Ah, this thread is revived.

From sweet to epically horrible.

1:51.3 Oneshots tend to get fantastic ratios if they're read at all. One chapter, just shy of 1700 reads and 33 collections.

1:18000 Yep, I worked hard to get the worst possible ratio. Write one novel in a series of three (making it clear only two novels were ever written). Publish the sequel as well. Make certain both novels are readable and end the second one in a cliffhanger. 90k reads and 5 (five) collections including myself.

    48k views and 154 collections.
I don't really promote my novel and I only update it a few times a week, so it doesn't get much exposure.
So far, the people that read it seem to like it, so I guess that's all that matters.

      102k view, 129 collections
Dunno if this okay or not okay.
Update also random maybe that's why it didn't look so balanced. My book is kinda not having a 'healthy' ratio. Hahaha

        2:900 lol,
On my other one it's 67:10k - but I put that one a hiatus.

Lol! It's like the dead returned to life with this thread.

I'm glad it's functioning again. For a while this forum was making it glitchy.

I'd add my ratio, but it's too bloody embarrassing. :flushed:

I'm not really keen to remind myself that my books aren't really the going thing here. I consider myself a skilful writer (someone's gotta give me props), but someone who tends to write stories the average reader here would walk past or not touch with a ten-foot pole.

StenDuring Holy sh!t Sten! That's a good number.

Then I look down and... damn! :flushed:

MOCHIIICHII The start will be the story. Pump out a quality product someone else is likely to read and that is the first start at nabbing a reader. Sure, you can write solely for yourself. From my experience, it's just yourself reading it in the end.

            There's also:

            • Commitment (like daily updating sort of thing). Return readers will want to see this,
            • quality content. Not just the grammar, but how the story itself unfolds,
            • networking with readers and writers like you're doing now,
            • observing how things work. Not just on this site, but other similar sites and around the book markets like Amazon. What are other writers doing to gain reads that might be something that could work for you? Example that some writers are testing for readership is #writerslift on twitter, that's a craze of when you get x number of followers, peeps can post a silly comment on your tweet to celebrate with you and so forth.

To be honest. The first focus should be writing a top notch story and finishing it. Put it out there and see what bites. If it doesn't bite. Revise your blurb, cover and metadata (like the tags and categories). Until you're satisfied it's attracting some interest, and the right sort of interest. If you're writing a CEO romance, you don't want to categorize it as a horror story. Unless it's a ghost CEO thing I guess.

Swap reviews tend to work for some.

Shameless plugs. Although, there are a lot of them running here.

There's also the #original novel discussion channel on the discord webnovel server that you can plug your story to. Just don't spam the channel heinously. Actually, don't spam.

The rest is trial, error and observation.

            Good luck! :smile_cat:

Actually, shameless plugs will turn people off more than draw them to your story. So try not to overdo shameless promotions and self-advertisements because there is nothing less appealing than an author who obnoxiously spams his story in multiple threads and Discord channels. It makes you seem...desperate, and is more likely to invite troll reviews instead of actual readers.

Tomoyuki yep. There's a fine balance to take. I'm not a fan of spam. Since I somehow tend to be a magnet for it. πŸ˜…

Veronica8 Ouch. You need a spam filter! I'm not saying you shouldn't self-promote or advertise at all, but maybe one or two threads where relevant? But looking for three or more threads to post your story link will clog up the forums and make it look bad.

                7 days later

28 days since I started writing.
I got 100,000 views and 505 collections as of now.
                The ratio is 1:198
Just 10 days ago my numbers were.
                13000 views and 77 collections
                The ratio was 1:168

My novel is currently ranked 6th in the new original power rankings.

Can someone tell me if I am doing good or not and can I expect to get contracted someday with these numbers?

MisterImmortal that's good. I got contracted without those numbers. To be honest my book hasn't even reached 100 collections. But those <100 are people willing to take a chance on my book. So that makes me happy. WN looks for potential. You can also apply.

I'm really new here but if that doesn't matter then my ratio is 103:1

                      I think it's a fine start personally.

                        Hmmm 40300/106 = 380:1

Duno how that sounds but for a beginner duno.

Wow, didn’t think I’d see this thread back up again! Flashback to early WN forum days on here lol~

Ratios, hmm.... nah, I just had a fourth month hiatus, so it’s not gonna be pretty πŸ˜‚

I'd like to join here just because I hit my first 1000 collections and I feel like celebrating 😍😍

Thank you to all my readers of "Trust in Love." It has been an amazing 1st month ❀️

blanketskies super late and some1 prob already answered but in my experience itll be very good stats first 20k words and starts to steadily go downhill from there as multiple reasons like people who dont even want the genre try it / accidental clicks, same person views (not suppossed to but still counts it enough or at least I speculate), if u want a average tha prob when u have at least around 5k bookmarks

Stats still small time and not much change being contracted other than awesome feature slots . It's cool. The story is getting small wins to the big gains. I've received some regular readers and lovely comments. I like to think my story is a fine wine maturing for the jackpot.

I guess it's back to writing.

                                55000/380=145.7

From my observations, the updating rate clearly give a non negligible help. I've seen stories with an inferior weekly collection rank having their weekly collection increasing by three or four fold just by releasing a few more chapters per week.

And in the end, the only stat i care about is the valid reader retention rate, especially the new reader's one. I noticed that the more chapter i release, the more people comes back on my story in the following days. The stats could be bad for all i know, but at least they're improving, which is i guess still better than the opposite.

Can any one explain how this works. And is it good if it increases

Just calculated mine. It's been 10 days since I began writing for first time. I its around 188

Arkinslize Yes, I noticed when the updates are regular, there are more collections, although there are not very many views. Well, the truth is I keep statistics for no more than 25 days.

                                          2900 views/16 collections => 182
