UnhingedTaboo I actually like them being all knowing. It makes them seem more capable and it’s better than being dumb as f&ck. Like the mc from overgeared. But I wholeheartedly agree with the harem bit. I hate how they just accept sharing their lover like it’s only natural. It’s worse that all of them are top class beauties with talent, skill and background but fall over themselves for a guy. Like they’ve never been hit on. Even if the guy’s amazing if she has to share him I think she could easily find a better man. One who while not as strong is still a catch who wouldn’t cheat on her. In the real world no capable woman would agree to sharing their man.

I also hate the situation when the author adds a harem member through rape or aphrodisiac. Especially when he had a perfect girl waiting for him( I’m talking about you btth). It’s fine to have girls like him but don’t cross the line and make them irreversible with such a tasteless method that neither the readers nor characters would like. Who would enjoy that? This isn’t hentai. I also hate what happened to SOTR. Jiang Chen got an ideal girl who I felt was a perfect match for him but then some loser drugged him and made her the mistake he could never run from. Sad thing is no one did anything wrong except for the guy that drugfed him. When he finds out he’s not gonna be happy and the girl will feel guilty when all she did was save his life. Seeing JC’s virtual omniscience so far especially with drugs how could he not see through this? This was just the horndog of an author wanting the mc to finally get laid when he would have been fine without it.

UnderTaker26 Wait, I must be missing something. BTTH he didn't drug a girl? There was a time when SPOILER yiyi and him where in a cave and she made some food that had an aphrodisiac in it by accident, but the MC was able to resist along with the girl the temptation for each other. Then with Medusa it was due to the heavenly flame absorption going wrong and his mind was lost and he instinctively embraced her to settle the cause. At that point she basicly was developing feelings for him but was being tsundere about it, I'm sure she could have smashed him at that point she was still a stronger character had she really wanted? Even after it was done she didn't make a huge deal out of it like some books with MC raping girl and then the hate turning into love later or some such. SPOILER END

Xiao Yan lost his reason and turned one of the few good romances and made it a harem like all the others for no reason. Is the girl going to be happy getting her man like this? Is the man going to be happy betraying his love like this? The whole concept is just plain tasteless to me and ruins whatever romance the series has. I mean this in all novels not just btth.

Wabbitz that’s also one of the reasons why I like I Eat Tomatoes stories. His romance is terrible but at least it’s monogamy. Plus the major draw of his stories is the fighting and his world building is pretty good too and I absolutely love all his main characters. They’re talented, hardworking and have a stable personality.

This doesn’t apply to webnovels so much as anime, manga and stories in general but I hate when main characters have amazing abilities but never get a payday or are always in debt. These people are the most amazing beings in the planet but they can’t even pay for their livelihoods or barely make ends meet? There’s something inherently wrong about that.

Hard to balance an MC with absolute power. So I suppose being poor at start or having a personality quirk is the authors attempt at attempting to balance and failing (subjectively)? Better throw random women in there to give some flavor.
It's like making a Powerpuff Girl, instead you start with the Chemical X and then toss in the Sugar, Spice, and everything nice; not the other way around.
Wabbitz personality quirk I approve but being poor I despise. Take goku for instance, Even if he doesn’t get sponsors and such for his strength he could gather the dragonballs in a week or less. He could wish to be rich but he’s even let the dragon leave with wishes remaining. He even forgot to revive king kai. Dbs super killed goku for me and almost the entire season. Most of these people have ways to get rich but don’t do so for what I see as a poor attempt at comedy which I wish they’d drop as it belittles the character who may have even saved the world.
