It's very handy for just the situation you're talking about! đź‘»

Hyowha True. Translators do it directly for word meaning rather than adhere to what the new language culture would be familiar with/translate the jargon.

However, I should’ve been more specific and say that those writing their own cultivation stories also write like this unnecessarily when it’s not an original Chinese story.

Another really annoying thing ins Cult novels is how lazy authors get a waifu to the MC. Either is a fated meeting that yet is identical to one of the 100 thousands damsels he saves, or my most disliked trope: find a martial legacy, but is dual cult, so when he finds it, ofc the other one is a beautiful, etc etc female, and they are forced to have s*x or die horribly, and from that point they are a couple. I find it honestly sad. It happens in martial peak, wu dong quiang and so many others. I mean, wtf author san! you make MC find and befriend hundreds of "word class beauties" (sic!) yet to get laid he has to be forced in a do or die situation?!

MAINID1 This thread should really on top to tell qidian stop translatin new cliche annoying cultivation story but start to focus on quality one.

Their focus are on hot-blooded ambitious juveniles and romance-addicted youths, so naturally they keep on translating these new short-term good novels to gain profit from them, then keeping the best for last for maximum benefits.
    Or not...

How there's ALWAYS some peerless fairy who is cold to everyone, but falls in love with the MC after he displays his powers.

Chemistry between the two? She is beautiful and he is the MC, what more could you want?

I know this thread is for the bad things in cultivation novels, but I must take this chance to recommend a great cultivation novel series.

The Cradle series by Will Wight.

Seriously, pick it up if you can, there's so much good things that I dont know where to begin.

MC doesn't go from weak to OP in a single chapter, which makes his improvement all the morr satisfying.

But that doesn't mean he is useless, thanks to his perseverance, wits, and yes, cheating.

Honour actually means something here, so no using family and friends as a pure plot device to threathen MC.

There is a female lead and she doesn't falls in love with MC at first meeting. Nor second or third. These things take time, even more so if they are in a hostile place, fearing for their life.

There's so much more than that to this series, and thats why I recommend it.

JohnnyKbca Try to read the record of unusual creature. Tell me what you think.

Hell, its already 1200 chapter and MC still doesn't have lovey dovey scene, and he is the pope of the universe.

Yeah, I'm running out of idea in finding ridiculous "Features" in cultivation novels. Let me think a bit...

A world with one God cultivator that kills anyone that trys to get powerful... That's a great idea for a horror cultivation novel.

Many Cultivation stories seem like sequels of the previous ones. Some authors don't bother to gradually explain the world or the power system; it's like the author expects you to have read another cultivation novel before reading his/her own. And it shows even more when the stories just repeats what another 30 novels have done with a little spin on it.
A lot of the novels have these dog-eat-dog societies, sects or similar structures, sky above sky, arrogant young master, etc. It's like their all working with the same material.
The thing I find most intolerable is 'Talent'. In cultivation talent usually decides everything. Finding resources and training is good and well but without talent these things have limits. In a lot of cases (as is seen with commoners/mortals) lack of cultivation talent completely removes the chaces of being truly great. Hard work? Perseverance? Ingenuity? Those don't matter if you don't have talent. The MCs usually find a way to get this talent and theirs is always (secretly) the greatest talent ever.
With all that said I find Birth of the Demonic Sword to be an example of a great Cultivation novel. I didn't even know I was reading cultivation for like 10 - 20 chapters.

[unknown] that's pretty much the summary of a tale of demons and gods

                      Almost everything is ridiculous.

However, what I find most ridiculous is when an ancestor comes out of the woodwork and says, "You killed my grandson, so I'm going to kill your nine generations."

What if it was the Emperor's son who had killed his grandson?

This leads to another point, why does only the MC have enemies who fight their battles?

Why can't the MC's enemy have the same enemy as the MC?

I don't remember reading a novel where a powerful enemy of the MC was killed by another enemy.

Why does only the MC have to be the one to kill his enemies?

By the way, this topic was the best I've read on this forum and I even added it to my favorites as there are only truths here.

Unfortunately, we know that all these ridiculous tropes that happen in cultivation novels are what characterizes them.

Despite so many background cultivators with negative IQ, these novels will remain popular.
