Well, i understand everyone wants to read for free, but from the moment someone worked hundreds of hours to write a good story, he deserves something. The truth is that whether there is 10M readers or 1000, the few ones that were spending on their favorite stories will still spend. As for the others that really love some stories but didn't spend for it at all, you're in fact in my opinion lacking respects to these authors.
The truth is that if the average reader gave even just 1$ to any story he enjoyed, webnovel would never need to use such a system. That's this kind of selfishness that create this.
The original membership system where
all stories were readable worked on this logic. In the end, those that spent a lot took the membership, and the others didn't paid at all, so they lost money.
I think Webnovel needed to make a better distinction between paid SS and free SS from the start. Like gifts to novels are paid SS only. Same for privilege. That would have avoided a ton of the issues that they currently have if people understood that not all SS equally supported authors. I never understood why gifts could be made with free SS.
The current system is also very flawed as it rewards novels with shorter chapters and penalizes longer chapters, since readers are more likely to unlock shorter chapters with stones and longer chapters with fast passes. At least the free SS had no bias of readership spending.
Arkinslize ah, well, they've made it much less enticing to purchase anything. When there was "privilege" I happily purchased and felt great about supporting the translators/authors. When they took that away and switched to opening chapters early, I happily paid that too, support the translators/authors! But now if you purchase, you're cornered into only purchasing more, not even able to enjoy the basic "pass" free users are able to enjoy. It no longer makes sense to purchase anything 
. Hopefully WN will figure it out, but until then I doubt anyone will be purchasing anything.

- When have they ever taken away the privilege service? It was only introduced last July, and it's still there.

Well, guess what, you shouldn't have to pay just because it was in your good grace to do so. You should pay because the content was never yours in the first place. - Yeah, refer to my point #2. it's not only that it makes the most sense that you purchase someone else's content that's not given to you for free, and which you like and consume. They don't need to create something enticing just to make you pay for consuming something that belong to them. It's something that you are morally, ethically, and in some countries, legally, expected to do.

Ooooh yes.... i forgot, they said the staff is so e x p e n s i v e and they have to pay "fair" wages... (apparently fairer than qidians?) meanwhile they skimp on the translators wages
Sooo... Tencent must to be very happy or unhappy about the extra payments, as webnovel is pushing hard o_ô
I'll support the service more, when they become reasonable.

Web novels' market internationally is not (yet) as mature as its counterparts in China. There are much more Chinese web novels' readers than the rest of the world. One in every three people in China reads web novels, and the biggest online literature publisher there is Qidian. So they can afford the much cheaper prices there.
And no, I'm not the one in denial, like a frog in a pot. But suit yourself. Go ahead and call me whatever you want because when the argument is lost, slander becomes the tool of the losers. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Cantiara just because I can afford it doesn't mean I should pay the stand giving out free samples at the mall if the pizza next door tastes perfectly fine and is a fraction of the cost.
But at the same time, I won't try to walk past every 5 minutes attempting to collect a free entree even if I wished the entrees were free.

I'll be clearer here: Once a user decides to support an author by unlocking privileged chapters you cannot use the fast passes anymore. Sure on a different novel, but actually supporting your favorite authors means you can no longer unlock any chapters with the free passes.

We will see I suppose. WN has gone through quite a few different approaches now and if this isn't what works I'm sure they'll change it again. I guess you can attack me for saying this probably won't work, but you seem to be against the core of webnovel, which is that this is a free reading app.

There were ads you had to watch to open chapters, and that was a lot of traffic.
Btw now app eats a lot of battery and more traffic even so i read less here, guess who gets free adv traffic? Your ignorance doesn't equal to everyone's. They do hey money from "free users" , just make you think you owe them more.

If with ss you could but em with either payed or free ss, with free pass you can only pay coins. And now she's much further ahead in her favourite novels she has now useless for her free pass.

Can't WN just copy Wattpad's approach..? As in ads after word count limit is reached on the end of a chapter? Membership = no ads? Have specificlly pay or free option for authors on their novels where free only shares fraction of ad views vs pay where its like spirit stones? Seems a lot less work t-t

They taken it down beacuse it greatly limited income of most of the authors. It seems that you think that the monetisation is made to suit the readers, but it's not. If you want authors to keep publishing and translators to keep translating, they need to get enough money for doing so.

This is not a free reading app. This is a subscription-based service. Yes, you can read absolutely for free, but that's ONLY because WN gives freebies. Not because you are entitled to do so.

No, they are not. If company gives freebies, then you are allowed to use them. But if you go to the pirate sites to read in advance chapters that are locked while you don't have enough fast passes... Then sorry, but thats just what you are.

You can support authors by unlocking chapters with the coins instead of fast passes. Privledge IS MEANT to be exclusively for premium users, hence its name.

If you are going to write something, then do some damn research. It's not that hard.
Average ad generates about 0.2-0.3 worth of SINGLE coin. Average premium chapter costs 7-10 coins to unlock. It's not a buisness model that can be sustained, no matter how much people like you will rant.

Like above, ads not give nearly enough money. You guys look at this in one dimension, make it cheap for us. But what about authors? If they implemented such models, most of them would move somewhere else, as no full-time writer can afford to write for HOURS DAILY to get like 50$ per month.
