An Open Letter To All Readers - From Your Dear Authors
thank you TT
Preach. If you are gonna demand so much, please write yourself.
Gourmet_DAO Since the original short story for novice authors is primarily a test - a test to see if the author will be able to develop the habit of writing at least 2500-3000 words a day or not. The goal is to write in 1 year - 1,000,000 words.
What a load of bs. There are no such goals. Not even webnovel sets such a goal. Test? What test? No there are no "tests", to see if an author will have a habit of writing 2.5k word chapters. My average is not even close to that, yet I have readers who support me. What is important to the readers ultimately, is not how many chapters you produce, but how well you produce them, and your schedule. I keep to my schedule, and that is that. If someone comes over and tells me "Dude, release more!", my answer is "Fu*k off".
I think that what yaoyueyi said is mostly true. Authors do struggle, and people simply don't appreciate our commitment. They simply crave "moaar!", yet they have no idea how hard it is to write something. Reader point of view? What bs is this? Obviously reader would love it, if Author abandoned all his/her social and private life, just to write for them. I myself already sacrifice a lot to write, and I don't intend to sacrifice even more.
What I will add to yaoyueyi argument, is that the authors need to be more firm with their audience. In other words, learn to say "fu*k off", when someone crosses the line. I have no problem telling someone "go read something else", if I see he or she doesn't enjoy my novel. There are many novels out there, not everyone will read yours. Just forget about those readers, and focus on what you have. That is my advice to the authors. As for the trolls or whatever, ignore. Believe in yourself and the people who support you, not an idiot who claims you can write 3k words a day no problem. Peace to all Authors and understanding readers :D

DarkRay This is your point of view, but do not impose it on others. You have your own goals, I have my own. You probably didn’t carefully read https://www.webnovel.com/book/10589139205070105/Book-of-Outnors or my English is not good enough that I did not understand correctly. But anyway, this is your vision, and I have it.
I have my readers, they read my not very good English text, because the material is interesting. I appreciate my readers. I have something to share. There is a lot of material, so I don’t see any big problems in sharing this information.
I am not saying that every author should write 2,500 words a day or write 1,000,000 words per year. It's my goal! I have a lot of material on the history of the Silk Road, probably enough to write all 5,000,000 words in a couple of years.
Thank you for sharing your opinion nonetheless.
P.S. If you treat your readers this way, then they will leave you. Readers make authors, otherwise, why write at all?
Gourmet_DAO It's not just my view, its basically the reality. You didn't say it was "your" goal, you generalised, and that is what I replied to. I'm not imposing my views on others, I only gave advice to authors who wish to come out of it with level head. Because ultimately? I would rather tell an author to drop something, than sacrifice his or her life or health, in order to satisfy the "readers".
You cite book of authors? Good luck with that then, hope it helps you. Great source of wisdom, let me tell you that much. You should check out the S.I.E chat group too, great source of information. I'm not trying to convince you here. I presented the reality to you guys, how you take it, it's up to you. Call it my views, opinions or whatever. You will not change the fact that authors do struggle, and readers simply demand. Now, not all readers of course, but because of the way webnovel is constructed, a lot of readers demand.
But hey, what do I know right? I'm just some dude. Either way, I'm just gonna stop here. No point arguing about something, that is not productive, right?
Gourmet_DAO Didn't see the "PS" before. So I will add this. Oh don't worry about my readers. Ask any of my regulars if I treat them well. Those I don't treat well, are idiots who think they know what they are talking about. I'm not here to satisfy readers. I'm here to publish my novel. Those that read and enjoy, I appreciate. Those that spout bs, they don't exist in my books. Whether they read or not, not my concern. And you know what? I'm a happy man. No stress, no worries. I very rarely get writer's blocks. Life is better, when you care less about such people.
Yes, we can understand. In this case maybe an open letter from readers not to delete good reviews to boost the quality score of authors story? Author are human too and I agree with the post.

DarkRay On the one hand, the author writes, because he has creative inspiration, like me, for example, who wants to share with other new information. On the other hand, readers are waiting for updates. The author is not required to die at the keyboard in an attempt to write a continuation of the chapters. But he can write 2-3 chapters a week and publish them according to his schedule. I set this goal for myself, other authors have their own heads and their own goals. What is the problem? It is your choice and you are not the victim of your choice.
These are the fundamentals of capitalism, the competition between the authors, I hope fair (without the use of black PR, paid trolls with 1 star reviews, and this happens). Readers ... well, I’m a reader myself, I built up IRAS and I look forward to continuing, but I won’t rush the translator, since I already know what this is from the point of view of the author. I am a reader, I look forward to continuing the story in which there are only 4 chapters of "My Daily Life". But I can’t rush the author, since creating chapters is a creative process.
DarkRay On account of being happy and don’t worry about rude readers who don’t have cultural communication skills, I agree with you. Nobody likes inadequate trolls. Be happy, fellow author, be happy fellow reader, do not worry about it, life itself is so beautiful that you should not waste your time squabbling with readers. Write while you have your stories. Well this is my philosophy. Success in creative work.
contracted here. I usually write 1-2 chaps a day, with the words ranging from 2-4k.
It's f**king hard to write this way, but I like writing my story.
I take a break when I can't think of a chapter and I just tell my readers that I can't write for that time.
I tried having a 1-week break too and that helped me out.
So yeah, having a break, even a momentary one helps.
I'm used to reading and writing and I can write 3000 words in roughly 1-2 hours. After editing it can increase 500-2000 more words. But when it comes to my story I tend to overthink and analyze because i want it to be as close to perfect as it can be so those hours get multiplied. I have a personal
belief that a reader wants quality over quantity, and with quality comes time. And I've never had writers block either I'm debating the next step of how the story is going to proceed or how to end the thing. Every now and then I do some literary consulting to help develop a composition, or just help solidify an approach to a story. Yep I love reading, the more I experience, the more I read, the more I see, the easier it is to write some new peice. Because of the exposure to different literary techniques, conceptual executions, every story has something to give, be it from a person or a text.
I share stories with friends, families, teachers, and random strangers that have time to read. I guess anyone I can drag into secretly reviewing my work.
But yeah never published. So this is a new experience for me. And I know I can't keep up with the updates, due to current dilemmas. So I'm finishing a good bit of the story to stockpile chapters. To give me time for updates.
Hehe just need to hit publish on this site and yep I become and author of webnovel. I'm dying, and excited to see how my little fun project does.
First as a avid reader i want to thank all the authors out there that can produce one chapter a day, as i have seen novels be updated once a week, that was the best that person could do, they had exams to complete family issues and more. So when an idiot shows up and demands more, my first thought 'F**k Off somewhere else'. In the end he had to drop it, that was sad, but the guys father died, and he got writing block. I supproted his decision he needed to soughtot his head if he wanted to keep writing. So i know that Authors have problems so if they want to drop it or go on hiatus i respect their decsion, because at the end of the day it is the authors right to drop a novel.
Second as a novice author, i myself have had trouble writing books(exams, family trips/problems) etc. Heck my biological father who i now hate the most, was arrested when i was writing, and when i get comments like "mor mor mor" or "if you dont update im gonna spam bad reviews" i just lose motivation and i dropped that book.
In the end all i want to say is, Readers if you can't deal with the authors schedule go somewhere else. To Authors i want to say, thank you for the amazing content you give us, if you can't update but get spamed ignore it foucs on what you need to do and forget the haters. I hope that if you write a book then you won't drop but if you do i understand. Just, thank you and i hope that you can keep up the hard work without pressure as i would hate to see any author get sick because they tried to hard.
(Sorry for the rant.)
I have a question that I'm hoping you authors can answer. How exactly does ink stone work? If I create a title, does the site give me options for book covers, or does it want you to upload your own cover? If I write a chapter, but I'm not ready to post it to the public yet (perhaps it needs editing) can I save it and post it when it is perfect? Sorry long text, but I can find no information about it on here.

Jassik219 yep you can save it. You can upload your own cover or use their options for covers. If you dont publish inkstone will save your progression. Just dont hit publish and your good. I have established several chapters and work on them in word doc for editing and writing before adding to inkstone.

Inkstone from what I know works this way.
For the creation your literary peice or application for work. When creating a book it provides you an outline for title. Genre, length, and so on, cover options will appear after creation or post creation depending on where you making it mobile or pc. You can continue working on title and other aspects continuously. Publication Is in your control, so only what is registered by site is saved instead of being published. For other other chapters can be edited even after publication, and so can the book cover. Covers can be chosen through ink stone or you can upload on, as long as it meets the criteria. And yeah. Data is collected based of views, donations, word publications etc.
This is a rough run through. The individual of this thread also has a cover tutorial thread if you wish to look at it.
this is so good..totally felt that especially the part where readers can read many words in a matter or minutes while it may take hours to write ;( I see a lot of "MORE CHAPTERS PLEASE!!! __ chapters aren't enough" comments and I just mentally facepalm..I try to write encouraging comments and tell them to take their time and prioritize their life over insensitive readers XD its good to see this post, thank you

You can write more, but this will affect the quality of the text. If you load just raw materials. I mean, I just wrote the text in English and immediately downloaded it. And if you check at least once, it will already take +1 hour, if you read the text and polish it + 1-2 days. If you also check the grammar +1 day. And in the end, the chapter will take time for at least 3.1 days to print. There are 2 chapters per week. If you write only raw materials + fluent 1 test of meaning, then 3 chapters per week.
Initially, when there were no health problems on the horizon of a father who was in intensive care in the summer, then a health problem for relatives, a search for a new job, payment of treatment bills and others. I could write raw materials of 2500-5000 words for 1 chapter and consistently for 2 months produced chapters of 3-4 per week. After that ... I was able to resume the release of chapters according to a given plan only two weeks ago. And so I wrote 1-2 chapters a week. Now I have a chapter of 550 to 750 words, very rarely 1,100 words.
The author is largely dependent on the external real world, if everything is fine there, then he can fulfill his promises to issue chapters a week at his own pace. If he has problems ... then it will turn out as it will.
