I've read it a few times like when people talk about something and the author just writes " ** ". I don't even know what they mean. Should we imagine whatever we want? I can't exactly tell you where I'd read them, but I met them a few times in multiple novels.
What does " ** " mean in novels?
Good_Doggo It might be a censored word which the translator cannot figure out due to complete lack of context.
Okay, so there can be multiple different meanings. Sometimes they put that there for curse words, but other times they put them there to just leave a topic to the imagination of the audience. Like, for ages for different characters, sometimes they just want you to know they're a 30 something year old, so they put 3* years old. So they kind of just put stars there for the reader to just kind of make up that part of the story with their own mind.
lol.are you serious o__0
Dead serious. I'm also using some pretty innocent examples. I'm not joking, I read one novel where the sentence was heavily hinting at a certain male gender part and just had *****. Then the translator wrote a note that said "This is what was in the raw too."
Either it's cursing, or the author doing it on purpose for the readers to imagine or just plain intercourse.
Wait there are novels on Qidian right now, that hint to intercourse? Oh my. How scandalous.
Cilliez No, no, no.....well actually yes but qidan does it in a much more.....PG way. I'm talking about going to novelupdates, and just poke around. Generally, it mostly happened in Japanese webnovels, so yeaaaaa
BrokenLake Oh, makes more sense x'D

BrokenLake don't push it all on JP novels though they do have quite a bit, but CN can get pretty R rated in their xianxia.
I've read some things....even here on qidian!!
love how s3x is a big nono but they act like murdering an entire sect is nothing lol
Flaffy I know, but in my experience with novels, the first place I think of when I think of things like very vividly described sex scenes, are usually JP novels. I do admit I have read a few CN that were........very descriptive, but I see a lot of more serious plots and relationship development in CN's. Then again, maybe I'm just reading all the wrong JP novels. :P
