  • You guys need a better way of deciding which novel goes premium.

Ok first of all I'm not whining about the premium system, thats a discussion that's happened too many times already.

What I wanna know is if the novels that go premium are based on popularity? or length?

Some novels like LoHP and RTW are 100% premium worthy no regret spending my stones to read those, but what about trashy novels like Rebirth of the guardian or War Sovereign Soaring the Heavens these novels are always full of repetition of things we know and chapters with no plot progress. Not worth the premium price. So yeah, there should be a better way to pick which novels go premium.

I thought it was update speed/view count that decided it but Swallowed star just went premium and it has infrequent updates, sometimes less than 1 update a week.

It isn't even some of their top novels or Shadow Hack would be a premium.

Swallowed Star was always rock solid in releases UNTIL it went premium. If the translator happened to miss a few days he would make up for it in a batch post. Pretty much as professional as it comes and built up a huge patreon due to that professionalism.

Then the translator was fired because he didn't agree with losing the thousands of dollars each month in income that premium was going to cost him.

        inovade2 Not now.
For now no translators are making money from the premium system

Translators aren't making anything from it currently. It has varying effects depending on how much extra money the translator made from patreon. The more patreons they had, the worse the affect. That's why the immortal mortal translator (lost over 1/3 of his income) complained about it and WSSTH old translator quitting over (among other reasons). Atm, those translator that had a huge patreon following are pretty much making less money for the same amount of work. It wouldn't be surprised if some of the translator are demoralized due to it.

The only positive is that from the WSSTH translator quitting post is that QI (rather CKtalon) revealed that a royalty contract in works in 2-3 months. The downside (there always is) is they lose the guaranteed fixed pay in the process. It could be a boon for the popular novels, but ill-advised for non-popular ones because they can end up making less money for the same amount work.

Atm there isn't real financial incentive for tls to give extra effort into tling more chapters.

On topic, I mean QI has actual data on views/ss usage/power stone/etc on each novel so they have a much clearer idea on which novels should go premium. It's doesn't matter if you don't like a novel (WSSTH/Rebirth), QI has enough data to have a good inkling that they make more $$$ by having that novel go premium.

Lazybum Actually, it has been in the works for 2-3 months. It will be out by the end of this month, barring any unforeseen circumstances (there was one last month when the contracts were done but needed redoing). So there isn't that much more of a wait actually.
