full hidden marks are also following this model. I remembered reading up to chapters 1200+ for free, but now i have to pay chapters 1083 and above. will this continue to move lower?

brynch Why is webnovel locking up previously free chapters?

        because they can..............

also because it increases the chance of you either spending SS or watching the ad, which qi profits from
there are a lot of them now i even got surprised some of the newer novels got locked on the 50th chapter and above..

Same so many novels I read suddenly became premium and now some are starting out as low as 50chs. I like to reread a lot and it sucks that now I’ll have to pay if I want to reread.

It seems that the advertising payment model is not making enough for webnovel to be satisfied... however, a subscription model also won’t work as the price they want seems to exceed a hardcopy professionally published novel in stores ... who would pay so much for work-in-progress novels that may stop without a satisfying conclusion? Not sure what they want readers to do but I’ll be dropping the app if this trend continues.

brynch "a valiant life" is the one i read yesterday, i thought that they have new chapter but when i downloaded it they lock the chapter that i already read

The interesting thing is how you need to watch an ad to unlock a chapter... and then, the next day, it is locked because it's premium now. You now have the premium option buy everything again and get twice as much enjoyment from the same content.
I don't actually mind if they lock 80% of the chapters, but they shouldn't lock again stuff that is already "paid" for.
And yes, QI surely got money for that ad, and they promised a chapter for it.
What's next? Unlocking stuff for 24h only? Chapters for rent?

brynch I know you weren't asking me, but I had to reply with my own.
        -The King's Avatar
        -Release That Witch
        -MMORPG: The Martial Gamer
just to name a few that I read for free now being locked behind premium. Geez, I get caught up with real life problems, leave this site for 3 months, and all of a sudden, nearly all of the novels I followed have gone premium, leaving me unable to even reread older chapters, let alone new ones...

I get that they need to make money. But the way they are charging it doesn’t make sense. It’ll cost like over USD100 to pay for 700-800 chapters...and if I’m following multiple stories than that really doesn’t make sense. I’ll never pay under the current model.

Why not just make it a monthly subscription model... I don’t mind pay USD5, or even 10 a month for unlimited reading.

I have same problem.. chapter I have unlocked be lock again..

The empresses Gigglio also got locked at around chapter 202. It already had an adwall from basically the beginning... Why did they have to put the paywall so close to the beginning, I mean compared to Release That Witch and other stories, they got their paywall ages away, prob around chapter ~600. Just depressing...

In my case they lock chapters that I already paid with SS because they did not have the add option. So I use money to buy the SS and then the chapter that was locked and after a month they locked it again? How does that work?

kzat4 I have to agree on this one. I do not mind paying at all, I already paid a bit to keep up with some ongoing novels. However there are some novels that are already finished or that have 500+ locked chapters that get to a ridiculous amount of money so I simply do not read those.

Those novels happen to be ones I would definitely give a try and read if they were 10 or 20 bucks but instead I end up simply not spending on those at all because the cost is too staggering.

If there would only be an option to pay a certain amount for a novel to be able to read all current and future chapters for 1 set reasonable price.

Or even better.. paying like 500 bucks to read an unlimited amount of novels for a lifetime. I would definitely jump on that one as I spend hours reading every day, it would pay for itself in no time.

                  that is very true
