  • Max255 Our hands are really tied in this. The "paragraph" issues that you brought up is actually strictly following the paragraph by the author. In order to fix it, we would have to request the translators to merge the sentences in order to allow the sentences to flow better. However, after speaking to Webnovel, we were advised to not do so as it would create an internal issue so we have no choice but to leave it as it is.

It's our responsibility to ensure the translation is done accurately. It's in our best interest to ensure the novel gains the popularity that we want it to gain, however, due to the limited influence of our translation group, we are not able to do so.

    • Max255 We want a good experience while and now there's all gaps everywhere.

Honestly, the issue isn't actually with the translator but more with the author. I had the translator and editor do small changes in order to make it look more smooth after chapter 60. If we were to change the all the earlier chapters, we can do that. The issue though is that we might have to deviate a little bit from the original. As I said, the actual chapters are a bit all over the place.

      • KoraL The decision to pick up dropped novels are made by respective translation groups. Picking up discontinued novels generally means you are taking a huge gamble on whether you can potentially make any money whatsoever. Some people do it in hope to earn extra, others do it because it's what they want to do.

As of right now, Exodus Tales only has Almighty Video Game Designer and Phoenix Destiny as part of this "passion" project.

      • Rocketduh Astral Pet wasn’t put into Voting Pool was because of other reasons that I don’t know of

        • Mute novels on trial reading are paid for by Webnovel and a way for them to assess the popularity of each book. Novels that pass trial reading are also paid by webnovel. Novels that got dropped but picked up as a passion project by a translator are not paid by webnovel but more of webnovel sharing an equity of the total revenue with the translator

          • TrueGodOfExp Translators spend a lot of time translating novels and many have this as their part time or even full time
Job. A novel that earns next to zero isn’t plausible because there’s no way anyone is able to live that way

            • Hatake_Shirou Hello

              - does wn pay the original authors of the stories which are being translated and is there proof of that?

Webnovel has a contractual obligation to pay the original authors of the translated stories a certain percentage of the share. I, unfortunately, do not have anything I can show you as a lot of these are under a Non-Disclosure Agreement, however, feel free to message the author about it and hopefully they can give you an answer. Authors also tend to ask us as translators to change different names and such, that's usually how we know that these authors do care about the translated stories, otherwise, why would they bother?

-As a result, considering most of these novels are readily available to read online as most of them are only making some money through donations by fans, I worry that these are being translated and then earned of without permission.

These are mainly translated by fan translators and you are correct in that they do not give any part of the translation or the ad revenue for that matter, to the original authors. All novels translated and published on Webnovel are generally speaking sharing a profit with the original authors.

              - Which is a major wall that keeps me from applying for a membership on webnovel as I have seen nothing to show me its on the up and up...

If your biggest concern is that the original authors are not getting a profit of the revenue, then as long as you are willing to support their books on Webnovel, then they are definitely receiving a part of this revenue.

            • Hello! My name is Tofu and I'm responsible for this novel.

              Let me explain a little bit how novel selection works at Webnovel;

Webnovel will essentially pay translators to continue novels that are more popular, such as those that were selected during Trial Reading. However, novels that was not selected during Trial Reading will therefore not get paid for. Therefore, whenever you see dropped novels being put on Voting Pool, it means WEBNOVEL is not paying for it. This is PURELY because the Translator wants to continue the book out of their own interest. Please don't give the book bad reviews just because translators for other dropped books are not willing to continue their books.

                • The message was basically the author for RSSG is on a hiatus and the translation has caught up to the raws. We won't be seeing any new chapters for a while

                  • We actually made an official announcement on one of the latest chapters but basically. Udeze, the former translator of Returning from the immortal world passed away a few weeks ago from a heart attack. This was the reason behind why there was a stop in chapter releases. The people currently translating this novel are his close friends as I felt that this was quite a sentimental project and would only be appropriate for people who knew him well to finish the rest. There's only about 56 chapters left.

                    • Hello.

I understand there are many people who are asking why there haven't been any new chapter updates for Returning From The Immortal World. First of all, I do want to apologize to all readers who may have spent the extra money for the privilege for RFTIW, I understand your frustration when you pay for a product and yet don't receive the extra benefit that comes with it. I'll have to continue the bad news by saying that the last 56 chapters of RFTIW will also be updating quite slowly.

The reason why there have been no updates recently is that the official translator who has been working on Returning From The Immortal World since the very beginning, Udeze, passed away last week Wednesday 27th of May from a heart attack. He did not leave behind any stockpiles so we've been finding a replacement to translate RFTIW in his place.

Udeze has been an extremely valuable member of Exodus Tales ever since the creation of our group and even before when we were all together in Gravity Tales. The income that he would receive from RFTIW went toward funding the orphanage operated by him and his wife. Udeze was an active member of our group and constantly provided valuable wisdom and advice to many of his peers. Many of us are disheartened by his sudden passing. Exodus Tales has thus made a donation along with the translators toward Udeze's orphanage. We may be setting up a gofundme page here a bit further down the line but for now, we thought we owed the readers at least an explanation on why there have been no updates. Thank you for reading.

                    • junsiyao From my understanding, it seems like you are looking to contract with Webnovel correct?

Webnovel only works with translation groups nowadays, and even then, they only work with select few. I don't think know if they are looking to expand their selection of Vietnamese translation groups. So to answer your initial questions:

Is a Vietnamese translator entitled to sign a contract?
From what I know, Webnovel stopped contracting individual translators, instead, they are more focused on finding a translation group.

*What are the requirements for signing a contract?
No requirements other than above mentioned, a translation group most likely will have to be an incorporated company.

Does the current Vietnamese novel segment still employ translators?
Check with your previous translation group (if they work with Webnovel) or check what groups are currently doing Vietnamese translations and ask if they have spots available.

                    • Update: Udeze just responded to me. He said he had a high fever in the last few days but it’s getting better now, he’s on his way to full recovery. I’ve told him to take some time off to rest up.

                    • In your perspective, what constitutes in a Translator? Are you a hobby translator translating a Vietnamese novel to English on Webnovel or are you employed by someone to translate it?

                      • Hello!

We are aware of RFTIW not being updated very frequently this month, and I am aware many of you have most likely invested money to read chapters in advance. We are very sorry that this happened to you and we will do our best to catch up. Unfortunately, catching up won't be possible at this moment due to the translator being sick.

The translator for RFTIW, Udeze notified me a few days ago explaining that he had been tested positive with the all too familiar COVID-19. The symptoms during that time was described as being relatively light. I've been trying to be in touch with him in the last few days, but I haven't gotten any responses from him. Due to this, I'd like to assume that he is currently going through a bit of difficulty. As RFTIW is very close to the end, the translator's wishes was for him to completely finish the translations on by himself. Due to that, I will not replacing him for the moment. I will keep everyone updated with this situation as soon as I've gotten a response from him.

Thank you everyone for your patience and stay safe during this difficult time.

                        • Trigger2931 Our group is always looking for editors and translators, if you are interested in becoming an editor/translator with us, you can apply for the test through inkstone and put in Exodus Tales as the preferred group to work with.

                          • Hello. I'm the one responsible for the translators for ATW, I will be going through the chapters to ensure the quality has been met and changing it accordingly. I have also notified the translators to regularly check the quality and change the errors. I will be paying attention to this thread in case you guys have more things to report, thank you for letting us know!

                            • Mute Could you specify on where exactly it started going downhills? We had new translators joining, and they only recently started releasing. I just need to make sure whether it was the old ones or the new ones.

                              • Hello! I will be looking into this. Thank you so much for letting us know.
