I know this synopsis make no sense so this is the translation of chapter one:
After the spring shower ended, the city of Barcelona was greeted by rays of sunlight whose passion could only be rivalled by the Barcelonans alone.
The breeze sweeping the city carried with it the saltiness unique to the sea and every cobbles on the city street was bathed in the sun.
Lian Yin bent down among a cluster of flowerpots to pick out a white arum lily before straightening up with a satisfied smile. She turned to make sure her mother was still busy making flower arrangement before sneaking out of the little florist shop.
In front of the shop was the famous backpackers street where backpacking artists attracted the gaze of the tourists who came to this city with their unique talents. There were quite a few Chinese faces among the crowd but Lian Yin, who was in a bright red Tang outfit, stood out as the most conspicuous walker on the street that morning.
The thing that attracted people’s attention was not only her unique Tang outfit but also her sweet and kind face.
The business owners of the street more or less knew her and some called after her as she went past their shops. The few owners who she was friends with even jokingly referred to her as the China doll.
Whenever, they called her that, Lian Yin would blush shyly like a girl from Ancient China and bowed at them while greeting them with a bright “Hola”, mixing both her eastern and western heritage. They would be tickled happy whenever she did that.
Lian Yin would laugh with a blush before going on her merry way.
Lian Yin’s destination that morning was at the end of the street, a square where the statue of Columbus pointed forever at the direction of the New World—The Old Marina.
This was because her target might finally appear at The Old Marina that day.
[Stop Stop Stop] Just as Lian Yin was going to saunter into Columbus Remembrance Square, her system partner, Lu Qipa suddenly commented.
Lian Yun stopped walking and used her internal voice to ask Qipa, “You have found the target?”
[That’s right. Fifty meters on your right, the person sitting on the bench. Isn’t that the person you’re looking for?]
Lian Yin followed Qipa’s direction and she found a little boy about ten year old sitting on the bench facing the Mediterranean Sea.
The boy had a head of semi-long brunette hair that fell freely over his head and his features were delicate like a girl. He was wearing a football jersey and sports shorts. He sat above his folded knees and looked out into the sea with a blank expression. Beside him was a patched up soccer ball that had seen better days.
Lian Yin strode to stop in front of the young boy, blocking his view completely. This managed to draw the boy out of his reverie and he promptly rewarded Lian Yin with an arrogant gaze.
Meeting his brown gaze, the little boy’s life seemed to flash in Lian Yin’s eyes.
Frank, history’s youngest and most expensive soccer star, committed suicide from depression when he was only twenty-three.
He was supposed to be the soccer world’s biggest star but his star was snuffed out before it could even glow.
[Congratulations for activating your mission. My guide mission has been completed, I will leave the rest to you.] Luqi said happily because he had done his job. He would free until Lian Yin finished the mission, no matter it ended in success or failure.
Lian Yin mumbled a nondescript harrumph, it was her acknowledgement of his help.
Before disappearing, Qipa did not forget to encourage her, [This is your first mission after you signed your new contract, so all the best!]
“Thank you.”
Qipa said his farewell before disappearing from Lian Yin’s mind.
Lian Yin and Qipa’s conversation lasted barely a second. The sitting boy lowered his head after giving Lian Yin that arrogant stare. It was to hide the sadness in his eyes.
To fix his life, Lian Yin had to help him get out of the depression’s entrapment.
Lian Yun offered a smile as she planted the white arum lily on his legs.
The little boy was visibly taken aback as his gaze fell on the flower.
“This is my present to you, I hope you will like it.” The flower message of white arum lily was youthful energy.
The little boy still spoke no words, Lian Yin could only stare at the top of his head.
“May I know your name?”
Silence.
“Do you like soccer? Are you a soccer player?”
Another silence.
“My name is Lian Yin, eleven years old, what about you?”
Still silence.
Lian Yin raised her brow with intrigue. Could it be that Frank was autistic? The only information she had on him was he was eleven, the same age as she was.
She churned her brain trying to figure out a way to make him lift his head. Noticing the Columbus statue that was not far away, she opened her mouth to say, “Hey, do you know? Life is not only the thing we see in front of us but also poems and the future.” Even though she meant for it to sound philosophical, it just sounded like a memorized aphorism coming from her little girl’s mouth. After all, which young child talked like that? She was tickled fancy by how ridiculously pompous she sounded and she couldn’t help but blurted out a giggle.
It was this giggle that finally made the little boy raise his head.
Of course, the boy thought this rambunctious girl before him was making fun of him so he gave her another arrogant and annoyed stare.
Even though she saw the annoyance in his eyes, Lian Yin continued to smile at him. Before he again lowered his eyes, she quickly said, “Hey, I have recently learnt Tango, do you want to see it?”
Before the boy could say no, she started dancing.
The dance of Tango exemplified passion and freedom. The long Tango dress would open up like a blooming flower during the twirl. Naturally, it was not a good fit for Lian Yin who was in a Tang outfit, the result was weird and awkward.
The little boy pouted and frowned, he tried to avert his eyes without being too rude. This was the worst Tango performance he had ever seen in his life.
Lian Yin stopped after a while. She asked while gasping for air, “How was my dance?”
The boy did not want to answer but in the end, he could not help himself and critiqued directly, “It was horrible.”
This criticism did not rub Lian Yin the wrong way. After all, the purpose of her dance was to make the boy talk to her and on that front, she was successful.
She realized the boy has quite a melodious voice.
Lian Yin smiled and replied, “Well, I just learnt it so it is expected that it will not be good. In that case, how about you show you something I’m good at?”
The boy wanted to shoo her away but his lips were shut tight.
Lian Yin cleared her throat, made her fingers into an orchid shape and started singing Chinese Opera.
Her previous mission required her to be a Chinese Opera songstress so she had spent at least a decade perfecting the art form. Even though she had forgotten most of her training from her previous transmigrated life but she could still manage the basics.
The boy looked unblinkingly at this Asian girl singing this curious song that he had never heard before. Eastern culture still reserved a certain degree of mysterious allure to the westerners, so even though he could not understand what she was moaning about, nor could he understand the content of the song, it did not take away from his enjoyment.
The boy was not only her only audience because Lian Yin soon attracted many tourists to come appreciate the talent of this Chinese girl. Some of them clapped while others praised her in the familiar Chinese when she finished.
Lian Yin nodded her thanks at the gathered crowd before turning around to ask him, “What do you think? Is my singing good?”
This time, the boy nodded.
