RekiChan The books that have been chosen to release the chapters have a bigger stockpile than what is released to ensure a stable release rate. So there will almost guaranteed be 50 chapters already at the promised tier.

Rule #6 is there for when the book is being completed. The book will still continue releasing chapters for the regular readers, so it's to inform Privileged readers ahead of time of this situation. So yes, if the book is ending soon, and has lesser chapters left to the end, then obviously it can only show what's left to you.

CKtalon Point is, with simple maths you can see how much of a benefit WN/TL will do if they just unlock X chapters without having to pay to unlock them afterward.
    Let's take 2500 SS = 50 chapters as a base
    2500 / 50 = 50 SS/chapter, which is 3 to 5 times a chapter price (taking 10 to 15 as a base)
    Taking the upper base (15):
    50 * 15 = 750 SS to unlock 50 chapters
In total, a reader that want to support by unlocking 50 chapters in advance have to pay 3250 SS (50$) which is 4 times the price of unlocking chapters as they are released.

I wouldn't mind spending something between 1500-2500 SS to read 50 chapters in advance if they were just unlocked without having to pay AGAIN to unlock the chapters.

This would still be a huge profit for the translator!

Right now, it seems WN just want to make as much benefit as possible, because I'm pretty sure they're taking a nice margin.
Edit: it seems that everything goes to the translator

healiha Regarding your edited comment, where did you get that everything goes to the original authors/translators? So WN doesn't get any cut? Source please?

Cantiara I got this information from Tofu, the lead of Exodus Tales translation's group.
        The exact message was

The money being spent goes to those who worked hard for this to happen

So I guess it's the translator that gets the money.

healiha webnovel typically takes a 50% cut on paid SS, and authors/translators dont get paid any bonus SS that was used on their novel. so that takes out check-in SS and the bonus SS that comes with buying a large amount of SS.

Since its the same action of buying advance chapters, I'd think its safe to assume they also take 50% on these "privilege" chapters.

CKtalon thanks for the reply. Is there any rules or guidelines regarding how much the translator or Qidian can charge for privileged chapters?
I just check the cost for privileged chapters of 2 novels which are 1 marriage 2 treasures and RTW, for 1M2T they charge 2500ss for 50 chapters while RTW charge 2000ss for 15 chapters. Even if it based on word count I don't think 15 RTW chapters have equals word count to 40 1M2T chapters.

I wonder if they are making money from this from whales or losing money from customers leaving

I wonder if they are making money from this from whales or losing money from customers leaving

healiha From the quoted text, it sounds like it could mean the money goes to those who worked hard for this (privilege chapters) to come about, meaning advocates of this idea (including WebNovel staff). Very vague in terms of who was involved and where the money is going to (honestly, if it was going 100% to translators/editors/authors, WebNovel would have made sure to note that somewhere in their announcement to ensure they are seen in a better light (PR piece)). So I find it hard to believe all of it goes to editors/translators/authors in a fair arrangement.

Also consider that they banned translators/editors who did "Privilege Chapters" aka advanced chapters via Patreon way before WebNovel. If you want to justify saying this is exactly like Patreon-- At least Patreon gave you the chapters as soon as you pledged the amount, not asking you to pay again to unlock them. On top of that, they had milestones for communities to reach, so when certain tiers were reached, it'd help the entire community collectively (increased release rates, monthly mass release increased rates, etc). Furthermore, the content creators in charge of said Patreon actually communicated with their readers more actively and was more inclusive.

What's WebNovel offering anything of benefit outside of it giving more money percentage to WebNovel instead of Patreon and their 'almighty' authors/translators/editors, and omitting many features Patreon offered. Oh right, a shiny new badge online that no one will see because your forums is only meant for people to either complain about your shady practices ("Premium Beta Program", remember your promises/claims then?), your buggy (web) apps, or Original authors circle jerking each other for reviews because they can't get any real 'support' they were promised from WebNovel on advertisement/promotions/etc.

WebNovel's past conduct/shady practices should make anyone doubt rather than optimistically believe that any actions/stance they take is any way good. Remember Premium "Beta" Program? Seem to recall them claiming a lot of things regarding that too, but I don't really see much of that going as claimed and only see that it's become a common practice for all popular novels to become premium. Accepting their 'innovations' will only make them think it was a perfect feature and will likely make every popular novel get their own "Privilege Chapters." What's next, we got to pay extra to read chapters edited by the 'almighty editors' lol?

              Tenny2905

              Add on the following
              - Perfect wife is a little sweet
              - Prodigiously amazing weaponsmith

Seems like most popular novels are affected
This poor humble reader can’t afford it

RekiChan Seriously, just don't waste your money on privilege. It's not worth it.

Did you know that you will still need to pay to unlock and eventually read the advance chapters even after you pay the privilege fees?

Cantiara Yea I know about that and I also know that it's not worth the SS spent, but I often find myself raging when the translator stopped the daily chapters right on a massive cliffhanger and if I read the novel in the morning I might think on that chapters and next chapters the whole day and possibly ruin my day. So in my opinion, if I can spend 200ss for 5chapters and possibly finish without cliffhangers it might be a good deal. But the 2nd payment required to unlock the unlocked chapters still sucks.

CKtalon I see, another question, If initially I paid 1000ss for 10 privileged chapters but then I want to upgrade it to 2500ss for 25 chapters and of the same novel do I still need to pay the full amount of 2500ss? Or will it deduct from the 1000ss I paid initially so I only need to pay 1500ss more?
