True_Seeker Most translators & editors here on Webnovel don't know what consistency & quality are. They keep on changing terms every few chapters & fail to edit even basic spelling mistakes.

I have encountered this nationalistic and racism trend several times already. I stomach it for some time, until I can't anymore.
Take "I'm Really a Superstar" for example. It was so super ultra nationalistic that I eventually dropped it, and it's still one of the more popular novels here in quidian international. There is only one rule in web novel community: the writer is paid to satisfy the readers. If the readers are tired of these things, the writer would not write that (like what is happening now, the pure nationalism is not welcome anymore).

Hating your own is an issue, but the opposite is normal, and everyone thinks they are superior or atleast they want to be. Animes always make USA as the final boss. USA always makes it about them. So I don't see why a Chinese novel's Chinese MC won't do the same.

Anybody just kinda think that maybe they just write what they are familiar with?
Author would have to do research and write a proper novel to convey that type of setting and still keep the focus n the characters.
Plus a good portion of web/light novels are transmigration type.The transmigrator is going to miss home! They normally go to "similar" yet alternate world so they know language and need less mcguffins. The authors are usually creative amateurs. How many teeth you want the gift horse to have?
Hard enough to keep plot holes from becoming an abyss without adding a culture you are unfamiliar with and even more so an ancient time in that culture. If I wrote in tsalagi about cherokee setting the novel would be dull with daily life and use 3000 pages for 10 chapters because our word combinations!
Following this, I have been lucky to not stumble on that many blatantly propagandist stories. I don't mind asian-centric theme in a story by an asian author about an asian person plopped into an asian alternate world <_<. There is one that person is reincarnated in an ancient Russian culture and another becomes a viking.

Actually I don't mind their homesickness. As long as I know they are not trying to brainwash me, but only wanting to appeal to their readers, who are supposed to be Chinese and those who can read Chinese, it's okay.
In fact, I appreciate it. Through these novel I learn who they are and what they are about. Though these are fictions, I can still learn something.
It's like finally getting to taste pure Chinese food and finding out its very different from Chinese fusion food I'm used to. Some people will reject it as it didn't suit their taste bud. Some might even feel offended as the food is against their culture or religion.
But those who demanded to be served something that suit their taste is like asking for fusion food. Maybe you could try be a little more understanding of their culture first before taking offense? And if you can't stomach it, leave it alone. There is no need to criticize them for what they are.
