Today, senior brother is too steady had 377 fans with top three contributing 316 each.
My disciples are all villains had 289 fans with top three contributing 172 each.

So how did disciples get selected over it? Even with 60% of fans, senior brother would get more coins(longer chap= more coin per chap), not to mention it had more fans by 100.

Don't get me wrong, I quite like the villain disciples novel but if the system ain't gonna be followed, why create it? Moreover, disciples would probably have gotten selected next wk at any rate

Last week too, senior brother is too steady had 260 fans with top three contributing 316 each.
MMORPG: Divine monster transmutator (last week) had 245 fans with top three contributing 164 each.

How did MMORPG get selected last week? Similar to disciples, senior brother would have more coins even with 60% of its fan, not to mention it had more fans by 15.

I'm actually getting hella anxious because of this. I really hope My senior brother is too steady gets picked but knowing Webnovel they're probably going to choose another or boot it from the trial read despite it being so fucking good.

@CKtalon

Sorry to bother you, but you are pretty much the only staff with knowledge that actually replies.

Is there a reason why senior brother was passed over two times despite having more number of fans (377 vs 289 and 260 vs 245)? or are the books chosen based on trendiness of fans/coins instead of number/amount?

If they are just going to release what they want then they should just delete the trial read. This has happened In the past as well.

Water0202020 Because translating this book will cost a lot. There's a lot of negotiations behind the scenes. The word counts are on average 5000 (2x the usual chapter size), and can go up to 10,000 Chinese characters.
We do not want to translate it midway and then have to drop it.

CKtalon if u look at the views and reviews. A lot of people like it and will most probably spend money to read its premium content. And if they had to think about money then why did they introduced trial read??? They should have just done what they did befor.

1 ch/day would be great too as long as it could continue.
It was technically the book to have highest number of fans in both weeks, yet it seems unlikely to be TLed. That pretty much makes the trial system of readers choosing novels untrue

Water0202020 There's a reason why the book is still on Trial Reads while other books have already been removed. It will likely be translated.
1/day will not earn much because people will just Fast Pass the chapter away. That affects earnings.

binit They didn't think about money before Trial Reads was introduced, that's why books just appeared in the Voting Pool. Now, after a budget cut, money matters, so Trial Read is used to select profitable books.

So basically, the merit of longer chapters ended up being its curse ( ´•̥̥̥ω•̥̥̥` )

          7 days later

Well, the same thing happened this week too I guess. Absolute Teacher had 241 fans (246 coins per person to unlock all) and senior Brother had 448 fans (316 coins per person to unlock all), yet Absolute Teacher got picked over senior brother.

I can understand the reason behind it now, but it still feels quite frustrating.

Like even if they didn’t want to choose “senior brother” then they should have choosen “pet dragon” or “ i am a baller” which has better stats. But webnovel has to be a cunt and wont follow the results. at this point they should just delete trial read and release what they want. At least readers wont have false hope of their preferred book being released.

I knew this would happen when WN introduced fast passes... Either do what fan translators do (release long chapters in parts) or just scrap the FP system, at least the old spirit stone system did not have this problem of just being able to unlock some 25 coin chapter with just one token.

Also if you are having cuts in the budget you really need to go cry to Tencent and show them you have a VIABLE ROADMAP to being succesfull but you need INVESTMENT.

Also lol at "Senior brother being steady" being skipped 3rd time in a row.

              Trial read = Trash system

              PjBaek

You could also make fastpass be only worth 9 coins. So you would have to use multiple fastpasses to unlock chapter costing over 9 coins.

If it really is such a huge problem that people use fastpasses on expensive chapters...

PjBaek Back to the original SS system! get free coins/SS daily instead of FPs if it's that bad for long chapters lol

CKtalon but there are differences. 1 fast pass could be used to open 1 chapter with any cost size. For example, a chapter thats cost 3 ss/coins or a chapter that cost 57 ss/coins would still need only 1 fastpass to unlock. But free ss/coins are only useable by the sufficient amount needed. So if they only give free ss/coins (maybe 10) instead of 1 fastpass, they could open 3 chapters that cost 3 coins each, but they could not open even a single chapters that cost more than 10. So I guess each has their own plus and minus.

GegeSadewa It doesn't matter in terms of earning enough to translate such long-chapter books.

Regardless of which story is picked won't only 200-300 chapters be translated before it gets dropped. Isn't that the new trend?

                        Akabane

To me they seem to be doing more poorly than the novels webnovel picked before trial read.

Which is kinda damning for trial read.

Jeez if WN wants a fair earning of trial reads then they should make adjustments. For example, if they release a chap, the length of the chapters decides how much passes it cost. As such, if a chapter is around 1-1500 words, then that cost 1 fast pass. If 1501-3000 words the unlocking of fast passes should cost 2 fast passes. That way, they can have a stable earning of money in a book. Just think about it, people used alts to unlock a chapter. But if you change the system and had a single chapter consist of 3000 words cost 3 fast passes, even if those people who use alts(who only usually has 2 fast passes on their alt), they can’t unlock the complete 3000 words in a single chapter, hence, they can only be forced to unlock the chapter through coins. Of course, you going to adjust the cost of unlocking a chap in coins as well to balance the entire thing.

                          Benevolent_Daoist

Thing is fast passes earns nobody anything. They have ZERO monetary worth. Hence why the suggestion to make them 'worth' X amount of coins is never going to fly.

You can't judge the earning of a book by the number of fans.

If a person spent 1 coin, he would be counted as a fan

Imagine a book having 3 fans in a week, each giving 1 coin
While another book have one fan that gave 5 coins.

You will say book 1 is profitable as it have 3 fans as you can only see that, but only the insiders would know how much the book is actually earning which might be completely opposite to your expectations.

Reinherz If you're talking about looking at the comments on last Chapter to judge the paid readers that read that chapter then You can't.

Not all paid readers comment on last page or even on chapters. Out of 100 people, only 5-10 might comment. It just depends on how engaging that chapter is. Some books might have 10 readers out of 20 who feel like commenting while others can have 5 readers out of 30 that comment.

Other than the internal staff, no one can see how much a book is earning

As for the fan ranking, except the top 3, it don't show how much others spent on the book.
