Because good novels get banned fast in china.
I checked several horror novels and been wonder why authors so often change plot after 100~ chapters, and I found why. They got msg from novel hosting (qidian or other place where authors sell their novels) with information that because novel contains feudal superstition (read more https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/social-sciences/superstition) it will be deleted.
I actually start to love chinese people. Right now they promote LGBT+
but ban 'horror' novels and pro china novels.

Even patriotic china novels deleted from qidian. I think that china gov want to play into Royal Families shit just like in west europe and usa, but novels can cause problem for them. How big is china? how much dynasties they been have? way more compared to the rest of the world. Now new rich people enjoyed being rich and want to become permanent rulers. Why new rich people? Just read about civil wars in china, ww2, fake Chinese Communism (all Mao shit right from start being supported by USA. He even killed tons of chinese just to test water and how will USSR act. ofc USSR failed to act like always) etc.
Now you probably think - wow! this guy CRAZY! how small web novels can affect politic in china?
It affected in past and that's why they always burned books first.Imagine how china guy #1737748385 read another patriotic novel #157357 and decide to change china. Just look at german and poland now. People there went crazy in last 2~ years and start to kill politics that they hate EVEN if this politic been good for their own country. Why they killed them? different beliefs.

It's called contract and both sides must sign it. Chinese guys get offer to do it only after novel become popular or get enough chapters. Without contract all IP belong to author.

About prices for Chinese qidian version -

Webnovels translation very low quality (ofc it depend on novel) and in some novels translators just remove part of content or change it.
Funny. r18 novels (cover also matter) have hard time in china, but still allowed here.
25$/month - actually cheap. I wanted to support chinese authors but price per chapter been too much, now it's better.
I don't think its worth to buy translated chapters because low quality or even wrong translation. (just like my post)

I spend around 2k$ on Jap adult (hentai) manga and plot in most of them way better than in average chinese novel.
Even if it good novel, 500 or 1k chapters later it become another generic trash. This month I checked 2 'online games' novel and I'm sure that both authors never been play in PC MMORPG. First author even stolen some text parts from Warcraft 3 game (Well, his novel been about Warcraft world so maybe it okay?). Too bad only stolen parts good in his novel.

I also hope they're free. Korean comics on lezhin cost a lot and Chinese comics on qq also sold in a same way.
150 - 200 images for 5$ like Japanese manga? sure. I've bought tons of manga online even if they're average just because it cheap.
6~ images for 0.8$~? (Korean comics on lezhin, average price) no.
