Go ahead, just write about a novel you've read here or a well known novel that you really hate. Just say whatever you hate about it, even if it's several pages long.

I’ll start mentioning a few (don’t get offended): Basically any novel with romance as the plot. So basically 99% of the female protagonists novels and 40% male protagonists novels.

Sorry, I'd rather find out why Klein keeps getting into ridiculous situations, than two people who clearly know the other likes them, won't confess. And then drag it out for... Maybe 400 chapters?

Now go ahead, it's your turn now:

I personally can't stand poorly written novels. I don't mean those that have a few mistakes here or there. I'm talking about the ones in which the English is so bad that it is distracting. It makes me want to drop it immediately, regardless of how promising the description was.

I'll only partially agree with XystOblivion on the cultivation/system/harem novels. The ones that I dislike have the same issue. The main character gets too OP without a proper reason other than the author wanting to fulfill his/her own desire. If there is a proper reason and it is used moderately as part of the plot then I find it okay. If the MC just acts godlike and controls everything, then it just feels trashy. But I guess some people just like instant fulfillment.

A lot of reincarnation/transmigration/isekai novels end up with those kind of problems. I'm actually writing one of those that avoids using those kind of gimmicks, hoping to bring something unique even in a seemingly overused genre.

I am very sorry for writing such awful stories. If you feel that strongly about it and wish for me to delete my story, I will do so as soon as possible.

Tomoyuki you have motivation to write which is more than I have. As soon as I finish a chapter I go into a slump where I feel like what I wrote isn’t good enough and that nobody will like it even though I spent around 5 to 6 hours writing and perfecting a meager 2100 words. I care what people think about my work and that is what tears me up inside when I sit down to write. Perhaps you have confidence in your writing abilities or you don’t care what other people think about your writing I don’t know. I’m not going to try to assume your thought processes. All I have to say is good on you for all that you’ve done so far and you should continue writing regardless of what people may say.

XystOblivion I will do my best. Like you, I care what people think about my work, which is why I get so devastated whenever people tell me they hate my stuff, they think my story is stupid, or insult my characters. It wears me down mentally and spiritually, and I feel like I'm on the breaking point. Add real life failures to that list, and it's not very healthy.

Clowniac People have called me worse and even told me to kill myself. Honestly, I'm seriously considering it. If so many people hate me and find me offensive, then it's better for the world if I just die and disappear completely.

Besides, it's not out of the blue. I write cultivation and romance stories, which is basically what the people on here are complaining about and saying it's very bad or utter garbage or poorly written. Most readers constantly tell me that, and I'm sure my story is among those the posters here are complaining about. Sometimes I think I should follow the readers' advice and delete my story, leave the site, and give up writing totally. I gather that 99% of my readers feel that way, and seeing people post about how terrible the genre I write is on forums, that feeling is reinforced further.

Tomoyuki hey, 99% of WN novels are cultivation or romance stories. just because many books in such genre are written terribly, it doesn't mean that your work is one of of those. it's like saying "females only read romance" just because many females enjoy reading romance. definitely not a true fact.
you shouldn't take what people say about something very generalized, like a genre, and apply it on yourself!
read your positive reviews and comments and focus on those. I'm sure there's plenty.

          Tomoyuki
Just because people are getting tired of a particular genre doesn't mean that's the case for everyone.
People probably look at mine and think "oh it's another shitty isekai". The question that I pose to myself whenever I write, which has only been about 2 months, who am I trying to please. In my case, I write because I have an idea that I can't get out of my head. I have created a character with a destiny in mind, and I'm slowly marching to the end and filling those events in, like I'm experiencing it for myself.
If you read my novel carefully, you'll find much of myself in it. And if I get a bunch of people interested along the way, well I can be happy with that.

Tomoyuki if you think about it, every story that has ever been written is based off of something, meaning that it is in some ways unoriginal. Anybody who writes has to base their story off of some sort of idea or cliché to get their story started. Romance and cultivation just happen to be some of those starting building blocks to success. After starting, it is up to the author to put some sort of unique and interesting twist on the genre or cliché to make it fresh and new to the reader. There is no way in hell anybody would be able to just up and create a new genre just to suit their own story and even If they somehow did manage to do that there would still be elements of other genres in it. Every day I try to create some sort of idea in my mind of something to put in my story that I haven’t read or seen anywhere else before. These attempts at creating ideas are usually fruitless but I do have fruits of my labor that I write down for later deliberation. Even then, I only believe these new ideas are new because I haven’t read of them anywhere before. So therefore they could already have been thought of by others and used to their utmost. But how would I know? To me, that’s what matters because I don’t really care if it has been used somewhere else not to my knowledge. As long as I haven’t seen it used before then I feel like I am being innovative and original. I am creating my own ideas and using them as I see fit without anyone or anything influencing me and holding me to some higher standards. And trust me, the more I read, the harder it becomes to think of new ideas as concepts and premises of novels I have already read flood my mind and block my creativity from flowing. Sorry for this rant, it kind of went of the rails really quickly lol. Basically, don’t listen to what other people say unless it’s about grammar or writing errors. It tends to corrupt the writer’s mind with a set of standards that they believe they need to achieve to give satisfaction to their readers. Your happiness comes first and foremost. The readers are simply looking for some entertainment just like you and it’s not weird to say that some of those readers derive entertainment from insulting and bullying the authors. Don’t listen to them, write what you want to write, and have fun doing it. :)

            Tomoyuki

I mean, I'm writing a transmigration fantasy story with a harem and a system in it, and have had people tell me to kill myself and threaten to rape my wife.

Fuck those guys. They can go swallow a fork. It's not gonna stop me from writing what makes me happy.

Are you writing what you want to write and enjoy writing? If so, do like I do in the sentence above. Being a critic is easy. Being a creator is hard. Learn whatever you can from them, and otherwise completely ignore those assholes.

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody. I will do my best.

And wow...if people actually threaten to rape your wife, you can actually file a police report. Don't stop at reporting their comments to Webnovel, I think you can actualy file a police report for that.

                Tomoyuki

I live in a part of the world that would allow me to unapologetically murder anyone who attempted something like that on my property, or in the defense of my family.

Words are words. But I have a hatchet and a very deep hole if they feel like trying to follow through on them.

Almost makes me want to write a harem, but, naeh, I kind of agree with the sentiment. Still, it should be possible to create a good one.

And I'm one of the 99% according to the OP :D Well AND the 40% since I've got six main chars of mixed genders.

Clowniac Good ol' America. We can shoot people who step into our backyard without permission. I don't know whether it applies to foreign residents, though...we are certainly not allowed to own a gun.

                      Tomoyuki

I appreciate that my being American is so obvious, in spite of what I described being true in much of the developing world as well. XD

Clowniac Interesting. I know not of any developing countries that have these laws, but my knowledge regarding the rest of the world is very narrow. Unless it's Japan, which is a developed country.

XystOblivion I like harem because, in many xianxia, it's much easier for the authors to just have a good ol harem of beauties than frying his brain trying to write a pure, sensible monogamous romance... which sometimes gets in the way of the actual story. And one harem novel in particular, Profane Prince of Domination, is a legendary harem based novel. Harem is half of the plot, and it's fun and enjoyable as heck.
