And here i was trying to make taiko drumsticks as a weapon

Yup swords are way overused to the point you can see it as a tag on the novel

Rextraos wow now share out there, how about a mental chair canact cool and sit down after hitting someone

Can someone make a novel where the government bans the use of sword, because all of the previous rulers died under a sword
Then a young man stumbles and find a legendary sword hiwever that man also hates the sword to an extent.

TigerBlooImmortal Many people, such as yourself may (I'm assuming) fail to understand how diverse swords actually are. There are few people who write about a MC with a rapier, gladius/spatha, executioner's sword, falchions, kopesh, hook sword's/shuang gou, sickle swords and other ancient African swords, and many others.
You see the dacian falx actually curves forward for armor piercing and is used much differently than a normal sword. In fact it was used to defeat the mighty roman army due to this.
It's not just a diversity in weapons needed, but a diversity in types of swords as well.

TigerBlooImmortal Why not use an unorthodox weapon then? Like an everyday object that is changed up a bit in the story to make a whole new weapon. Like a feather since it can act as a fan, a sword(which considering your taste is not an option), a long range weapon if you use the barb(the soft fluffy part protruding from the quill) as a sort of needle gun, and once it runs out of needles you can use the quill itself as a spear. You can choose one of these options as your weapon base and imagine it like Sun Wukongā€™s staff and it can shrink or grow so it is easy and convenient for the MC to carry around. When meeting a high ranking official the guards may take away your weapons, but who would take away a small feather?

lynerparel Tbh fists are rarely used primarily by MCs. and when they were it tends to only be for a short part of the novel.

EldridSmith I understand the use of swords but it's like this, everyone uses swords so wouldn't there be a basic defense for them no matter the type of sword? I mean on a basic level it's been used so much everyone and their mother has probably heard of or seen a move similar or the same as any sword move you can come up with, and swords are really just overused, but each author makes it seem as if the use of the sword is the most rare thing ever

UnjustlyUnderpaid truebut I'm OK with it being used as a sword as the idea itself is truly unorthodox and unique, it's not the swords themselves I dislike it's the authors constant use of them in the same way not even trying to make it special, for example a regular sword handle, with a long thin sword about 6 feet, that's unique and not something you see

TigerBlooImmortal I'm merely pointing out that you generalize swords too much, however I do agree.
Even my mc uses a normal sword, but this is also tied to his heritage... well anyways I get your point.

Nah, the only character I have seen stick with this is Shi Yan from Battle Through the Heavens, but he is more of a mage type fighter using the incredible control he has over his many heavenly flames later on in the story if I recall correctly.

                    TigerBlooImmortal

What about a rather simple weapon. Alright, so it is a Dual-Ended halberd. I will link a conceptual image.

                    alternatetext

And, what if the staff part of it can change into chains? So have a cultivator who cultivates the Dao of Metal, giving him the ability to alter the weapon slightly while maintaining the shape?
