Mute At least they didn't make a "Gift" feature to gift spirit stones to friends. You could essentially get thousands of spirit stones a day.
I've only really got about two things to complain about this time. I'll start off with the smaller one.
I was just looking through the new releases because I like to keep an eye out for the young rising stars among the sea of novels. What really irked me was the weird line up of genres. What does "Romance Fiction" even mean? Were they just too lazy to make a separate category for each? There's also a "Competitive Sports" which kinda makes sense, but the fact that there are so many of that specific genre is slightly worrying to me right now, but I'm expecting that with the flood of novels coming in the future, it'll balance. But, these are just the two that irk me the most. The other genres are just as ridiculous and seriously need revisions. I understand the need to make your website unique and such, but something like genres need some semblance of its precedents. It would be better to keep weird categories such as "War and Military Fiction" or "Eastern Fantasy" as something more like tags. It would be great for the website's coders to take a look at the system NovelUpdates have put in place on their website. It heavily relies on users keeping things in working order, but usually we users aren't jerks and actually keep it in pretty good condition.
Also, side note, but I'm very, VERY open to some....BL content coming onto the site. Am I a part of the rotten women faction....YES. Am I ashamed....NO. I'm not even asking for any....explicit situations. I'd even be fine with just some good fluff. It's just, I want to remind them to keep their options open. Also, would love it if their was just a general increase in fluff novels, that are so sweet teeth rot and fall out.
My second complaint is one I kinda mentioned before. It's about the gigantic flood of just fan fiction after fan fiction. I mean, not that I'm against having an open platform and such, it's just that I don't like how people are almost carelessly starting novels. Open platforms for readers to become the writers are great, it's just I don't think that Webnovel should make that their thing. They are a website to host the novels that translators work to post frequently for good pay. They've a great system for it with a lot of potential to maybe even improve more than I could imagine, but that doesn't mean that they should start looking for content to fill their empty site as they're slowly feeding more novels into the cite. Before Webnovel, I used all kinds of sites to read novels and they were pretty decently sized sites. They had 10 or move novels and all of were great quality with decent release frequency. They translated, cleaned, and posted. Nothing more, nothing less. They survived just fine of of just that alone for years, so a gigantic site with tons of translators like Webnovel honestly doesn't need this extra feature of posting originals. It's a great concept, but looking at it right now, all I can see are fan fiction after fan fiction with a few cliches sprinkled in.
You want to write a novel, great. Go do that on Wattpad or something. Wattpad is literally THE site to go to if you want to write any kind of fan fiction or original content. They even contests in place where you could win money or get your writing promoted. Even the functioning for posting content is better over at Wattpad. I was scrolling through the new novels and there was literally a novel, with an actually interesting title, that had a descriptiong saying "Don't read just checking out format and stuff"....LKJDFIENO!!!! Yes, Webnovel hosts the community of Asian novel readers which might be the audience these reader become writers are aiming for, but Wattpad has that kind of community over there too, amongst dozens of other communities that would expand your audience even further.
I'm tired and bored soooo....
I'm also feeling extra generous today, so for a change of pace I'm not going to complain for once. I'm actually going to compliment the website creators. First off, I'm loving the new free platform idea. A little bit like wattpad, but it's also a little dangerous because wattpad isn't exactly the best place for a good book. There are some good ones, but the bad ones probably outweigh them. I also would like to really complement the free cover thing. That's a brilliant feature for new writers. A little dangerous, again, because sometimes covers don't portray the book very well and that's just a total turnoff for all those reader's book boners out there. I know the phrase, "don't judge a book by it's cover," but let's be honest. We all judge a little bit off of the cover.
I know I said I was complementing, but this crossed my mind during typing this and I couldn't think of any other nice things to say. I'm still disappointed right now in the line up for book choices in the energy stone votings. They seem exactly like poorly written books by people who wanted to make a fanfic, but just settled by making something they call original content. Some have an interesting premise, but the writing itself just disappoints me, so this site is turning more and more into wattpad. I'm really sad about that, and I sincerely hope that they learn how to balance "free platform" and "random clutter stories."
I'm writing this complaint now, because insomnia is a b****h and I can't sleep. So heeere we go.
I'm really made right now about the whole "expiration date" on spirit stones now. I didn't even notice that it was happening, until my spirit stones were mysteriously dropping like nobody's business. It kept dropping and dropping until it is where it is now. Right now, the highest I can maintain it at, with daily check ins, voting, power stones, all that, I can only hover at about 900 or like, 10 more above. I'm just really angry at that. I was thinking when this site started, "Oh, cool. They don't have a system that entirely screws free users and requires payments." But, this development is starting to look down. I can literally see them just doing another nerf like this and making it even harder on free users, easily. The way it's set up right now, I don't really have too much of a problem with it. They've just set it up where you can't get the achievement of having over 1000 spirit stones without buying some. No real problem with that. It's just, they've started down a road that has made me hate so many different companies, games, ect. I think a lot of people share that sentiment too, but I'll just blindly complain on the internet like everyone else for now.
Next thing is the novels. I've noticed that a lot of the novels that they're picking up are.....no offense to fans or anything.....kinda....bad. I mean, don't get me wrong, I do love a good few of the novels on here and think they're great. Some of my absolute favorites are on here now. It's just, so many others are just shallow, underdeveloped stories that really just seem like they're put on the site to fill a spot. No joke, just check some of the novels ratings on Novel Updates. They are subpar most of the time, hanging around at ratings of 3 stars, some even less. I can't stand reading novels that are below 4 stars most of the time because the stories are just so, so.....bad. And, I'm not just spouting BS right now. I do keep up with the newest novels just to keep a look out for any hidden gems, but the line up they have right now is just pitiful. I can't even with most of them.
I don't expect Webnovels to have an endless supply of amazing, groundbreaking novels. I'm just saying that there is meaning to the phrase "Quality over quantity". It's the reason why I loyally follow Gourmet of Another World even though it is well known and agreed upon in the fan community that the updates are really slow. Even so, we all love the novel and understand the translator's need to do things other than translate 24/7. Would the novel be more popular if it updated more, sure. But we, the readers, won't love the novel itself any more or less if it updated more. We stay for the plot, and the quality of the story. Same way for certain sites. I used to follow Moon Bunny Cafe religiously. It's a site that translated most of my favorite novels when I was just starting out and didn't know about NU. Then there is also Misty Cloud Translations or Radiant Translations. I know all these site's names by heart because they choose stories that I personally loved and had good translations. I checked up on them hourly like it was my religion. Later I found NU and found out about all the other novels and translation sites out there, but I still follow those sites and pay attention to whatever novels or announcements they do. That's why I really and truly recommend to get some more quality novels on the site because, the line up now is looking....generic....boring.....and just, in general, low quality in my personal opinion. Doing so makes it kinda hard to expect a lot from new novels and really just brings down the overall quality of the website.
Do remember though, my opinion of low quality could just be me standing alone in the minority. Maybe most of the people who are coming to webnovel are really into these stories, but I'm just speaking from my standpoint of a reader. This has been my long a$$ complaint. I'm tired now, so I'm sleeping. Good Night to All, and to All a Good Night.

This excessively long post is about the rating system, which I find completely wrong. The current rating system takes into account your rating of its: Translation Quality, Updating Stability, Story Development, Character Design, and World Background. Then it takes all of those scores and averages them out.
First off, all of these things, while good to be rated, should not be averaged together to show the entire rating of the novel. I honestly prefer novel update's method of just saying "Here, you get rate this novel on how good YOU think it is overall", rather than this which makes it seem that one aspect of your rating is equal in importance to another. This is terrible! Some of these aspects, while I appreciate knowing about what other readers think of them, shouldn't be included in the overall quality of the novel. When I think overall quality of a novel, rather than caring about updating speed or translation quality, I want to know what the reader would rate this book based on the quality of the story. Things like, "This story is so basic, a a piece of paper has more depth" or "This story is practically my life now and I just sit in the dark waiting for updates." Things like slow updating speed or somewhat broken translations are something I'm totally fine with ignoring if the story is good and should not be considered in the final rating that is the first thing a new reader looks at.
Second off, I don't like the way they phrase some of these aspects. World Background? Character "Design"? Story "Development"? WTF! This is purely just my opinion, but I just hate the way they make you rate a World Background. Sure, a setting is very important to a story and, depending on the genre or plot, needs great description. Other times, it won't matter if you're in the bottom of a can of soup, the story still holds the spotlight and readers won't even care about the background. Story "Development" irks me because what does it MEAN by that? Like, how fast a story is developing or how realistic or fleshed out a story is becoming? Or, does it just mean how much you like the story. Character "Design" also is a reason I hate Story "Development." Why is that different than Story Development? Are characters not considered to be that big part of the story, to the point that it needs a separate rating? They are so deeply connected, that it is fairly rare that a Character Design will differ that much from a Story Development. Why even separate them at that point? It just adds an extra rating that may just skew the final rating. This aspect may be to help out a good story that updates slowly to raise its score so that it is more accurate, but it doesn't exactly fix this inaccurate system that could be solved with just not mixing all these ratings of different aspects together as is they hold the same importance. You could give the story a full 5 stars, but if even one of these aspects gets 1 star, you get a 4.2. If a story is good enough, some readers won't mind waiting years for them! That may just be a me thing, but I truly have stayed with some novels for half a decade, waiting for their daily, weekly, or monthly updates.
My final words on this are, all of these ratings are not bad but they just aren't meant to be mushed together to get the overall rating of a novel. The importance of updating stability is honestly an aspect that should be considered after you have read enough into a book to decide if you like it or not. A crappy novel could update 12 times a day, but the crappy story would be covered up in the overall ratings with a decent enough score in Translating Quality or Updating Stability. This creates a facade of a mediocre story, when really it's a trash story that belongs in a burning pile of garbage. And the same way vice versa. A story could be incredibly good, but updates like once a week and it would bring a score that should be 4-5 stars down to maybe even 3-5 stars. There's nothing wrong with rating these aspects of a story, just that they do not average to the entire rating of the book itself. If we were to ask people to rate webnovel's way, and then ask them to rate the novel itself, the score would be different and a rating system is not supposed to be that way.
P.S. I was editing this later because I noticed some typos that made me cry at myself and every 5-10 seconds, the entire box of writing just shifted on me completely like it would when making a full screen a half screen, only in this scenario it just shifted by like 10 pixels. It moved all the words and made reading through to edit 10 times slower. This probably is just because I'm doing this while making the window for this page only half my screen, but this still is pretty annoying.
Already on my reading list. +1
Looks really good! +1
Been on my reading list on NU for 2 years. Still have hope, so pls +1
+1 I even made a discussion string of my own for this pick up!
This has been a dream novel for years to me. I loved this more than some of the novels that I've kept with since I found out about webnovels. Now, just today, literally within the hour, the translator posted the 100th chapter and DROPPED IT. I'm crying right now a little bit because this novel still has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. SO MUCH. I need this novel in life, please. I will give up 50 of my novels for this one. PLEASE.

“Break his legs! Fail his organs! A fake illness? I’ll make him sick completely!” A man said.
“Yes! But young master. . . what are you doing?” The servant said, confused.
The man finished swallowing a bunch of expired pills and said, “I’m sick, gotta go find my wife for some treatment!”
Webnovel did some kind of updates to the code, because it is f*cking up something. My spirit stones aren't showing anywhere.
GoGo At the same time though, in chinese novels, more often than not they mean to say meridians because that is more closely related to chinese culture. They are similar, but still completely different.
This complaint is pretty personal purely because I'm the type of person who doesn't check her email for a week and misses all the important things. I wish that the notifications from this forum site would also be included in notifications on the main website. I'll look in my inbox on webnovel.com and check everything and be like "Oh, 3 people liked my comments and 2 replies. Cool." Then not even check the forum website where I had 3 people asking me questions that I didn't respond to for, like 2 weeks. I felt really bad and kinda stupid for replying so late. I check the forum more frequently now, but it's just troublesome and to a person like me who forgets A LOT, having all the notifications in one place is just the most convenient thing for me.
I love the idea of clans!!! But I feel like just cultivation methods is not enough. If we are really diversifying here, let me speak for the last picks! Although a lot of people here so read the martial arts novels, there are just as many who read the fluff filled novels. The appeal of clans !ight not even make sense to them. Remember, this forum used to be called the jianghu on the home page, but some people didn't get the reference and it went straight over their heads.
Okay, I know I'm being SUUUPER extra here, but I got this idea in the middle of the night, just when I was about to go to sleep and I just do NOT think I will remember it tomorrow, so here it is.
So I'm sure every Qidian user is well aware of the voting feature they have for new novels. Which ever one on the list has the most votes will be the one to be put of on the website first. Now, the problem I have with this isn't with the functionality (or so I think), but rather with just the options given. In the beginning, it was fine. There were like 10 different options and it gave us some nice hope for future chapters. However, now, I'm seeing only 2 novels. Granted, one just got on and is relatively new, but the other, I'm like 1000 percent sure has been there for at least a month and has like, 50,000 votes. What's up with this? I know that Qidian has some options up in queue because there was a thread that Qidian posted that had the winners of some recommendation contest of which user gave the best recommendations. Some of them sounded genuinely interesting to me, but I was disappointed to see that it was no where in sight on the voting area.
This could just be me being impatient AF, but I want to believe that Qidian is at least able to keep relatively well up to date with there website and is properly maintaining it.
Lastly, and this came up literally as I was writing this, but I noticed that when you keep on scrolling down and reading chapters from one novel, eventually, the page literally just stops like "Oh, I know there are more chapters, but there is already so much on this page, you honestly do NOT need more, you NERD!!!!" I was more slightly annoyed with the website rather than frustrated. Still, I don't like the idea of the page literally just stopping because it just can't contain the sheer amount of WORDS I need to read about Yi Yun or Ning Xi. (True Martial World and Full Marks Hidden Marriage) If I wasn't desperate enough to actually check the chapters full list and properly check to see that there was like, 50 more chapters, I would have just stopped there and not read the rest of those chapters. Never fully completing the binge marathon.
Those daily readers who moderate themselves will never understand the goals and desires of us binge readers. 。:゚(;´∩`;)゚:。

Another post, just because I'm bored and I know that often creators appreciate criticisms because it helps them find out what direction they need to work towards.
Okay, so I know I said before that I thought this website was the easiest novel website I've ever come across, but I do have a problem with the whole scrolling down thing. You see, I do love the quickness of getting to the next new chapter, but I feel like I would appreciate it more if the chapters had some sort of buffer before you go to next one. That way I know that I've reached the end of one chapter and it reminds my brain that, "oh, the chapter is ending." I know this seems pointless, but I swear I have reason.
You see, when I'm zooming through chapters after saving up for a few days, I have all these thoughts and comments that I just never post on the chapter because I'm too eager to get to the next, that I forget to even comment. This seems like a very frequent problem for novels that tend to release double chapters, where the latest one gets all the comments, and then the one before gets maybe, what, like 6? I feel like it's a waste sometimes, because the chapters in all novels often have a great deal to be said about them, but us readers are often too absorbed in reading to even notice. By the time you notice "Oh, there are no more chapters" and realize all the comments you had in previous chapters are just sitting in your head, it's often not worth it for people to go back and search for the exact chapter that had the scene they want to comment on. Plus, if that chapter was one of the unfortunate chapters to be ignored because of double releases, then your comment and effort to find the chapter ends up lost in the sea of comments, making your opinion feel ignored and completely stupid.
I recommend doing the same for the website as you do in your app. I have the app, and I actually really enjoy the feature of it stopping at the bottom, and then having to swipe down again to go to the next chapter. It gives time to process and even make a really good comment sometimes, as well as take the time to see all the other reader's opinions and comments that are sometimes AMAZING and make me love the novel and its community more.
Since I brought the app up already, I might as well go for it since this problem SEVERELY annoys me. The app on my phone is INCREDIBLY inconvenient. The reason being, my main bar, which holds the phone's ability to go to my home screen and the little arrow to send me back to where ever I was previously, OVERLAPS with the Qidian task bar. And since the phone and app recognizes that the phone's main functions take priority, it says, "Oh, you hit the button to show all the chapters? Well sorry, it's UNDER the home screen button, so that's where you're going. That's not what you wanted? TOO BAD." It annoys me to no end. I don't know if this is just my phone, or it's happening a lot and no one has said anything. If it is the former, then please, creators, change the app somehow. I'm not proficient in creating mobile apps, so I don't know if I'm loading you up for 3 months of coding or I'm just asking you to change a couple of parameters, but still this problem makes me want to never open the app. But then I realize I don't have a computer and a new chapter of Hidden Marriage might have release and suck it up.
If it's the latter, let me tell you unsatisfied little silent shut ins a little something about creators. If you don't tell the creators what's wrong, they will often not even know something's wrong. They are relying on us, complaining and whining like the novel hungry b!tches we are to tell the them what's wrong so they can shut us up. They want the quality of this website to be as good a f0cking google or novel updates for the number of novels they plan to take on.
I'm not sure if anyone remembers what we "oldies" called the Qidian incident. Tons of translators were apologizing to their readers because Qidian saw that their little writers were actually making some pretty good stuff that was getting popular and making others lots of money. So they decided to be.....coughshamelesscough......weird cough. Anyway, they saw the "opportunity" for some good business and decided to make translators and editors work under their banner if they wanted to continue translating and posting their novels. Obviously, raged ensued, but after seeing the website have such fast updates and good quality, even having app, we shut the f*ck up. You can even look back on some novels, back in the earlier chapters and see us readers actually saying, "I'm mad that they just decided to pop up and claim this now, but since they're doing such a great job, I guess I'm okay with this."
Obviously, they do need to make this website the most convenient to use since they are trying to satisfy us nerds who don't have lives and read all day. So voice your complaints, join my "bandwagon" of complaining if it makes you feel more comfortable. Just know that your complaints on this website aren't just things you "put up" with, or "tolerate." They are things the creators need to fix for YOU, the "customer" if you will. That is why I write these crazy long complaints, even though I knew that not many people will even care for them much.
ANYWAY, I hope the creators of Qidian finds this thread and appreciates all the complainers that do decide to come here! :D
Flaffy I know, but in my experience with novels, the first place I think of when I think of things like very vividly described sex scenes, are usually JP novels. I do admit I have read a few CN that were........very descriptive, but I see a lot of more serious plots and relationship development in CN's. Then again, maybe I'm just reading all the wrong JP novels. :P
