I'm really new here but if that doesn't matter then my ratio is 103:1
I think it's a fine start personally.
Hmmm 40300/106 = 380:1
Duno how that sounds but for a beginner duno.
Wow, didn’t think I’d see this thread back up again! Flashback to early WN forum days on here lol~
Ratios, hmm.... nah, I just had a fourth month hiatus, so it’s not gonna be pretty
Mine is new and has a low view count, but the ratio is 90:1

I'd like to join here just because I hit my first 1000 collections and I feel like celebrating

blanketskies super late and some1 prob already answered but in my experience itll be very good stats first 20k words and starts to steadily go downhill from there as multiple reasons like people who dont even want the genre try it / accidental clicks, same person views (not suppossed to but still counts it enough or at least I speculate), if u want a average tha prob when u have at least around 5k bookmarks

Haven't posted here since May. Curious to see if being contracted has made a difference.

Stats still small time and not much change being contracted other than awesome feature slots . It's cool. The story is getting small wins to the big gains. I've received some regular readers and lovely comments. I like to think my story is a fine wine maturing for the jackpot.
I guess it's back to writing.
55000/380=145.7
From my observations, the updating rate clearly give a non negligible help. I've seen stories with an inferior weekly collection rank having their weekly collection increasing by three or four fold just by releasing a few more chapters per week.
And in the end, the only stat i care about is the valid reader retention rate, especially the new reader's one. I noticed that the more chapter i release, the more people comes back on my story in the following days. The stats could be bad for all i know, but at least they're improving, which is i guess still better than the opposite.
Can any one explain how this works. And is it good if it increases

Just calculated mine. It's been 10 days since I began writing for first time. I its around 188
Arkinslize Yes, I noticed when the updates are regular, there are more collections, although there are not very many views. Well, the truth is I keep statistics for no more than 25 days.

Let me be shameless.
2900 views/16 collections => 182
Ehm. Should I offer my terrible ratios or not? Hah, why not. :p
Start of this new week:
334K views /1390 collections / 15 PS
240:1 - Active updates since Jan 21 after 4-month hiatus
148K views / 306 collections / 1 PS
483:1 - Not updated for >4 months hiatus
195k views / 155 collections / 0 PS
1258:1 - No longer is updated on Webnovel for several months, and since then, this ratio has shot back up the thousands LOL
Chryiss Those are numbers for the hobbyist.
Epic awfulness to follow.
107k reads, 6 (six) collections including myself.
That makes a brutal 17.8K:1
Wonder who popped that las collection. I was above 20k:1 a mere month ago :)
StenDuring Yup haha!
And the last stat was after a week or so of views increasing by 2k each day for some odd reason or glitch. It used to be 170k something before that jolt lol. Still a bad ratio regardless of the ghost readers~
And you’re still around! Haven’t see you in some time, doing well?
Yep. Running out of buffer for my main but otherwise just fine. That one is at around 1000:1 and going steady there btw.

Waah! 1390 collections :eyes: That's brilliant!
I'm barely crawling to 200. It's like when you watch the clock hand tick slooowly and annoyingly to the next number and it takes foreeeeever. That's my collection add traction.
Trust me to write gay niche :pensive: I can't help it. I want to give my men a fighting chance for love. :smile_cat: Woah. I'm going down an off topic path here. :flushed:
Ironically, my views are clocking up the numbers faster than the adds. I suspect there's a lot of curious cats taking a peek. Or maybe more spambots catching on to my metadata.
StenDuring 107k reads, 6 (six) collections including myself.
Should I make it lucky 7? :smile_cat:
Hahaha :D
It's a sequel so I'm not entirely surprised retention is bad. The first book even comes with a warning I only wrote two out of the planned three books and have no plans to write the third.
Comparing book one and two is kind of interesting as well.
Book one: 208k views : 25 collections.
Book two: 107k views and 6 collections.
That's a fifty percent drop in views and 75 percent drop in collections.
StenDuring wowzers. :flushed: The difference of the two is really different.
StenDuring and the number of words and chapters in each book?
That is, the second book has fewer views? for what period of time is there statistics?
Eh, if the sequel had more views I'd be seriously worried.
Anyway, book one is some 130k words with the second one at around 110k. Give or take a few thousand each.
I dumped them here one chunk daily for a few months. There isn't all that much time between them in other words. After all we're talking two book I wrote 2003 - 2005. It's basically just an upload of an old work, so I never bothered even pretending to market them here.
120 and 90 "chapters" respectively. That's webnovel chunks and not real chapters. By any proper definition of chapter I think it's 40 and 30 respectively. Well, or something like that anyway.
The "chapter" problem is even more visible for my main. It's really 15 chapters per volume, but here I'm publishing it at almost 70 per volume.
I guess if you have very short chapters you'll get lots of views but a rotten number of collection. Publish 5k long chapters on webnovel and you'll probably end up with piss poor views numbers but a really nice views per collection ratio. Noone's gonna bother clicking into chapter two unless they're already really interested in the story.
StenDuring Thank you for sharing such interesting information. The optimal number of words in the chapter I count from 750 to 1200 words. Bonus chapters 1550-2200 words. It’s easier to read.
If I am very interested in the translation work and there will be 5500 words in the chapter, I will probably read on, but if this is the original work I will probably stop looking at the first thousand words, regardless of good English.
XeRey Welcome! And those are pretty good for a new novel and writer to this site. Webnovel honestly doesn’t have the best system for exposing new novels, so any new collection you receive early on is significant. Just keep writing consistently, that’s the best way to grow. Promoting your story helps as long as it’s not spammy, but the onus definitely falls on you unless your story caters to popular fan service or story types. Don’t suggest that though. Just you do you.
1 collection and 1.300 views this is just sad I can't make anyone stay, just like in real life kkk
Chryiss 3 chapters. I plan around 60 for part one and then part two. I translate my own work, which I finished long ago so I can update frequently.
It is a fantasy novel about a liberated slave girl and a prince.
But because It's a slowburn (Prince gets friendzoned 2 times lol) I'm afraid I'll never hit it big.
But I keep translating anyway, it's fun
Mamelunka Yeah if the story type is or isn’t popular, that really affects the mass appeal. I ask if new and how many chapters, because stories that update a lot tend to get more readership, and obviously the longer it’s out, the greater the stats. Sounds like you’re passionate, so keep at it! You never know, some stories jump suddenly.

WTF?! I'm not moving much at all. I wonder if I should go back to daily releases. Nah. I can't do daily. Friday 3 x weekly is the best I can keep up with and ensure quality. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I'll just keep on, keeping on. Either way, I'm finishing this TMS beast.
If I stay vigilant, I should have this story done and dusted by the end of March or early April. Kind of heavy, since the Battle of Iwo Jima kicked off around March during the time.
Chryiss Yay! The cat wins. :smile_cat: That's good because it's the final cover. I'm not changing it
No love for the cover of the men in their saucy moment?
XD joking. Tbh. I thought the soft pink BL cover would be good click bait. Then again, the story was getting a lot of suspicious lifts in views. Was kind of time to change covers before I attracted a gang of creepy pervs.
I'm very happy to leave the book with the cat cover.
Thank you again. I aim to complete many quality tales as possible. I want to leave something of a nobody legacy behind when I bite the dust.
Anyone experienced a serious drop in new collections when you got out of the news ranking?(stories less than 30 days).
Because i'm living this, it's depressing. From 30-40 collections a day to barely 3-5. Is there a rise when the story goes above a given number of chapter or you can't expect anything before being featured?
