I'm worried about the rules of promotion. How can we promote our story? If I share that with my insta friends, then it'll be considered self-promotion?

Generally there's a pinned promotion thread for promoting your book here, likewise one if you want to do review swaps. Outside of webnovel its up to yourself how you want to promote. Facebook, discord, BBS...it's really up to yourself... though some common sense should key in there. An example would be promoting your book on sites that have nothing to do with the subject, or say going to gaming forums to spread your written word. Some of it should be no brainer things buttttt time has proven that some people need to be reminded that regardless of good intent, unrelated material is mostly just spam in unrelated mediums.

Similar with going to other book distribution platforms like wattpad or whatever, they have their own rules so acquaint yourself with them before trying to redirect traffic off their site... some don't mind... others ban with extreme prejudice.

maryam_library You can definitely use other platforms to promote your novel, such as sharing chapters. You may NOT share locked/premium chapters (the ones that uses coins to unlock) in any other site but WN if you are exclusively contracted with them.
As far as this Webnovel Forum, you only can promote in Shameless Promotion, Review Swaps, and if a reader is asking for novels to read- keep in mind it must meet their requirements for you to promote your novel.

You are even allowed to post your novel in other platforms, but now depends on the contract. I would recommend you Neovel, since it pay your novel for chapters content and views. Royal Road it is also a good choice, but you have to send evidence that it is your novel. GoodNovel and Wattpad are also a good decision
