healiha From the quoted text, it sounds like it could mean the money goes to those who worked hard for this (privilege chapters) to come about, meaning advocates of this idea (including WebNovel staff). Very vague in terms of who was involved and where the money is going to (honestly, if it was going 100% to translators/editors/authors, WebNovel would have made sure to note that somewhere in their announcement to ensure they are seen in a better light (PR piece)). So I find it hard to believe all of it goes to editors/translators/authors in a fair arrangement.
Also consider that they banned translators/editors who did "Privilege Chapters" aka advanced chapters via Patreon way before WebNovel. If you want to justify saying this is exactly like Patreon-- At least Patreon gave you the chapters as soon as you pledged the amount, not asking you to pay again to unlock them. On top of that, they had milestones for communities to reach, so when certain tiers were reached, it'd help the entire community collectively (increased release rates, monthly mass release increased rates, etc). Furthermore, the content creators in charge of said Patreon actually communicated with their readers more actively and was more inclusive.
What's WebNovel offering anything of benefit outside of it giving more money percentage to WebNovel instead of Patreon and their 'almighty' authors/translators/editors, and omitting many features Patreon offered. Oh right, a shiny new badge online that no one will see because your forums is only meant for people to either complain about your shady practices ("Premium Beta Program", remember your promises/claims then?), your buggy (web) apps, or Original authors circle jerking each other for reviews because they can't get any real 'support' they were promised from WebNovel on advertisement/promotions/etc.
WebNovel's past conduct/shady practices should make anyone doubt rather than optimistically believe that any actions/stance they take is any way good. Remember Premium "Beta" Program? Seem to recall them claiming a lot of things regarding that too, but I don't really see much of that going as claimed and only see that it's become a common practice for all popular novels to become premium. Accepting their 'innovations' will only make them think it was a perfect feature and will likely make every popular novel get their own "Privilege Chapters." What's next, we got to pay extra to read chapters edited by the 'almighty editors' lol?
