Webnovel strikes again
- Edited
I'd like to say something unbiased, not favouring any contracted author or free reader in particular.
Dear free readers,
I fully understand that you are unable to pay to read your favourite novels due to a lack of funds, and that you all depend solely on fast passes. You have every right to be enraged at Webnovel over the fast pass issue.
However, you must understand that Webnovel has its own reasons for making this move, correct?
And why do you demand a substitute/alternative for Webnovel if you love this site and its books so much that you chose Webnovel to read books in the first place?
Is this a sign of your loyalty and dedication to the app?
Is this your Love for your favourite novels and comics?
"In the twenty-first century, nothing is open! Nothing comes for free!" But you're all getting a few fast passes, right? Isn't that a good thing to be happy about? I know that it's less but that's alright, what's the harm in reading those genre books with single-work FP ?
You cannot enjoy everything for free, right ? However, every Web Novel & Comics gives you the first few chapters for free. Isn't that good enough for you? Have you ever appreciated Webnovel for that ? —NO!
Don't get me wrong, but please, dear readers, try to see the bright side of this situation. Webnovel must have a legitimate justification for making this decision.
As a free reader, if you can't afford to pay, that's great, but at the very least, respect and help your Author's work by avoiding piracy sites and other Webnovel alternatives.
There are authors out there who are writing chapters at all hours of the day and night, even though they are working or studying, only to provide you with chapters so that you can continue to support them.
Have you ever considered your authors' feelings, and how they'll respond if they see you going to a pirate site to read their book for free?
You're all vying for a single fast pass that has been removed from Daily check-in.
Have you ever thanked Webnovel for the three fast passes you used to get? I already know the answer: NO!
You're so self-centered and Selfish! And now you're clamouring for something better for nothing, but free?
Tell me, Why should Webnovel fulfil your demands for free ?
I enjoy reading on Webnovel, and as a reader, I believe Webnovel provides plenty of fair resources for free readers.
I understand that my words would have no impact on you, but just consider asking the following questions to yourself:—
1. If you were an author, did reading the above comments of yours hurt you?
2. If you were Webnovel, would you give away all of the books for free and let the authors make no money out of their books ?
3. How would you feel if someone took your chapters, which you wrote with your talent and time, and made them available for free on their websites in exchange for money for their earning ?
If all of the responses make you sad, you can imagine how your writers are feeling right now.
Please realise that as a free reader, you are getting more than enough. If you're not giving something back, don't press for more.
imagineTishaD yeah and consider that there is really little to no ads in webnovel lol.
ExodusGaming555 Exactly !!
FREE READERS:—
Let me point out that you are all getting plenty of equal resources:—
- 2 fast passes per day
- Initial chapters are free up to 40 chapters.
- You are not interrupted by ads
- Regular updates on all original novels.
imagineTishaD Not only was that biased against free readers but it was extremely long. 7/10 good opinion but instantly goes back on what they said

PopRocknRoll Does anybody know of ANY alternative for webnovel? Which has all the benefits of it but at least less downsides? Cause future looks bleak for me for a non-paying reader.
Psst, kid! Have you heard of -
imagineTishaD Are you unable to explain your thoughts without using five (or whatever) styles? Do you believe that using bold, italics or big letters make your speech more impressive?
Too bad, this excessive use of font styles only makes your text unreadable
BTW, everyone, when was the last time you've got a refund for trial reads? I feel that I haven't got any refunds for a really long time

MotivatedSloth Aren't you that psycho bitch who loves sucking off the Qi higher ups in the disguise of pro author propaganda? I though we had you on a leash. Where are your keepers, you veritable mad dog?
To OP sadly this is just par for the course as they take away our option to chose what we want to use the FP on and contine to reduce by making the reward for a weeks worth of dedication exp, which has almost no value. The only reason they don't go full pay is that they know web novels are too niche to survive the American market.

Lmfao, even I don’t dare to poke the Sloth in fear of his 20 page essays so what gave you the courage?)))

I'm not sure how you guys can admit that you are free/non-paying readers and then unironically demand for more fast passes, options and free stuff. Like...okay? Do you go to a bookstore and demand that the cashier gives you free books, otherwise you threaten to shoplift or steal or plagiarize the books or obtain free pirated copies elsewhere?
I mean, what makes you think you are in any position to demand for anything when you are not paying for anything in the first place? I don't walk into a restaurant and whine about how they are cutting down options from the menu and not giving me a free meal just because, I don't know, they offer free samples? If they stop offering free samples or reduce the number of samples, maybe I will just stop visiting the restaurant. But I certainly won't make a big fuss, accusing the chef of being "greedy", whine about not being able to get more free daily samples and threaten to steal food from the kitchen instead of going through the front door. As if going through the front door for samples makes me entitled to having a say on how the restaurant runs its business. I'm not going to delude myself to believing that the chef cares about me and will do whatever he can to ensure I continue visiting his restaurant to get free daily samples. Because that's not how the world works. Most likely he probably wouldn't even notice that I'm gone.
Now, if you're a paying customer, I can understand. If you're complaining about the quality of the work, the lack of updates, and the awful translations despite paying for a product with your hard-earned cash, I think it is perfectly understandable. After all, you paid for a product, and you didn't get what you pay for.
If you complain that the stuff here is expensive, I can relate to that. After all, that already suggests that you plan to pay for the products and will do so if it's cheaper. That's fine. Right now we are searching for ways to that. I will see if I can discuss with my content editor to implement better deals or pay models (buying coins nets you more fast passes or bonus coins or something).
But right now, you are saying, "I don't want to pay for anything (because I can't afford to or I don't want to), but you must give me free stuff!" You're not even asking for cheaper costs, you are jumping straight to "I want free stuff!" If I hire you to work in my office, but don't pay you a salary because I "can't afford to", would you be happy about that? Why would you waste several hours a day working for me if you're not getting anything in return? Similarly, why the f would Webnovel listen to you and give you free stuff when you are not contributing anything, not paying any money or not offering anything in return? Why would authors spend hours working to create more content just so you can read their stories for free? And now you're threatening to plagiarize my story or read it on a pirate website to my face? Look, I don't care if you read my story on another pirate website (at least be discrete about it), but you have the audacity to use that to threaten me to give you more free chapters? What the f?!
TheCatterHatter Letting you know webnovel don't get to greedy that will make people plagiarize the books here or go to another sit :/
Just look at the comment above. Pretty rich, calling Webnovel greedy when you're demanding for more free stuff and even threatening to pirate and plagiarize stuff without wanting to pay for anything. Have you looked in the mirror?
Wait, what? You increase the traffic to the site? My story gets more views? But what does more traffic or views do for me, exactly? So should I use the excuse, "I'm allowing you the opportunity to gain more work experience!" to not pay you any salary while you do office work for my company?
Think about that for a second.

Tomoyuki Wait, what? You increase the traffic to the site? My story gets more views? But what does more traffic or views do for me, exactly?
Traffic and views gives you popularity, which in turn attracts new and potentially paying readers for your story?

You literally described an internship lol
P.S. I’ll be honest, these two quotes is all I read from your post, so I might be taking things out of context here)

Sythcake Traffic and views gives you popularity, which in turn attracts new and potentially paying readers for your story?
Not very convincing when you threaten me with "if you don't give me free chapters, I'll plagiarize your story and read it on a pirate site." Kind of defeats the purpose of getting "potentially paying readers" when I have to give more free chapters because non-paying readers demand for it. By the time those "paying readers" show up, I would have dropped the story long ago because it's unviable for me to keep writing it.
As for internships, most interns are paid...and for those who aren't paid for their internships...well, I'm sorry, but just an advice: don't take unpaid internships. They literally exploit you.

I’m not familiar with the exact statistics so I won’t comment on what type of internship is more common but more often than not, you’re better off taking up an unpaid internship. Since those usually provide an actual learning experience unlike their paid counterpart - which is only seeking ridiculously cheap labor aka. literally exploiting you.
Either way, it doesn’t change the fact that you described an internship.)
Sythcake P.S. I’ll be honest, these two quotes is all I read from your post, so I might be taking things out of context here)
Providing you the context, and you call me a liar. What the f.
Sythcake I’m not familiar with the exact statistics so I won’t comment on what type of internship is more common but more often than not, you’re better off taking up an unpaid internship.
Around 43% of internships are unpaid. ... Paid internships are 34% more likely to lead to at least one job offer after graduation versus unpaid internships. Among 2019 graduates, 66% of them who went through a paid internship got a job offer. Only 43.7% of graduates with unpaid internships received job offers.
So...uh, do your research before making such claims?
Tomoyuki Providing you the context, and you call me a liar. What the f
You literally said that I threatened you, which I didn’t. Falsely accusing people is in no way an appropriate way to provide context.

I apologize for not being specific enough so let me take this chance to elaborate. I was describing the situation as how it stands in first world countries. wink wink

Sythcake i think what he meant in threathen is if free readers threathen him with the content above, he just miss type the free readers to you lol

As ExodusGaming55 said, I didn't mean you as in literally "you" but the readers I was talking about in my context in general. Sorry for the ambiguity. It's a habit of mine to refer to the general audience in second person.
I assume you mean that America isn't a first world country now?

Yap, I was worried that I’m being too ambiguous with the joke but glad that you got it.)) I don’t truly believe that ‘Murcia is not a first world country but it is being commonly referred to as Dumbfuckistan for a reason.
As for the internships, it is a broad topic that is affected by a lot of different factors that I have neither the interest nor the qualifications to dive deeply into. So I suggest we drop it at this point.

Cuz in the end, you still did describe a type of internship in your original post! Evil Laugh

No worries, I was mostly screwing around with you. Just was a bit salty that you kinda generalized all the free readers together with the idiot that originally wrote that crap.)
Well to be honest, i do agree that free readers really can't demand much to webnovel to give more freebies and the likes. Free pass and other rewards were already quite generous as there really is no ads in this site/app which is the main/major income for most site/app.
But i also agree that free users still can demand things like quality content, the fulfilment of promises, etc. This thing is not only the free readers right but all readers right. So many trial reads that honestly was chosen with (mostly) bad criteria in mind, some people complain about not getting coins from unchoosen trial reads, and many other things that i couldnt begin to list was things they rightfully allowed to demand. Those problems(and many more) i just listed was things that damages the platform integrity and reputation, reducing readers, authors, and translators confidence in the platform which in turn slowly/fasten the destruction of the platform.
Remember, in ANY business, you need to mantain an ecosystem which all in it benefit. If not slowly that ecosystem will breakdown as more and more of its components leave/die and no balance could be created. Once it break down, it will be a near impossible dream to rebuild it again.
There is a reason why things like genshin impact can flourish greatly in a short time and create a huge amount of fan base in it.
