I feel that romance should have its own tag and not added with the others each time on Female Lead side. (So people can see that not every FL is romance). And that Male Lead side should have a romance tag added.
Other than that, I don’t see the problem. They separated because some people want to read Male Lead way more than they want to read Female lead and vice versa. Plus it helps minimize the author receiving hate (especially for LGBTQ+ novels). I also feel that it was more on what gender MC a reader wants to read about. (Also your MC doesn’t have to be male or female.)
Webnovel is different from other sites, most readers, from what I seen, are not as accepting on here like other sites. If Webnovel changed things around and did like the other sites, then authors would be hit with a bunch of hate comments.
Every site has its flaw, its pro and cons, that is why it is good to read and write on other places too. You still have RoyalRoad (I barely found LGBTQ+ novels there from what I seen and searched), Scribble Hub, Tapas, Chrysanthemum Garden (only BL works), etc that has certain genres that are popular there and some barely written cause it is not accepted.

No. Non-binary means the person does not fit in the spectrum of female and male (masculine and feminine) identities. (It refers back to third gender or two-spirit (Indigenous term) during the old times). They are not inside the gender norms.
I’m terrible at explaining. But some non-binary people use they/them pronouns because being called she/her or he/him in not comfortable for some since they do not identify as either or they identify with both masculine and feminine identities.
Think in the way of androgyny.
It is also an umbrella term for agender (having no specific gender. Think of venom (he is an alien with no definite gender, his gender is who ever has him, and he can get pregnant; it is in the comics.
